You got it. Of course, we ' re talking about the school lunch. Today ' s divine delicacy is the manag- er ' s special. Well, what that really means is you dump all the week ' s leftovers into a colossal pot (there ' s a lot o£ leftovers when you ' re dealing with the School lunch) pot and boil. Serves 5,395. Feeds three. But, seriously now, lunch isn ' t all that bad. If you ' re lucky you may get pre-drained piece of pizza and maybe if you tell them it ' s your birthday, you ' ll get some milk that only recently expired. The true fun about lunch is the people. The Cat. is really a hodge-podge-mumble-jumble of faces, pretty and plain, and voices, little and loud, and your friends (probably the loud of little and loud ). Lunch is a great time to catch a not-so- subtle peek at that gorgeous guy you sometimes accidentally bump into in H-Hall (great hall, that H-Hall), or to see your new girlfriend who, unfortunately, couldn ' t be in any of your classes cuz you ' re an Honors whiz kid and she ' s out of Remedial Homeroom, or to exchange tidbits of life- or-death views and opinions with your gang (who dumped who, last block ' s huge Chem test, you studied the wrong chapter for, new tortures devised to embarrass your worst enemies, etc.). Lunchtime- A time to laugh, a time to live, even a time to love. So what? We ' ll find a time to eat later. Roncalli (V.Pres.), A. Tenbrooh (Treas.). Beginning with the kick-off dance and all the way to graduation day, the senior class officers worked together to create a memorable and ex- citing year for us. The four officers, along with the advisor began planning this year ' s events long before September. All four contributed very much of themselves and their time to make everything happen. Very vast responsibilities were placed on them also, ranging from turkeys to caps and gowns. They took on a lot to make this year special, and we have a lot of good memories thanks to them. The Class of 1 985 has many people to thank, both students and faculty. But, we owe more thanks to Mrs. Streeter, our class advisor, than anyone. Due to her help, the Class of 1985 has had four completely successful years. Freshman year, Mrs. Streeter and class advisor Mrs. Albano helped us to plan successful events such as Freshman Spirit Week and the freshman eighth-grade dance. We also held the button sale and raffle for fund raisers. Unfortunately, Mrs. Albano left Minnechaug, and Mrs. Streeter was to take on our sophomore year by herself. She helped us in our major fund-raiser, the chocolate bunny sales. Due to these sales, we made over $2,000! Junior year began with the work weekend. Although few yards were raked, we made profit and had a lot of fun in the process. Our most successful fund-raiser was our magazine drive; we made over $6,000!!!! The Class of 1 985 is able to brag about having few problems in our four years. Our senior activities, the prom, the banquet, and our senior dances, would not have been possible without the help of Mrs. Streeter, our organizer, our friend, our advisor. The entire Class of 1 985 thanks you. 11 Laura Abar 35 Walnut Rd. Hamp. Teresa Joanne Agnew (T.J.) 10 Stonegate Circle, Wilb. Swimming (1,2,3,4) Track (3), Band (1,2,3,4), P. V. Chairman Language is the light of the mind. John Stuart Mill Hola! Bon jour! How ya doin!! This year the Foreign Language Department, headed by Miss Fey, developed a new outlook on the usual curriculum. Much more emphasis was placed on the art of foreign rapping in addition to grammatical and writing skills. It ' s important that the stu- dents can actually use the lan- guage effectively, explained Miss Fey. Conversational skills are go- ing to be very important for those people looking at the job market for an area in communications. Some colleges are now using a sys- tem of proficiency rating to see with how much ease the student can use the language. Now, students at Minnechaug are also learning about the people and cultures of other countries. They are being encouraged to see that not the whole world thinks the same way, although in some aspects we are all very much the same. Thank you to the foreign language department for helping us learn that. By Tina Desai. The Cheerleading Spirit I ' ll bet you ' re just dying to hear this. Upon a recent survey taken here at Minnechaug, an as- tonishing discovery was made. No one (aside from those lucky cheerleaders) knew the words to our school song! Among the answers received when asked for the lyrics were, Oh say can you see by the dawn ' s early light . . . , Oh that song by Rush? and We have a school song?!??!!! So, you poor unenlightened souls, here at last is your long-awaited dream: Minnechaug ' s very own school song (not to be confused with the Alma Mater, Minnechaug ' s other school song, but forget that, you ' ve probably never heard of that one either.) Here it is: Give a cheer for Minnechaug, sing loud and clear. Our team will do their best and outshine the rest. Rah, rah, rah! Fight for victory, boys come on, win this game. This year for the first time in a decade the club has 89 members. It ' s main goal is to promote the classics, but fortunately this can be done in a fun way. There are three competitions that the members will parcipitate this year. The state competition was the catapult contest held in Waltham, Ma. Minnechaug placed first at this competition. There is another state competition in May at Winchester High School where the JCL competes in art, athlet- ics and academics. This years high lights is the national convention at UNH. Our biggest project as co-hosts will be to plan the opening performance to welcome the other states to New England. Members include T. Auslander, L. Azar, R. Belcastro, N. Bernardo, H. Broderick, A. This annual event is sponsored by the Junior Classical League and always has a large turnout. This year ' s band was Fi- asco, who kept everyone dancing from eight to eleven. 