MR. THOMPSON RETIRES Mr. Charles Thompson, head of Minnechaug ' s Guidance Department from 1958 to 1972 and a guidance counselor since 1972, retired in January. During his seventeen years of service, the school ' s population increased five-fold; and Mr. Thompson ' s valuable contributions in many areas helped to meet the challenge of rapid growth. He developed the Guidance Department. Furthermore, he was instrumental in compiling the guidance library, creating contacts for college visitations, and establishing such innovative programs as Work Study and EIIP. In the school ' s early years, he planned the original curriculum and recruited teachers. Later Mr. Thompson chaired the evaluation committee which gained Minnechaug its initial accreditation in 1961. He also opened channels through which many students have obtained financial aid by organizing the Minnechaug Scholarship Committee. Rounding out his activities, Mr. Thompson for seven years (1962-1969) coached the track team which sustained a still unbroken record of sixty wins and two losses. We recognize with gratitude his long, effective and dedicated service and wish Mr. Thompson a satis- fying retirement.
