WILBRAHAM PUBLIC UBRAET UJ.L CoU S T No tree becomes rooted and sturdy unless many a wind assails it. MINNECHAUG REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL WILBRAHAM, MASSACHUSETTS NINETEEN HUNDRED SIXTY EIGHT During these years we grow in many ways: Through studying, wondering, at times, even crying . . the solitude of the hours spent alone; Or through hours spent sharing laughs, songs— a good discussion. 3 And we grow not only with people of our own age But with people of an age that can teach. through guidance, understanding, and knowledge . . . in and out of the classroom And we grow together; as a class. questioning, answering writing, speaking. SENIORS 126 ADS 172 A nd no matter what our part may be, we will wel- come the opportunity, take it, and use it. For we are a generation of doers, of experimenters, and we wel- come challenge. We have the potential of no other generation that has passed before us. Education, his- tory, and the exciting world we live in gives us this capability. We are aware of our power, and through it, we question beyond answering. And we shall con- tinue to question . . . for here lies our greatness. The first few daws were confusion— 330 Freshmen lost, bewildered, and trying madly to organize themselves so that they might become a part of the school. Activities and sports began, class officers and stu- dent council members were chosen to represent your part of Minnechaug. Now that first year is ending; you look forward to three more of many new trials and errors. But this time vou have one more thing on your side: you are no longer Freshmen; you are no longer the underdogs. JV Cheerleaders Enjoy Winning JV Season . . . The 1967 fall season was one of indisputable inter- est, and the J.V. Sporting new white gymsuits, the girls willingly assisted the Physical Education Department in many ways, ranging from taking attendance to ref- ereeing and supervising athletic events. In addi- tion, for the first time they sold the programs you purchased at the home football games. The Swing Band Show Draws Standing Ovation— March 1, 2 Jean Robbins, Denise Mediavilla, and Joe Sullivan sing Find Yourself a Man , from Funny Girl. Judv Clark sings Somewhere Mv Love from Doctor Zhivago. The boys ' chorus line danced their way into the hearts of the audience. The boys ' chorus line— Barrv Morgan, Chuck Poland, Eli Zaret, Craig McCauley, David Gilson, Duncan Hannah, Ron Garden, Doug Richter, and Bob McCarthy. The Swing Band, the dominant force in the show, was made up of Raymond Vakel, Dennis Giokas, Thomas Fogg, Stanley Ten- erowicz and George Lemieux on saxes; trumpeters James Dam oulakis, David Czohara, Peter Snow and Michael Sullivan: on trombones George Riggs, Alvan Richmond and Edwin Thrasher; drummers David Fritz and David Nieske; Man Richmond bass; guitar Jeffrey Levesque and William Ingle on piano. The Swing Band Show, a smashing success with audience and critic alike, combined the talents of individuals with those of a select sec- tion of the band. The first act showed the elite of Minnechang ' s musicians, such as the Boys ' Chorus. The soloists, Judy Clark and Paula Kmetz and folksingers Karen Hamilton and David Christo- pher showed Minnechaug at its best. Act two was an excerpt from the Broadway play Funny Girl, starring Pamela Hunde, Denise Mediavilla, and James Garneau. This part of the Swing Band Show featured both the acting and musical talents of Minnechang ' s finest performers. The Swing Band Show was yet another success for Mr. Beeler and the already illustrious Music Department. Captain Don Babineau performed on the parallel bars with the same ease and perfection that carried him through the season. The end of the show featured various tableaux made by selected gymnasts painted silver. This one is called Bondage and Freedom . Captains Pam Canney and Don Babineau led the Grand March which opened this year ' s gymnastics show. The team offered rapid-fire vaulting, tiger leaping, and a square dance interrupted bv hand- springs and round-offs. Two familiar clowns brought down the house with a riotous parallel bars routine. The exciting night ended with a ser- ies of tableaux dramatically representing the spirit of Minnechaug. Under the direction of coaches Cascio, Mills, Kober and Rainey, the resulting ex- hibition was a show to be proud of. A concerted team effort in both run- ning and field events boosted the Falcons to win over such tough teams as Longmeadow and Tantasqua. Few people realize how much work went into the production of the 1968 synchronized swimming show. Costumes, narration, and props were only a few details contributing to the success of Reflec- tions . Choreography was done entirely by the girls; routines ranged from the wild Westward Ho to the traditional Pomp and Circumstance . The girls worked hard on all their routines, but as usual, they managed to turn this work into fun. Fun included stuffing their clothes with foam from the track high jump pit, hanging Flash (Dave) Cilson ' s sign in the girls ' dressing room, and tossing Coach Cascio in the pool fully clothed. Standing ovations and fan letters all were a part of the tremendous and praiseworthy production. Congratulations to all involved!
