Energy - a definitely abundant commodity in any high school, ours being no exception Fast-paced, unbelievably busy, never-ending activity - these are the words that describe a typical high-school student. Each of us is given the need for activity, the desire to accomplish and be doing something, yet we ail burn off this energy in different ways. Our coaches here at Minnehaha are grateful that athletics are one way we expend our energy. Approximately one third of our students go out for a sport for at least one of the three seasons Only an athlete can describe the feeling of emotional and physical release when the mind and body have been extended to their full capacity Athletics are a great way of letting off tension and excess energy. Sports fans share in this release by cheering and getting involved in the game Music is another channel for the energy of Academians. Sixty per cent of our studetns are involved in either choir, band, or orchestra. Active use of musical talent not only benefits us all when we listen to it, but learning and executing a challenging piece of music gives one a feeling of accomplishment We all release energy in much less structured w-ays. These include hobbies, jobs, various clubs and activities, even school work. Life would be very difficult if we couldn't release our energies with occasional screams, torrents of tears, or fits of laughing. How many of us have never had the urge to just run somewhere or hit a pillow ' We may not understand where all our energy comes from, but we all have to get rid of it some way. The different ways we do make us the individuals we are and provide the diversity that makes life so interesting. 2 ■I 5 ---STUDENT LIFE Expending energy by cheering at a football game, sharing free time with friends, of studying in the Learning Center - all are a part of student life at Minnehaha. With the hectic schedule of a high school student. it's no wonder that we sometimes feel all our energies have been spent. Homecoming Coronation is the stuff dreams are made of - tuxedos and long dresses, walking arm in arm, the applause of the crowd, and the nerve-racking excitement. The coronation came off traditionally, with last year's royalty on hand to crown this year's king and queen. Angel Mordh, reigning queen, paced back and forth between the candidates, looking for the right guy. Back she ran to the envelope,” just to make sure. Then, with a mischievous smile and a twinkle in her eye, she crowned Mark Aamot king. Choosing a queen took just as long, and was just as suspenseful. Dave Hughey, King Mark's predecessor. took as long as he dared. The tension was high and the joy equally great when he finally lighted on Lisa Erickson. King Mark and Queen Lisa took their honored place up front, and the dream was complete. ‘I The typical scene of a family watching television was the basis of the 1980 Homecoming program, We're Still the One. Parodies of television programs past and present made up the various skits, which were all performed by the junior class. Scenes from Leave it to Beaver, The Munsters, Search For The Guiding Light as the World Turns Around General Hospital, The Price is Right, and Batman and Robin graced the stage. Well known commercials, each humorously interpreted, added interest between scenes. It was obvious that a lot of work was put into the program, from the beginning stages of planning and writing, to the long hours of practice and finding props and costumes. All the hard work was rewarded that Friday night when the junior class showed their spirit and gave themselves an identity as a class. hi II Homecoming Saturday started with the Minnehaha volleyball team moving to a quick win over the Brooklyn Center Centaurs in two games. 18-0 and 18-12. This winning way continued that afternoon with the soccer team coming back to tie the game in the second period and eventually triumphing over Shattuck in overtime by a score of 2-1. The afternoon continued when the M.A. football team took the field against the Buffalo Bison. Though a tough game was played by both sides, the Bison overpowered the Indians by a score of 25-0. n To start the year off right the students presented our first convocation, the theme being How I Experienced God this Summer. The convocation included many personal testimonies and a group sing. Our new chaplain, Rev. Paul Johnson, introduced himself and gave us a message from God's Word. Music was a big part of our convocations, not only did we have such guests as