This year's broomball season got off to a slow start because of lack of snow, and unseasonably high temperatures. Once the rink was sufficiently iced the season was in full swing, giving everyone a chance to play. The official Minnehaha Broomball Tournament started in the first week of February and culminated with the championship on the Friday of Sno-Daze week. The tournament was open to anyone that could field a team of five girls and five Jx)ys. This year, as in years past, there was a good response and many creative names. Names such as Mojo Rising, Nasal Passage, Phanatix, and The Child Psychologists were typical of the creativity and variety.

The traditional Powderpuff soccer game between the Junior girls and the Senior women was accompanied by a Powderpuff flag football game on the cold afternoon of November 11th, 1980. To complete the reversal of roles, the cheerleaders were seniors Mark Aamot, Troy Nelson, Lowell Berg-gren, and Steve Hatle, and juniors Tom Schmidt, Dave Olson, Dave Odde, Kenny Larson, Tim Getchell, Dave Jones, Tim Bearden and Mike Boehm. The soccer game was first in line and juniors Kathy Swenson and Cindy Anderson led the Junior girls to their 3-0 victory over the Senior women, coached by Paul Noter-man. Pete Ostenby and Tom Eng-strom were the junior coaches. The tide turned, though, when the flag-football game started. Seniors Karen Berg and Lisa Dahlberg each scored a touchdown, making the final score 12-0. Tim Held and Rob Holland were the winning coaches and Craig Aycock and Mike Murphy coached the junior girls. 29
