I do not shrink from this responsibility, .1 welcome it. “The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it, and the glow from that fire can truly light the world.” “With good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God’s work must truly be our own. During the Fall of '76, the public was bombarded with news of the upcoming election. Following the nominations made at the spirited national conventions in New York and Kansas City, the nominees, namely Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter, continued their vigorous campaigning. Debates were held for the first lime since the Nixon-Kcnnedy debates of 1960 to help enlighten the public. On November 3rd, a record number of voters went to the polls to cast their votes. By a narrow margin, Jimmy Carter was elected to the highest office in the country and on January 20th, took the oath of office as the 39th President of the United States. Walter Mondale, former Minnesota senator, became vice-president. 6 7 8 Friends . . . 10 The physical appearance of the school took on a whole new look this year. 47th Avenue was closed and the track was enlarged. A new parking lot appeared on the east end of the school and the second floor and basement of the gym were remodeled into new locker rooms. But best of all. the long — awaited fine arts addition was begun, including a renovation of the gym for alternative use as an auditorium. 11 And A Lot Of Fun! 12 14 Our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks. Our first performance, in which all the groups participated, was Schubert's Mass in C, with Student soloists, string ensemble and a cadenza for K-flat tenor jackhammer. Shortly thereafter the Singers (sans jackhammer) performed at the Reformation Day Rally at the First Christian Reformed Church of Edina. This year’s Christmas Concert was given at First Covenant Church in Minneapolis. The Treble Ensemble, Mixed Choir. Singers and Orchestra again combined to make it a truly memorable event. On the program were portions of Handel's Messiah and Christmas carols. The annual Seven Last Words Concert and the Singers’ traditional appearance at graduation rounded out the season. 97 CONCERT FIRST ROW: Mirl Aldrich, Tim Wcrlrmi, Jan llildrbrandt. Pam Temple. A hearty thanks is therefore sincerely expressed to those teachers and students who have so willingly done what they could to assist in compiling this year’s Antler, as it has meant so much to those directly concerned. We hope not only that this book will serve to bring back happy memories to former students, but that it also may picture in some way the school life and the spirit at Minnehaha Academy to those who arc interested in it and who have willingly done what they could that such an institution might exist.