Nehemiah and Barry McGuire, but our own gifted students shared their talents by participating in the Singers, Concert Band, or other choirs and bands. This year's Spiritual Life Week featured Dr. Don Klingberg, a clinical psychologist from Connecticut. Dr Klingberg spoke on the topic of suffering and how we can deal with it. u 15 H SPIRITUAL LIFE COMMITTEE ADVENTURERS' CLUB Spiritual Life Committee is another activity open to students of all ages. Their main objective is to plan all school convocations. The group is led by Chaplain Paul Johnson, who encourages the students to participate in the convocations. The Adventurers Club is a club for all those of adventurous spirit. This year the club had to cancel several trips this fall because of the lack of interest, but enthusiasm picked up during the winter and spring. Activities include: winter camping, rock climbing, and exploring the BWCA by canoe. VENTURERS' CLUB: Advisor Paul Swanson. Wayne Holmberg, |im Erickson, Ken Holaday, Jim Erickson, Debby Fondell. Beth Howell, Sarah Swanson, and Kurt Rosselit NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY IH The National Honor Society this year continued many of the traditional NHS projects. Supporting a Laotian child, selling carnations at Valentines Day, and, of course, running the bookstore. The group also started something new. The NHS News bulletin board. The object vas to publicize some of the less icknowledged activities at school. Topics ranged from the fall play, ).B., to )r. High boys' basketball to background on the Laotian boy. With the announcement of new initiates, the membership jumped from twelve to sixty-eight. These new seniors and juniors were officially inducted at the NHS convocation at Bethlehem Convenant ( hurrh in Aoril. i An active German Club started off the year with a successful Okto-berfest lnitiation dinner. New students survived such tortures as flour in the face and newspaper baton fights to become official Deutsche Klub members. An evening ins Kino was the next activity for the enthusiastic Germans. They munched popcorn while watching the film Here Comes Mr. Jordan. December 5 was the date for the annual St. Nikolas Party where gifts were exchanged, monsters created, and German Christmas songs sung. An indoor soccer game, a Fasch-ingsball with folk-gaming and a spring picnic were also part of the year's activities. This year's German Day was held on March 17th. The senior German students presented a special convocation and then all the students proceeded to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater for lunch and to present their skits. 20 This year a new language club joined the ranks in our international soccer tournament. The Swedes proved their expertise by defeating not only the Spaniards and the French, but also the consistently strong Germans. December 12 marked the Santa Lucia celebration at school. Honored with the Lucia crown this year was Lisa Skoglund. Her attendants were Beth Wilson, Ann johnson, Darlyce Jones, and Jean Johnson. Activities were always exciting ranging from Lucia to the movie Heaven Can Wait . Several of the students are planning a trip to Sweden in the summer of 1981, guided by Fru Frank. 21 Like Madame Jonannessen says, On mange bien en France et en 307. The French Club membership grew from past years, more than likely because of the good food. It seems as if the French language student activities always involve food. In the fall the French Club ran the concession stand during sports events. They took a special trip to L'Hotel de France for breakfast. March third was French day and Mardi Gras. French students beat the German students in the language soccer tournament. Ce qui est bon, est francais! (Whatever is good is French). 22 Hola Amigos! Spanish club has changed from past years because of the new leadership of Mrs. Coronado. She has given the club several new ideas. On Christmas, the Spanish students went caroling in homes of Spanish speaking families. They broke the traditional pTnatas. The students wrote letters to sick people in hospitals. The class helped out the Cuban refugees with clothing, food and taking the time to talk with them because they mostly speak Spanish. In March they had a Spanish program. ADIOS-HASTA LA VISTA. 