ELECTIONS Student Council This year we had two candidates for Student Council president. They were Betty Kurth and Deane Haning. Deane's hard work on campaigning along with the fine record that he has made during his three previous years at M,C.H.S. won the election for him, When asked why he wanted to be Student Council president, Deane replied, I'm interested in politics and I wanted to see if I could handle the campaign and hold the office. When deciding upon the type of campaign to use, Deane was influenced by a statement made by Coach Saunders at a basketball banquet at which he said, if you don't toot your own horn, no one else will. Some ideas for his campaign came from the F.F,A. convention which he attended last summer. Deane's campaign went into full swing on the Wednesday after school started. When asked the reason for a cam- paign, Deane answered, Anything that is worth doing is worth working for. All School Treasurer Pat Malinowski was elected as All School Treasurer this year. She worked with Deane Haning in his campaign, She held a very important job and has done fine work in it. DAR and SAR During the month of January, the Senior Class met and nominated three boys and three girls to receive the DAR and SAR Good Citizenship Awards presented by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The faculty then met and selected one boy and one girl from the six nominees. The qualifications on which the awardees were selected are forthe DAR, dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism: and for the SAR, honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism. The recipients of this year's awards were Patricia C. Malinowski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Malinowski, and Deane H. Haning, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Haning. LIBRARIANS -an W 'irtriilii

BASEBALL Our baseball team had great success this year by winning the M.V.L. baseball championship. One thing that contributed to the success of the team was the new field on which we played. Also there was the fact that some of the boys were able to play baseball all summer by playing in Bloomington through the Ameri- can Legion. The most important contribution was the fine coaching job that was done, for without a coach there would be no team at all. Our record for the season was 6 wins and l loss. Listed below are the batting averages of the players which are very good. Bahan ---------- .417 lmig ----- ----- . 400 Mueller ---- --- .286 Freitag ----- ---- . 294 Cruse ---- ---.273 Berry, Don CICIHCCDS ' ' ' . lngold ----- -- -. Conn ----- - - -. Lovins ---- - - -. .412 500 125 111 500 Berry, Duane ---- .500 The team average for the year was .348 which ls very good. We received new baseball suits also this year. This helped to give the team more spirit. We would like to thank the fans who turned out for the games. We were glad to see such a turn out for baseball, the sport which has been the underdog in past years at M.C.H.S. We would like to wish the team of 55-56 better success than the team of 54. Bring home that first place trophy again next year! 37