139 ONE ACTS An overdose of applause spilled forth the night of Nov. 1 6 as the Falcon Players slid successfully through yet another quartet of plays. The First, Farmer ' s Daughter, warmed us up with a lighthearted tale of a piano-playing country girl who dreams of making it big in the city and falls prey to a sweet-talking cityslicker who promises to help her but is, in reality, after just one thing — her money. An Overpraised Season blew in next, truly hitting home. This 40-minute play dealt with the problems facing today ' s tears. Then, in slipped A Visitor from Forest Hills by Neil Simon. It was definitely the smash of the evening. This was a beautifully done comedy where a young girl locks herself up in the bathroom minutes before her wed- ding is to take place and refuses to come out. Her hysterical parents ' at- tempts at persuading her to emerge in loads of laughter from the audi- ence. And finally, Chapter Two, an- other Neil Simon play where a man must learn to love again after losing his beloved wife of 12 years. His brother ' s flame ' s friend is the new love interest in his life. Visitor From Forest Hills: D. Badger, C. Roj, J. Horacek, S. Gentile. Behind the scenes. Tim McKenna, Technical Advisor. Each school brings a bill that they feel would make a good law. These bills are debated in various committees and then redebated in the Senate and House of Repre- sentatives. Model Congress gives those students involved a better understanding of how our govern- ment works and how laws are made. It also gives them a look at the many difficulties that there are in succeeding to pass a bill into the law. Who cares? The As Schools Match Wits team does! Any mem- ber of the team could tell you that and the answer to many other dif- ficult questions as well. The team, coached by dauntless leader Ray Musselman, spends weeks preparing for the big match on TV. by memorizing cards and quizzing one another. Then the big day arrives and the team goes to TV 22 for the match. With a little bit of knowledge (and a lot of luck), the team tries to last three matches to go the play-offs in the spring. Nerves were run ragged before the match, Minnechaug was to go against an undefeated Pittsfield, who needed just one more match to go to the play-offs. No prerequisite is required, and cho- rus members are trained in tone production, breathing, and vowel and consonant use. There are the spring and winter concerts as well as the Pavas Arts Symposium. (Left to Right: Numbers 71-133) 167 L_ 1984 - 1985 Happiness is a -way of travel, not nearly a destination. We would like to thank those who have helped us achieve our goal — the 1985 Falcon Yearbook. To our advisor, Mrs. Jeserski, we can never thank you enough for all of your time, patience, and personal sacrifice that you have given us over the past three years. You were the one solid person we could depend on when most others let us down. God, how did we ever get through some of those excruciating moments? Through our three years of work together you ' ve become more than our teacher and advisor, you ' ve become our friend. Without your guidance and support, there would probably never have been a 1985 Falcon. Thank you so much! Mrs. Gordon, thank you for your time and commitment as our business advisor for the past three years. You really helped us last fall when things were still up in the air. Mr. Badger, thank you for your concern and for taking the time to meet with us whenever we needed assistance. Jim McDonald, thank you for your technical help with the 1985 Falcon cover. Don Lendry, our yearbook representative, our thanks to you and your assistant Bob Sasena for your work in putting the Falcon together. Valley Photographers, thank you for all the last minute trips and loads of patience. The Falcon Staff, thank you for all of your time and effort. We finally made it, guys! Kiersten Karplus, thank you so m uch for the different jobs that you did for us without a second thought. Student Government, thank you for your support with the Copy Cat Dance. Mrs. Streeter, thank you for donating a portion of our class money for the baby pictures. Drew Dernavich and Chris Dennis, thank you for your artwork contributions. Shelia Gentile and Joe Horacek, thank you for your help with the Copy Cat Dance announcements (along with the grief you took) and the raffle. Thank you to Linda Fortin and everyone else who helped type copy for us at the last minute. We would like to thank the faculty and students of Minnechaug for their help and support with the 1985 Falcon and the senior class parents for sending us baby pictures and patron money.
