Copacabana Club 1364 Whitney Boulevard Hollywood Hills Los Angeles. California July 18. I960 Dear Bettilou. It was fun to get your letter chuck full of news about our old senior class of '52 at Vocational. So you own your own beauty shop in New York! It must really be a beautiful place if Barbara Mason, leading interior decorator of today, did the job. What a wonderful corps of girls you have working for you with Evelyn Nelson as receptionist and Bonnie Lynch, the world-famous hair-stylist. You say that Kelly Merritt and Leora Thompson are working for Gooney Tunes Picture Studios. I hear they are making that new comedy. How Many Flat Tires on a Vacation? Sort of fits them, don't you think? You must have felt honored when the Great All-American Star, John Schable came into your shop to get a manicure. And was I surprised to hear that Adelpho Williams is being considered for the presidency of Columbia University! I've news for you, too. In my Copacabana Club, here in Los Angeles. I have a chance to meet thousands of people and among them are old Voca-tionalites. Don Nybo stopped in for a visit on his way from a photo studio where he had a passport picture taken. He is planning on going to Europe where he will visit George Lucas, the U. S. ambassador to Transylvania. Don said that Nels Christenson, the class clown, owned the studio. Donna Lane was there, posing for pictures which she is to submit to Metro-Goldwyn Studios. We are holding a special banquet this weekend for Mr. and Mrs. America, our King and Queen of 1952, Dick Herald and Pat Simso. One of our special acts for that night is The Vagabonds . America's most talked about quartet: Roosevelt McDuffie. Phil Johnson, Russ Scott, and John Napue. I've hired three extra entertainers for that occasion: Pat Cota. Harpist. Delores Cauton. the puppeteer, and the new western singing sensation. Owen Spah. For the ban- quet John Huyck, Larry Lorenson, and Norm Olson, my cooks, have prepared a special lobster dinner. The head waiter, Kenny Holgate, draws loads of feminine patrons. He was one of Voc's biggest flirts. Remember? Roger Columbus brought a group of friends up here for a party, Saturday. Included were Ronnie Gibson. Claudette Beiisle. Bud Willner. Monnie Cramer. Ralph Juris, Gwen Dahl and. of course, the blue-eyed Pat Lockadell. The club's Cuban band won top honors at R.K.O. last week. Its members. Rod Neison. Bob Wetherall. and Don Harrer, thank Voc for their start. Barbara Mason designs the costumes for all my entertainers and the band’s too. You should see the club now. I just had it redecorated by Honorine Barth. Her staff, headed by Marie Manikowski. designed the draperies. Charles Grisby and Clifford Marity upholstered the new love seats in the lounge. Joe Zych is responsible for the repairs on all T.V. sets in the place. My secretary, Shirley Sutherland, makes all the arrangements for the parties and entertainers. Her hard work as senior class secretary is paying off now. This afternoon Earl Holland, Carl Klevin, and Roger Barclay stopped in on their way to the air force base. They looked mighty fine in their new uniforms. Shirley St. Marie, who is running for state senator out here, dropped in the other evening with Daryl Borneman. He is head of a big publishing house in San Francisco. Gary Colby is his assistant. Frances Lepeska came in with Fred Bones. She has a wonderful job as editor on the Woman's House Companion. Well—Bettilou. I wish you great success with your shop. The best of wishes to you and any of our former classmates you may see. Sincerely yours, AL C 12 3