21 24 November 7 and 8 climaxed two months of hard work when the twenty-plus people involved in J.B. performed it for hundreds of parents, students, alumni, and friends of Minnehaha. J.B. was, in a sense, an introduction for M.A - it not only introduced many new people to our stage and a new director. Miss Tracey Gilmore, but it also introduced a new look at the book of Job. One of the most memorable things about J.B. was the unity the cast felt working together to present a play with such an exciting message. They felt J.B. was worth coming to not only for its value as a play but because of the spiritual message it had for its audience. The story of Job will long remain in the cast members' minds as well as: Bunners!... the Christmas party .. . Did I hear someone say Ponds?”... prayer meetings in the chapel ... making people old”... never being home ... the un-party ... meeting Peter ... doing relaxing exercises ... painting the set -sponge!. .. finding props - who will bring a turkey dinner?”... the round table ... convocation .. . way down south in Alabam. I mean south in Birmingham, there's a place where people go ...” 25 BROOMBALL 2b This year's broomball season got off to a slow start because of lack of snow, and unseasonably high temperatures. Once the rink was sufficiently iced the season was in full swing, giving everyone a chance to play. The official Minnehaha Broomball Tournament started in the first week of February and culminated with the championship on the Friday of Sno-Daze week. The tournament was open to anyone that could field a team of five girls and five Jx)ys. This year, as in years past, there was a good response and many creative names. Names such as Mojo Rising, Nasal Passage, Phanatix, and The Child Psychologists were typical of the creativity and variety. 28 The traditional Powderpuff soccer game between the Junior girls and the Senior women was accompanied by a Powderpuff flag football game on the cold afternoon of November 11th, 1980. To complete the reversal of roles, the cheerleaders were seniors Mark Aamot, Troy Nelson, Lowell Berg-gren, and Steve Hatle, and juniors Tom Schmidt, Dave Olson, Dave Odde, Kenny Larson, Tim Getchell, Dave Jones, Tim Bearden and Mike Boehm. The soccer game was first in line and juniors Kathy Swenson and Cindy Anderson led the Junior girls to their 3-0 victory over the Senior women, coached by Paul Noter-man. Pete Ostenby and Tom Eng-strom were the junior coaches. The tide turned, though, when the flag-football game started. Seniors Karen Berg and Lisa Dahlberg each scored a touchdown, making the final score 12-0. Tim Held and Rob Holland were the winning coaches and Craig Aycock and Mike Murphy coached the junior girls. 29 PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB This year the Photography Club was more active than it has been in recent years. The membership had always been relatively low, but this year showed at least a promising increase. Although our numbers are few, our burdens are great. The members of the Photography Club must supply photographs for the Quiver, The Arrow, and, our major responsibility, the Antler. Few people realize how important photos are to any publication. They provide us with entertainment, and they help us to remember things that might otherwise be forgotten. And, with a little luck, they can tell a story better than the most finely wrought sentences. There are a whole slew of people who have contributed their works in hopes that they might be published. These people vary in their degrees of skill and contribution. Some shoot quite regularly, and others contribute only seldom. But everything that we receive is considered for publication. The photographer's life is a hard one. We are constantly being sent hither and tither by our superiors to get some type of photo that was needed yesterday and forgotten about. When a picture doesn't turn out we are chastised and scowled at. When nobody can make it to a particular event that needs to be shot, we are made to feel as if we are personally responsible for all that has ever gone wrong in the world. Photographers are thought of as incompetent and dizzy. But we just let people think their little thoughts. We know better. To know a photographer is to love one. w PUBLICA- TIONS The Publications Class is the public relations arm of the student body. Producing the Antler, the Quiver, and the Spirit kept the staff busy, as one deadline followed another. Throughout all the hard work, the class managed to have some fun. Memories include: going to H. Larson during school .. .“Who is this person? ... grace under pressure .. .“It's nice to have skills ... crackling airwaves .. .