Dorothy Westbrook To Hubert M. Carnes, superintendent of the Mineral Wells public schools, we wish to dedicate the 1955 BURRO. In his three years at Mineral Wells Mr. Carnes has achieved numerous improvements, the largest of which is our new high school build- ing. His able guidance is felt throughout the school system. Se are proud to take this opportunity to pay tribute to an outstand- ing leader in the schools and community. SEPTEMBE K With September come the end of summer and the rush of preparation for classes. Foot- ball team observed a custom that was renewed last year. The decision was made by secret ballot, and a unanimous vote for Miss Norman established her as Football Sweetheart for 1954-55. The Council is composed of twenty-two members, who are four officers, elected by the student body, and a representative from each home room. Several members at- tended the Annual PASF Convention in Austin where they entered various contests. Among the year’s activities were an annual field trip to Fort Worth, the keeping of a scrapbook, a party for the town’s Mexican children, a Spanish supper prepared by the members themselves, a collection of Pan-American literature for the library, correspondence with students in Mexico, and a celebration of Pan- American Day with an assembly program and exhibit. Besides arousing and strengthening school spirit by its attendance at all football games and pep-rallies, the band entered the Inter- scholastic League Contest in Abilene where it got a second rating. It also participated in other activities at Austin, North Texas, Lake Worth, and Jacksboro. The band is one of the most important organizations of the school and deserves much credit for its outstanding work.
