For some that I know, anxiety is simply facing the fact of a next day. Not for me. Living with young people, as I do, washes away the fearful ferment that breeds anxiety. Jesus shut up some antagonists of youth with his “Let them come to me ’ and “Don't gel in their way as they come. In the companionship of Christ, the choosing of an identity, a morality, an education and a career removes the tensions of a “Mr-Facing-Both-Ways. The beauty of the season, the good fellowship aboard, and the tasty chicken dinner that was served made this a successful and exciting event. 8 9 10 Using student and faculty talent. Paula Peterson and Heidi Larson planned a Homecoming program that was filled with delight. It began with the presentation of the Homecoming royalty and their parents. This was followed by a series of short skits and songs on the “Show-boat theme. Realistic props, costumes, and backdrops contributed a great deal to the effect. Following the coronation. there was a reception for everyone in the Campus Room. In spite of unfavorable weather, a great number of students. faculty, and alumni came to cheer the Minnehaha teams in their Homecoming events. A chapel service started the day's program. The girls’ volleyball game with Brooklyn Center followed. Later, the soccer team shut out Benilde 3-0 in an exciting game. A suspenseful football game against Brooklyn Center, which we won by six points, marked the afternoon festivities. A cross country match was held during half-time. 11 Cathy Salovich Judy Larson Barb Hnglcbrckt Dave Berg Nate Grout Steve Swanson 12 13 14 15 I believe in the sun even when it is not shining I believe in love even w hen I am alone I believe in God even when He is silent. .. . The main event of the year for the bands and orchestra was the Pop Concert. They have also played at convocations. In addition to these, the Concert Band has appeared at Homecoming, the Minnehaha Fellowship banquet, various churches, the Ridgedale Shopping Center, and in Owa-tonna, as part of an Artists Series sponsored by churches of that area. These organizations have greatly contributed to the atmosphere of our school and represented it well. 67 “Civil War” audience “Civil War Days” Historical Series Part II 68 surrenders willingly The Conoerl Band, the Varsity Band, the Orchestra. the Dixieland Band, and a mixed quartet all under Mr. Hepburn's direction presented a stirring program of Civil War music at this year’s annual Pop Concert. The presentation of Lincoln Portrait was enhanced by Tim Wright's portrayal of Abraham Lincoln. All instrumental groups joined together to play Stars and Stripes. making this a spectacular number. The program also featured special arrangements by the Orchestra and some lively songs done by the Varsity Band. Toe-tapping time came whcn Dixieland Jamboree was heard. Tom Bernier’s performance on the drums wasan exciting asset. This thrilling concert was representative of Mr. Hepburn's motto: Self Control + Talent = Good Music. 69 The Matchmaker .......... by Thornton Wilder Minnehaha Academy Society of Theater Arts 70 MASTA Paul Rydcll. Using realistic props and elaborate costumes and applying much hard work, the cast presented a play that was well received by the audience. Rehearsals for another play. Charley's Aunt, were just beginning as the Antler went to press. This play, a part of Project Search, used an albstudenl cast. Both plays were under the direction of Mr. Gerald Nordstrom. 71 Mr. Harry P. Opel, choral director at Minnehaha Academy for over a quarter of a century, was selected by the faculty as their nominee for Teacher of the Year. In choosing him. they have said that Mr. Opel portrays those attitudes and traits which best represent the ideal instructor at Minnehaha Academy. Willing to forego a career filled with promise of personal fame, he has devoted his life to enriching the lives of young people through good music, because he believed that was what God wanted him to do. MM Administration has President Wilbur C. Wcstcrdahl Mrs. Linda White “Knowledge does not comprise all which is contained in the large term of education. The feelings are to be disciplined: the passions are to be restrained; a profound religious feeling is to be instilled. and pure morality inculcated under all circumstances. All this is comprised in education.” Daniel Webster 74 faith for the future . . Congratulations to the members of the class of 1975! It is our prayer that you leave our school with a keen awareness of the beauty of Christ, with a deep commitment to His Person, and with a sure confidence and FAITH IN THE FUTURE as you serve Him these coming years. Let us develop the resources of our land, call forth its power, build up its institution, promote all of its great interests and see whether we also in our day and generation may not perform something worthy to be remembered.” — Daniel Webster Arlene E. Perhaps you're thinking we appear to be a traditional school with staid and classical standards, drawing lengthy lectures from ivy-covered text-books and requiring all undergraduate history majors to write with plumed fountain pens. Actually we were founded in a cucumber patch by a band of dissident Swedes, who were fed up with the establishment in the old country and opied to spend tho romamder of their earthly existences scratching rocks from the soil of Illinois. Wisconsin, and Minnesota to make room for meagre harvests, barely insuring their children's thanks for God's daily bread. And from that hard-working. God-fearing optimistic, yet questioning tradition, we founded a school Since 1891. Through her inspiring faith in Jesus Christ and her scholastic abilities in the field of language arts, Mrs. Danielson has contributed immensely in giving her students a solid and meaningful foundation for their future. The entire Minnehaha community wishes to recognize her upon her retirement from the faculty after 22 years of dedicated service. r 201 I1 (to mioJJI (10) ft . 101 M I (12) ! , Berg.