“It's not my baby ... TYPE!... working in “the Pit ... style sheets ... Bunners ... beat reports ... fuzzies and squig-glies ... erasing quadpacks ... Saturday sessions ... Getting to the Post Office two minutes before it closed ... missing classes to get our deadlines met... our “friendly friends at Merit ... late nights and early mornings ... lost stories and late ones too ... typewriter attacks ... the warm Pub room ... five minutes for dinner ... Rob Hoi-land, Jim Allen 31 SADIE HAWKINS M.A.'s junior and senior girls had the opportunity to grab their partners and bring them to the annual Sadie Hawkins dance, December 6. Seventy couples attended the event which was planned by the senior class. There was no excuse for just sitting around at this year's Sadie. The two hours were barely enough time to visit all the booths and participate in all the activities. The police force took their job very seriously, throwing any guy foolish enough to let go of their girl's hand into jail immediately. Activities included: a dart throw, blind-folded cookie decorating, shaving a balloon, sponge throw, squirt gun shaving, a cake walk, the licorice kiss, and, of course, the ole Hitchin' Post. When the couples weren't busy at the booths they were probably getting their picture taken, or dancin' up a storm. The evening almost ended in disaster for those who had entrusted their Facing Your Future egg-babies to the egg-sitting booth. A group of masked bandits, calling themselves the Poachers kidnapped all the babies at gunpoint. A ransome of 25 t was required to free the children. Fortunately, all the children made it safely back to their parents, and the night ended in success. 32 33 SKI CLUB The Ski Club continued in it's tradition of providing a way for M.A. students to ski for a reduced price. The group made trips to Afton Alps, Welch Village, and other ski resorts in the metro area. Almost every Friday ski club members would bring their skis and load everything onto the buses for a night of fun. The club provided a unique way for students to get to know one another outside of school. 34 !: y SKI RACING TEAM This was the second season of the Minnehaha Academy Ski Racing Team. It was started last winter with just a few members, and has grown this year to about four times it's original size. Part of the reason for this growth was last year no girls participated, while this season several girls showed interest and joined the team. Captain Tim Frantzich was the only member to progress to state competition. The team was coached by Peter Huber. We hope he will return next year to lead this enthusiastic group of young racers. 35 This year the Sno Daze tradition was once again set rolling. Sponsored by the senior class, tne event was a great success. Festivities started the second of February with the broomball tournament. Anyone could form his own team composed of, at most, five guys and five girls. Competition lasted for two weeks, with the championship game played on February 13, between Uncle Eric's Chicago Shieks, led by Paul Haglund and the Fantastics, led by Dave Ouisdigian. The Chicago Shieks won, with a score of 1-0 in overtime. February 9-13 was spirit week at M.A. Twin day, kid-stuff day, uniform day, dress-up day, and, the traditional red and white day were followed with sno-cones, cotton candy, and carmel corn and hot Chocolate sold after school. On Thursday night the Senior class presented the program, The Plight of Sno White, complete with a wicked stepmother, a house full of dwarves (who acted like teachers), and a handsome prince. The characters didn't always follow the traditional story, however. The Queen, instead of handing Sno White a poisoned apple, produced a banana. The narrator wasn't typical either. He needed a director to keep him on the right story, and when the prince didn't appear, he had to step in so Sno White wouldn't be buried alive. )7 SPEECH ACTIVITIES COMPUTER CLUB Speech Activities, a newly formed club for seventh through twelfth graders, and advised by Miss Tracey Gilmore, sought to revive interest in debate and individual speaking competition at Minnehaha. Members of Speech Activities were not competing in debate this season, but hope to attend a debate seminar this summer so they will be experienced and ready to compete next year. Although the club did not participate in debate this season, they did attend some tournaments and entered many contestants in individual speaking events. January 10 started the Speech season with a tournament at St. Olaf