Kays, Kayettes, Pep Club, FHA, and FFA each have one representative. The council is organized to create and maintain high stand- ards of scholarship and citizenship, to represent the student body and to promote social activities. Monte Jackson, a very able vice-president, takes the chair in the absence of Dee Biesterfeld, President. 'The records are kept in order by Jean Hahn, Secretary, and the finances are kept by Darlene Postlerhwaite, Treasurer. The work of the Student Coun- cil would not be as successful if it were not for Mr. Boucher, the sponsor. 'Q vss'8...,-e-'c s al- sr ks' it 'ir D L. Freeman, Sec: S. Morton, Pres: C. CLASS HI 'l'0RY In the fall of 1948 there came wandering into the halls of M.H, S, a group of green freshmen to start their career as underclassmen with Mr. Dave Wooster and Miss Alice Boyce as sponsors and Larry Horner, as president. The sophomore year we all came back, still underclassmen, but looking not so green and a little less be- wildered than we had the year before. Dave Comfort was the big shot for the sophomore class. The highlight of the year was the class picnic at the State Lake, from which we all recovered. Mr. Roy Carlson and Miss jean Seifert helped us through the year, Our Junior year found us actively engaged in money-making ideas for the banquet. Two paper drives were sponsored with everyone pitching in to help. Under the direction of Miss Kathryn Smith, the juniors gave the play, We Shook the Family Tree. With the theme Over the Rainbow, we presented a beautiful and enjoy- able junior-senior banquet and prom. President Sheila Morton and the sponsors, Miss Kathryn Smidr, Miss Jane Rogers, and Mr. Roy Carlson guides us through a profitable year. And now, with eighteen members of the original kindergarten class left, we have finished the last lap of our journey. Mr. Carlson. Miss Rogers, and Miss Eileen Heinen helped make this last year an enjoyable one. The time is growing shorter till we march down the aisle and receive our diplomas, and we are wishing we could start the journey again. In August we had our first paper drive which involved much hard work, and, at the same time was lots of fun. On the night before Homecoming, if you didn't happen to see any jun- iors running around, it was probably because we were working like mad to fin- ish our float for the parade. Our efforts proved to be not in vain, because our float took second place in the judging, Our next big event was the Junior Play, and on Nov. 30, we gave Dear Ruth. Our class rings arrived early in December and we were really glad to get them after waiting two long months. During Christmas vacation we started another big project--a scrap iron drive. It was hard work, but it tumed out to be very profitable for us. Basketball stands and dances led to the climax of a most successful year--a very wonderful Junior-Senior Banquet, and Prom. With the help of our sponsors, Miss Kathryn Smith, Miss Mary Mc- Cullough, and Mr. Richard Wegner, we had a very profitable year. - -Dianne Schur- - HAG PARTY FIRST ROW: Miss Smith, L. Atwell, R. When Fresh- men initiation rolled around we were reminded of those sweet memo- ries and glad that we are Sophomores now. With a little money in our treasury, we soon added to it by spotrllsoring some stands at B team games and an attendance award at e Halloween Party, and when, in the Homecoming Parade, our float proved very successful. That first place prize really meant a lot to us. - Another thing, which made everyone look twice was when the Sophomore girls decided to have a Clash Day. It was fun for a day, but we were as thankful, as was everybody else, when we changed back to more sensible colors. With the help of our sponsors, Miss Jeanne Smith and Mr. Louis Thompson, our all-school party and Memorial Day Dinner were suc- cessful. --Jean Hahn-- Sponsored by HAHN OIL CO. They were later pleased to find that me upper-classmen in those corridors were warm and friendly. They ere especially kind and patient September 17, for on September 18, me Freshmen, with prompting of the upper-classmen, started the cus- rm of wearing clothes wrong side out and backwards, and their hair lpigtails. The custom lasted only that day which ended with a water- melon feed in our honor.
