All of us, Seniors and Freshman alike, had some fun. Every now and then you would hear a cry of laughter as we saw them coming towards us. Really, it was not too bad. We had some fun. Even if you had to wear a diaper, or witches outfit, or worst of all, if you were a boy, to dress like a girl. At least, being dressed that way, you did not go unnoticed. Friday was exciting. We got all dressed up for the school day which ended in being escorted to Breck by Seniors for a football game. After that victory we were then ushered downstairs to a great pot luck banquet. When stuffed to the brim, we hurried upstairs to get all dolled up for a very interesting dance. They kept us moving around from room to room. We then returned home. Jon Rehwaldt. We may never pass this way again,” was a fitting theme for Homecoming 1976. For the Seniors it is especially meaningful because this is their last year at M.L.H.S. A brilliant sunset was the setting for an evening that held many memories. With emcees Scott Sylwester and Tim Wolf setting the pace, the New Wine Singers began the evening singing a Beatle’s Medley. Adria Bersie and Mona Zoell-mer created a Gourmet’s delight in their 2 in 1 part II. Returning to their childhood for a moment, Kathy Kingman, Laura Ness, and Roberta Ulrich, sang Peanut Butter and Jelly. In a skit entitled The Restaurant, Michelle Nibbe, Scott Kingman, Ted Lange-wisch, and Ted Hinck helped a few unfortunate Freshman feel like Freshman. Balancing water on their backs was a very humble experience for them. New Wine did another number, Singing in the Rain, complete with umbrellas! The 11 o’clock news was brought to us by Joel Voelker and Eric Walt. The finale: The Diamond-Clad Mohn sister, Monica, Elsa, and Katherine, sang Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.” Now the big event, the moment we’ve been waiting for, Coronation of our new Homecoming Queen. The boxes of roses were distributed and a look of surprise and joy came over our new Queen’s face. Laura Ann Ness had received the white rose . Through tears and smiles she accepted her crown and became our Queen. Saturday morning was the Alumni Brunch followed by the football game against Breck in the afternoon. After a tough game the Lancers lost 12-6. The weekend was highlighted by a dance in the evening, coming 1976 left warm memories. I find it so hard to put into words the emotions I felt, so overwhelming. Everyone looked so beautiful, everyone was so kind so warm so supportive. I only regret that there can’t be more than one queen— so many, many girls deserve the award—I am so sorry! You have given me a weekend I shall always remember. A week of boys and girls basketball games and wrestling meets led up to the highlight— the coronation. A Night of Knights” was the theme for the evening. The set was star-filled, in more ways than one. Emcees Roberta Ulrich and Becky Brauer welcomed everyone and the show began: The New Wine Singers gave us a tour around the world with Jingle Bell Travelouge. Tim Bruess and Joel Voelker took time off from their stage crew duties to lead the audience in song. Laura Ness met Kathy Hendrickson in a skit entitled Boy meets Girl.” The iron grip of Rise Foster managed to pull the hand off of Bob Bayer, Dean Lerum’s creation. As is usual for a coronation, someone always get a pie in the face. This time the lucky fellow was Joel Voelker. The evening's finale was truly C’est Magnifique! Singing the Melissa Manchester song We’ve got time,” Lee Ann Peterson and Dawn Swanson accompanied by Dick Lallak and Jeff Dobberpuhl, did a super job. As a remembrance of this evening, all of the candidates for Sno-Daze king were given tie tacks, but one had a star on it and that is the one the king would receive. The court moved slowly onto the starry stage: ted by Sharon Desiree Reske— “Peace is seeing a sunset and knowing who to thank.” Scott Paul Kingman escorted by Michelle Eileen Nibbe— If you aim at nothing you are sure to hit it everytime.” Paul Richard Koehn escorted by Rachel Marie Rehbein — Love one another . . . and if you get a chance, another and another and another ...” Daniel Leonard Kuhlman escorted by LeeAnn Kay Peterson — There are three ways in which man can express sorrow-The lowest cries—The middle man is silent— But the wise man turns sorrow into song. Richard Daniel Lallak escorted by Dawn Marie Swanson — For some life is a breeze for others it's one headwind after another.” 1976 Homecoming Queen Laura Ann Ness escorted by Tim Wendt and Mark Selchow. The court took their places and the boxes were opened. Instead of one guy stepping forward to claim the crown, all five moved to the center and formed a huddle. Before we knew what was happening, they had resumed their former places and started clapping . . . for Paul Richard Koehn. Although the Night of Knights is over, it will always be a warm memory. The people made it special and my senior classmates are extra precious. Because of the events of that night I will have the joy of singing with deeper meaning •‘Crown Him ye Kings with many Crowns for He is King of All.” If I could share one thing with the people at Lutheran High, all of whom have been often In my thoughts and prayers, it's not the crown, for that will not last, but to live life as one of the King's kids • that is going to last forever. 1977 Sno - Da z e Court Sharon R eske, Tad H I nek, Roche I Rehbeinj Paul Koehn,Dawn Swanson, Dick Lallak, Queen Laura Ness. I didn't know what to think or what to expect after my Roosevelt High School experiences. I decided to face everybody and everything openminded and without prejudices. The hall was broad and cracked so cozy under my feet. Mr. Nitz laid his hand on my shoulders and I felt at home. This day and the first few weeks that followed became very tiring, because there were so many new names to remember [sorry when I asked you three times your name!] My expectations though-I couldn't help having them-weren’t disappointed: I started to really like it! The whole atmosphere is so great in this school; you almost have to feet happy. People are so concerned about you and interested in you. I noticed that you aren’t only Christians in theory; but live in accordance with the Bible, too. Yes, it was a great advantage to go to Lutheran High. I shall feel sorry when your doors close for the last time behind me, but I will take a lot of good memories home! Thank you all for what you did for me. Desiree Smif Youth for Understanding Netherlands Dear Friend, Spring 1977 As you read these closing pages and come to the end of your yearbook, the 1976-77 school year is also quickly coming to its end. Some will see only another year and another yearbook; but this year is unique and no other year will be exactly like it. We had changes such as a new curriculum arrangement, a new principal and five new teachers, increasing enrollment, and remodelled classrooms. Likewise, we had our problems and disappointments, such as disrespectful attitudes in chapel, cancellation of the Dinner Theatre due to lack of interest, and a need for more unity in some snorts. We ve shared and grown together this year, and we 11 always have a part of this year at Lutheran High in us. My sincere thanks to Larson Studio for all their photography. Thank you to Joel Voelker, Mike Abercrombie, Dan Kuhlman, and Ted Hinck for besides taking regular photos, did a lot of late-at-night developing. Thank you to Christina Pach for her contribution of the drawing of our school. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the production of this yearbook. The peace end strength of the Lord be with you all and may next year be filled with unity and promise for our school. i % 'toi fate Your education at Minneapolis Lutheran High School has been centered around a Christian commitment.