College. It was a very encouraging start because after entering only four contestants, one returned with a second place trophy in Humorous Interpretation. The Computer Club took on the task of informing the student body of computer technology this year. Inviting students to participate in computer games and to learn elementary programming was the main function of the club, but activities also included helping at the Junior-Senior Halloween Party and taking pictures with Santa. Membership is sure to grow with the introduction of low-cost computers for the home, and increasing awareness of the importance of computers in today's society. SPEECH ACTIVITIES: (Left to Right) Sharon lohnson, Cynthia Slater. Lisa Erickson, lanell Colley, Jane Lodien, Joy Roseland. Sue Wyatt. John Wiberg J8 SOUND AND LIGHT AUDIO-VISUAL DEPARTMENTS A vital but sometimes unnoticed segment of Minnehaha is the Audio-Visual Department. Coordinated by Mr. Wendall Carlson, the group kept us supplied with televisions, tape recorders, record players, and all kinds of other equipment. Pictured from left to right are: Kurt Rosselit, Peter Roufs, )ohn Vessey, and Mr. Wendall Carlson. The Sound and Light Crew is a group of unique individuals put together by Mr. Gregg Olson, a former student of M.A. The crew's responsibilities include setting up and running stage lights and sound for convos, plays, musicals and other performances that are held in the gym. Most of the work is done after school and many early Saturday mornings. There is also frequent late night work involved when setting up for a major performance. The crew members are as follows: Ken Holaday, Dan Cummings, Eric Stanley, Ethan Stanley, Tom Matson, Dave Clark. w 40 SENIORS As seniors we sometimes don't want to graduate and leave the security of our high school years behind. We wonder if all the work done in the past years has prepared us for college. But we don't let these worries get us too depressed, we do our best to make this last year our best. 43 Senior Summaries Mark Aamot — Student Body President, Soccer, Spiritual Life Committee, Student Council President, Singers John Aldrich — Basketball Captain, Track, Band Jim Allen — Head Photographer for the Antler, Quiver Staff, Broomball, Homecoming 79 Jill Ambler — Girl's Tennis Captain, Homecoming 79, Trip to France Claudia Amey — Girl's Soccer, Orchestra, Singers, French Club, Chess Club, The Sound of Music, Brigadoon Carol Anderson — Homecoming 79, Singers, German Club, Cheerleading, Powderpuff, Homecoming Royalty, The Sound of Music Peter Anderson — Football, Ski Team, Singers' President Vance Baarda — N.H.S., Concert Band, Orchestra, Sound of Music, Brigadoon, Ski Club, Tennis, German Club, Homecoming Rick Barnhart Brenda Bartz — Concert Band, Varsity Band, Spanish Club, Computer Club, Pop Concerts Matt Belval — Football, Baseball, Singers, German Club John Benson — Soccer, Wrestling Karen Berg — Spanish Club, Homecoming 79 Lowell Berggren — Soccer, German Club, Band, Student Council Martha Bergstrom — Concert Band, Varsity Band, French Club Sandy Bloom Karen Berg 44 Claudia Amey Carol Anderson Matt Belval John Benson Martha Bergstrom Jim Allen |ill Ambler Rick Barnhart Brenda Bartz 45 Sandy Bloom Cheryl Bobedyk Tom Boehm — Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Tennis, German Club, Homecoming 79, Broomball Steve Bowman — Soccer, Concert Band, Stage Band Karin Brown — Spanish Club, Antler Staff, Quiver Staff, B-Squad Cheerleading Chris Bullard — Baseball, Singers, Ski Club, Ski Racing, Adventurer's Club Laura Butz — Orchestra, Homecoming 79, Track, Cross-Country Ski Club Carmen Carlson Gwen Carlson — Ski Club, Spanish Club, Girl's Soccer, Girl's Basketball, Broomball, • Homecoming 79, Spiritual Life Comm., Powderpuff, Indoor Soccer Lisa Dahlberg — Homecoming Royalty, N.H.S., Girl's Soccer. It's not just a way to get rid of excess energy, but you can feel the air grow tense with excitement as you watch a wrestler work himself out of a tight position, or watch the last minute of a basketball game when you're down by two points. 