HISTORY OF BUILDINGS CContinuedD In 1904, what is now the Junior High Building was erected. It was built at that time for a .Senior High School. The Lott Brothers contracted this building for S20,000. The architect was C. W. Squires. This is a large red brick building facing the south. On the first H-oor there are iive large classrooms and a hallway. On the second floor there are two rooms used for the teaching of music, one for instrumental lessons and the other for vocal lessons. There its also an auditorium with a seating capacity of 375. The cornerstone to this building was laid by Hattie Barber fSeniorJ on Friday, May 13, 1904, at 4 p. m. In 1916 the present High School was built. The contractors were Powers and Kernsg the architect was Owens, and the cost of the building was 328,785.60 This building was made of red brick and faces the east and south. On the first floor there is a Manual Training room. Across the hall from this is a finishing and store room. Across the hall occupying nearly half of the l-ower floor is a gymnasium. The door is sunk 12 feet below the level of the hall. Also on this Hoor is the girls' locker room. On the second door there are five classrooms, the offices and the jour- nalism laboratory. On the third floor are three classrooms, a science laboratory, a G. R. room and a study hall and library. The new grade school building built during '38 and '39 was contracted by the Johnson Brothers for S117,250. The architect is Charles Shaver, and the architect inspector is O. D. Lott. This building was constructed of light bricks and faces the west. The north end of the building is occupied by the auditorium and gymnasium combined. It has a seating capacity of 1310. The south division consists of ten classrooms, a long hallway and the oEices. This building is to be heated by two steam boilers. This school has all the modern equipment of today, including air conditioning. The classes will attend there for the first time next fall.
