Creamery SPORTS i The Vikings 1948 football season can best be termed exceptional with a closing record of 5 wins and 2 losses. Our veteran, Kjorness, was by far the scoring threat of the team, and he was well backed up by the stars, G. DeSutter, V. Brewers, R. DeSutter, A. Josephsdm, E. McMillln, C. Friend, and the other of the eighteen boys out for foot- fall. °ur season opened with a game with Lvanhoe, here at Minneota. This was our loss, and by defeating us, ivanhoe set a new state record for the most consecutive wins. We then journeyed to Hendricks for what proved to be a snap game, with Minneota on the winning aide all the way. A non-conference game with Boyd followed and then a game with Walnut Grove, both of which were won by good margins. Gur homecoming game with Ruthton was next. This game also was very one-sided with Einneota always able to retain a good lead. Then came our bad night at Lake Benton. The night was cold and rainy and that interfered with our play. xt was a real thriller though, and Lake Benton won when, in the final second of play, a long run was made for a touchdown. Our final game of the season was with Tyler, and this game was won by the sub- stantial margin which we had grown accustomed to during the season. Opponents Ivanhoe we TS T? At the for- ward position we had letterman Friend and our new boy from Minneap- olis Central, Roberg, with McMillln and Fier as their substitutes. At center we had 6 ft. 8 in. Gislason who, by the way, broke the school's one game scoring record with 35 points in the second Cottonwood game. Josephson was his substitute. At guard was veteran D. Hjorness with DeSutter as his partner and Hanson and Johnson substituting.