65 SOCCER Super Soccer Finishes Second 66 SOCCER VARSITY Front Row) john Benson. Paul set a new school record and led the team with 17 assists. Coach Kauls called it a terrific season . The varsity reserve soccer team proved to be a dominant force as it played to a 7-0 conference record. Coach Josef Eder's team allowed only 4 goals the entire season while scoring 45 goals against its opponents. This brought the team record to 9-1, the lone loss being to Marshall-U's varsity team. Season highlights included two 9-0 shutouts, one against Duluth-Central and the other over SPA. Team high-scorer was Scott Brownlee, with captain Dave Odde also making an outstanding contribution. Another successful Minnehaha soccer season came to an end on October 21st, as Washburn defeated the varsity team 3-0 in the second round of regional play. The team finished with an overall record of 14 wins, five losses, and one tie. In conference play, they finished one game behind first place Benilde-St. Margaret's. Head coach Guido Kauls attributes much of the team's success to the defensive play of juniors Don DuBois, Tom Schmidt, Peter Ostenby, and Dave Jones, who allowed less than one goal per game. After losing to a strong Lincoln team at their first meet, the men quickly redeemed themselves at the Minnehaha Invitational Tournament by taking first place. After a slow start before Christmas, they picked up the pace and finished the season with a winning record overall. The team relied heavily on returning letter winners including cocaptains Mark Erickson and Chris Sletten, Don DuBois, and Kevin Slater. Injuries once again plagued the grapplers. Dave Erickson was out with a broken leg from a football injury, and Don DuBois missed the first part of the season with a broken knuckle. As the hockey team wound up their non-conference play they were only able to boast a 3-4-1 record. Captain Jim Rhoades, however, remains optimistic; we started off sluggish, but now we are starting to put it together. )im feels, as do the rest of the team, that if they play their best hockey all the time, they should have a good shot at winning the Tri-Metro Conference championship. In many cases they did just that. Their advisor. Sue Morgan, gave the girls talks on accepting people just for what they really are and on learning to love each other more. Through these talks the girls decided to do a convocation which had the following theme: Don't be critical, just accept. Through these activities the girls learned to work as a team and to grow together, age making no difference. The squads were divided into Soccer-Hockey and Football-Basketball. They never stop. As they get older, teachers and coaches try to channel that energy into studies and practices. With time they seem to mellow some, but all underclassmen, not just the junior high, bring M.A. to life each day. 103 ! Scott Brownlee Vice Pres. Tim Getchell Proving that it is the quality, not the quantity of students which make activities full of school spirit, the class of '82 proved to be a promising group of seniors. Under pressure the juniors performed well as a class and even better as individuals. This past year the junior class showed great class spirit by being rowdy at sporting events, and proved they were sociable by enjoying themselves at Homecoming and j.S. Making it through Jim Erickson's class also proved that the juniors were academically inclined. In all, the juniors showed a great amount of unity, and will serve the school well as the senior class of '82. Duluth ... Deep Freeze ... Another one bites the dust ... Robert Wilson Lisa Zell CLASS OFFICERS: Pres. Jaimie Chesser. Vice Pres. Jeanne Rikkers A students' sophomore year has always been a year when they begin to grow apart from the group. It is probably the toughest transition year in a young persons' high school life. There are many new responsibilities to take on. Everybody expects more than the year before. Plenty of mistakes are made but after you are through you feel much has been accomplished and you are on your way. A sophomore knows why his name means wise fool. The sophomore year is a fun one, with many exciting activities. It is the year for class ring orders, passing your driver's test, making cheerleading, and preparing to make a run for next year's varsity team. The sophomore year is the turning point of high school life, the year you finally turn the corner and begin to look ahead to a promising future. 