DEDICATION With this book we honor a man whose life exemplifies a genuine concern for the people in the Mineral Wells area. This concern is shown by his collecting of the Mineral Wells High School Burro for 68 consecutive years, from 1910-1978. Born south of Mineral Wells, January 28, 1907, he attended grade school and high school in Mineral Wells and graduated in 1926. He worked at J.S. Murphy Construction Company after graduation and was in that kind of work until his retirement. He married an ex-classmate Etta Mae Shands on July 28, 1828. They lived in the Sturdivant Community for almost 50 years, or until his death on February 24, 1978. It is with great pleasure that the 1979 Burro Staff dedicates this book to Virgle Ralph Swanson. ► • 12 Superintendent Bill Hall, provides leadership for the entire school district. Even with only two of last years mem- bers returning, and a new advisor, Mrs. Martha Massing- ill, the staff was able to publish at least one issue per- month, containing such features as sports, opinion polls, and puzzles. Teresa Norman was the editor for the first half of the year, supervising over interviews typing, proofreading, page make-up, and sales. Mark Paul, David Warren, Stephan Smith, and joy Spurger served as Art Editor, Ex- change Editor, Sports Editor, and Bookkeeper for the fall quarter. The students were graded on the basis of how many tips they turned in, how many stories they wrote, the number of advertisements contracted, and the amount of newspapers they sold, as well as time spent outside of class working on projects such as the float for the Christ- mas parade. a. But due to tough road games and injuries to the team's players, the Rams began to slow down. However, the Rams did finish the season with a very impressive 5-5 record. With the season over and a strong off season coming up, the coaches are already looking forward to next year. The coaching staff expects the under classmen who played hard this year to step in and fill several key positions that will be vacated by graduating seniors. M.W.H.S.
