It seems to be a fitting theme for the environment in which pupils spend four of the most significant years of their lives. The implica- tions contained therein are many, and can not readily be spelled out, but let us examine some of them briefly. To begin with, happiness, whe- ther in schoolor at home, cannot be provided by someone else for us. We must secure it by our actions, our attitudes our accomplishments in the day by day work situations that confront us The happiness referred to is not something tangible it is a state f mind Its possession causes us to be enthusiastic about our school and about our experiences in it Con versely pride in our school stem ming from work well done will in duce a feeling of happiness So it rests largely with us Coop erative effort as exemplifiedby this edition of the Burro is a sure means toward the goal stated in the words above In America we develop individual capa cities through our system of universal education It strengthens us as individual citizens It develops social sensitivity ff -.af cooperativeness moral stamina ability f zeal creativeness democracy and self direction Each of us should strive to benefit from this system MR T W CARPENTER Principal .xi -P x 4 1 ' r . . . f t . is t I , O l V I If 1 Q n Qfmw . l '-. ,w A. 4' ' , - , - - D I ..,r: 'e g V , , ' f ,I t , . . . . .ji 7 c 1: ' ii K. CLASS 0F'59 The senior class of 1959 has had various activities to enliven their year. Although busily completing their last year of studies in high school, the seniors had extra time for the Annual Slave Sale and dance, the Senior movie, and the Senior Prom. The attendance of Career Day at T, C, U. was also an educational and enjoyable occassion for the members of the class. They will discover my importance. The Junior Class really got things rolling this year. They really cleaned up---the sidewalks that is. To promote school spirit the Junior class sponsored student buses to the out -of-town football games for the first time. Also, beanies, buttons, and Mountaineer dolls were sold. During basketball season the class sponsored con- cessions at the games. Also included in their activities were the Junior sock hop, and two paid assemblies, from which the proceeds went to finance the biggest and best Junior-Senior banquet ever. STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council is one of the most active clubs in Mineral Wells High School, sponsoring throughout the year various activities beneficial to the entire student body. Some of its established annual activities are the following: Career Day, Dutch Week,a Student Directory and a field trip. This year the organization traveled to Dallas to visit the police station. The Club also does less noticed services for the school. For instance, every day a Student Council member gives the morning prayer. Also, a Junior Class Officer, by tradition, raises and lowers the flag daily. Another job of no small importance is the keeping of the school calendar by the Student Council Vice-President. The Student Council is composed of one representative from each homeroom, the four Student Council Officers, and Junior Class Officers as ex-officio members. These thirty-five students repre- sent the entire student body in many decisions of importance. 45 2 Art Editor CAROL LEE E Q- 'Q BETH RAMSEY Feature Editor PRISCILLA RIORDAN Cla s s Edltor ig LINDA WILBORN Club Editor ' BETTY WELDON MEN- Ass't Class Ed1tor RAMSEY HORTON Sports Ed1tor CONNIE RE YNOL DS Adve rtxs mg Manage r in GLENNA HENNING Ass 't Club Edxtor Jo ANN Buscuow ln' SUZANNE HARRIS Typist Adve rtis ing Manage r Y . , I 1 , , . ,- 1, I W: f' fm Y ' ' f v 1 1 . 4 Q ' V J, ,774 V Y ' 1 v A 5. -Aw-no Ds if BURRO STAFF KATHERINE BROOKSHIRE Editor This year in preparing the 1959 Burro for you we strived to make it as representative of M, W, I-LS, student life as possible. Only those who have completed four semesters of school work with at least an 85 average are eligible. An initiation ceremony which is held in the spring is one of the most impressive assemblies of each school year. This year, the National Honor Society enjoyed a Christmas banquet and two field trips, one in the spring and the fall. The local chapter is fast becoming one of the most effective organizations of the community under the direction of Mrs. Trurnan Harris, sponsor. 48 OFFICERS: Alvis Barrier, Pres. As shown by their seasonal record of 15 wins and 8 losses, our boys completedone of the most out- standing seasons witnessed by the student body in many years. Four Seniors and one Junior, sparked by Coach Bill Perrin, composed the starting line up of our A Team. The boys displayed brilliant teamwork and sportsmanship in every game. ln district competition the Rams played Graham, Weatherford, Vernon, Breckenridge, and Brownwood. The student Body suddenly caught basketball fever and supported the Mountaineers with more spirit and vitality than ever before.