123 Geoff Allers Val Anderson Karen Anderson Philip Anderson Wavne Anderson Kim Aamot John Arndt Kurt Arvidson Doug Arvold Robert Bakke Charis Barks Maren Batalden Peter Beckman Kjersti Benson 124 John Brandon Tonv Brown Sarah Bullard Weesa Burke Christi Cardenas Lisa Carlson Terry Carr Kiel Christianson Jackson Davies Kirsten Davis 125 Andy Dosser Laurie Dutton Peter Dynduik lohn Engstrom Gail Erickson Mike Fernandez Mimi Hainlen Tiffany Finnamore Stewart Hansen Brad Hanson Paul Hand Peter Halvorson Jon Fuglestad Peter Fuglestad Katherine Gamble I Mary Gilbertson 126 Bryan Hanson lames Harrison David Hellickson Tara Hill Greg Hjelmstad Phil Holmes Joel Johnson Steve Johnson Christopher lorgenson Heather Keena Jill Klosterman Kristen Krentz Tom Kelby Sarah Koelz Steve Krahn Martha Kuhlmann 127 Marc Larson Melanie Levy Becky Lindmark Sam Long CassieLund Cynthia Lundberg Randal Lundborg James Madsen Sally Magnuson Sandi Malmsten Stephen Martin Tim Matson Kevin Mattson 128 Dawn McClelland Mary Mertens Steve Meyer Adora Michels Sheree Miller v Kelly Mortenson Mary Minks Christine Moe Michele Morton Andres Nelson Kara Morris Henrik Nordstrom jay Olson Kristin Parsch Adam Nyenhuis Beth Olfelt John Parod Shelley Olson Lisa Pavlicek 129 Kirsten Pederson Greg Peterson Janet Rindels Kari Rosselit Mathew Roy Annette Ryks Stephen Shoquist Valerie Sjovall Kevin Slater Kim Sawatsky Richard Schelekamp Laurie Schlossberg Jeff Schmitz Aaron Seymour Ardeth Seymour 130 Shana Smith Being a freshman at the Academy is always a challenge, first because at most places you are still considered a jr. higher but at the Academy you are in senior high. Freshmen are caught in the middle, they sometimes want to run around and act squirrely and sometimes they want to act grown-up This year's freshman class was no different. They did crazy things like T I’ ing IxJt they also are sincere and support the school with all their energy. As a freshman you are carving your niche deeper in the workings of the school. You are in junior varsity sports, you have your first Sadie and you gradually have more say in what happens at school. During your freshman year you grow physically, emotionally and spiritually. You are no longer the youngest and yet you are still young enough to get away with a lot. This is an unique situation as many of this year's eighth graders found out. You already know the routine of jr. High so you feel more comfortable and willing to get involved in the school. Life is exciting with parties to go to and fun things to do with your friends. This year's eighth graders discovered these advantages and made full use of them. They did a lot of squirrely things that made them a unique bunch of kids, but they also showed a lot of spirit at athletic events and in general support of the school's activities. This class of 1985 has a lot of growing to do, but it has a good foundation and a lot of spirit with which to do it. That is how most seventh graders feel on their first days of school. Everybody looks like they feel so at home and you feel out of place. As the year goes on it becomes more fun. There are rollerskating parties, bike-hikes, and the canoe trip. Through all of these activities you get to know more people and you learn how to get along and accept people for who they really are. Being a seventh grader you realized you were the future of the school with five years ahead, to become better acquainted with each other and the various aspects of the school. MINNESOTA 55406 Office of the President • ( 12 729-8321 June 1981 Dear Graduate: Congratulations to you upon the successful completion of your high school experience. This is an exciting moment in your life. Although you will observe other moments of high meaning, none will be quite like this one. For some of you this marks the end of six years at Minnehaha, for others a lesser time, but for all of you we hope it has been a rich and varied experience. What you experienced here will probably not come into real or sharp focus until you are away from Minnehaha. 1 hope certain lessons have been learned here. I hope you have learned the importance of doing your best. I hope you have learned good study habits. I hope, above all, you have learned to know the truth - and have come to personal knowledge of the one who said, I am the way, the truth and the light. - Jesus Christ. As you take your place among Minnehaha's growing number of alumni, over 5,000, we invite you to support your school through your prayers, and as you are able, your gifts. If you have benefited from this school, why not help make it possible for someone else to also so benefit. With the training you have received you can confidently go on to the next experience - college, vocational school, or a career. As you go we wish you well. May your life be satisfying, your goals stretch you, and your faith sustain you. God bless you and thank you for being a part of Minnehaha's family. Sincerely, Craig W.
