MMM A Q-ww New 'M 5 ,iffy zz wm-.,,,,,,, On July 11, I955 we could gaze into the center court and see- mwfne beginning! cfgclminiotrcctiol, Mr. Nord Announcing . lt is a real privilege to speak to the many readers ot our school annual, THE TRADEWIND. The year I955-56 has been a momentous year in the history ot the Minneapolis Vocational l-ligh School. We have witnessed the completion ot one ot our great dreams, new and improved facilities tor our education program: a beautitul auditorium, a new lunchroom and recrea- tional area, a music suite, and many other necessary additions. A year ago we watched with much satistaction the ground-breaking and preliminary planning tor the set- ting ot the tootings tor the steel structure. It was so important that our new addition have a broad tounda- tion, tootings capable ot withstanding many times the proposed weight ot the new building when occupied ll 8 to capacity. We marveled at the intricate detailed working drawings prepared by experienced architects and how crattsmen representing many trades under- stood this universal language and, using their varied and skilled talents, molded together materials ot many kinds into a beautitul addition to our school. We must plan to use these tine educational tacilities wisely so that you-the students ot today, our prod- ucts, the citizens and tradesmen ot tomorrow-will have the knowledge, skill, understanding, vision, and taith so necessary tor our countryls survival as a major intlu- ence tor good in the world today. Your success in lite will depend upon the tirm toundation you have built through your training program here at Vocational. fl Co-orclincrfors cmd Administration help us plan our futures ' ,v Mr. NormaNn Jensen, Assistant Principal, succeeded this year to the post held by llfMiss MargaretThomson, who retired last V year, ,-1 r Mr. Wilfred McGimpsey and Mrs. Grace Kenyon, Co-ordinator, enioy themselves at the Senior Banquet. l IT , i Mr, Norman Jensen, Assistant Principal: Mr. Royalston Jennings, Mr. Reuben Schafer, Miss Jane Lewis, Mr. Raymond Nord Prn cipalg Mr. Henry Bertelsen, and Miss Helen Andrews pictured at a Co-ordinators' meeting. William Pence James Daire Printing Architectural Dratting Douglas Flilceid Machine Dratting H1161 The Elizabeth Fish Memoriol Auditorium- On May ll, l956, the new auditorium looked like this. The tinish line was in sight, and in another week, our tirst student program, a talent show, was scheduled tor presentation, and sections tor seating were assigned to home rooms. Ot course, there is much more here than meets the eye. This auditorium is designed to hold I6OO people. l-lere we have dressing rooms, pertormers' waiting rooms, scenery storage rooms, orchestra pit, a pro- jection room with cat walk which leads to a light bridge: a movable organ: a lighting system capable ot producing trom 2 to 6600 watts: all ot these things can be controlled by a monitoring system complete with microphones and telephones. And the basement ot the new area houses all the music rooms, the lunch room, and a large recreation area. Yes, there is much more here than meets the eye . . . When we gazed at this new creation in our midst, we thought the ceiling lights had the look ot stars, and somehow the sott reds and greens ot this beautitul interior gave us a homey teeling. This was a place to cherish-a place to be inspired in-a place to come to when we wanted that Htogethernessw ot teeling which is sometimes called school spirit . And it will be here that each graduating class will sing their last song, The Halls ot Ivy -and as time goes by, this Memorial Auditorium will gather and hold the lengthening memories ot the years tor all ot us. H1171 .-1 So swiftly have our high school years rolled loy, that now we pause for a moment to gaze out upon a new vista . . . what lies betore us on this long pathway clouded in mist? Will we be ready to face all that lies ahead with courage, self-discipline, and zest tor lite? l-lave we that certain vital spark to give us the power and drive to reach our goal? All the resources ot our homes and churches, school and community, are behind us . . . we are ready! Carry on, Juniors and Sophomoresl One day you, too, will be scanning the Horizon ahead, asking yourselves the same questions. May you, too, give the ringing reply- we are ready!
