THE B TEAM AT ACTIGN The Mountaineer B Team has surely earned justifiable recognition through its past year. The team chalked up victory after Victory. The record was only slightly marred by one tie. This team was cornposii, ot determined boys who fought for their school and team and not tor personal honors. These players are certainly patterned after the definition ot a good Mountains eer. The team was backed by many fans and the B Team Cheer- leaders. These girls, Shirley Polk, Ruby Polk, Shirley Blackwell, Darlene Brooks, and Annette Burns, worked diligently at creating a greater school spirit among the fans and the players. VVe salute the future Mountaineers. Page 56 Back Bow: Harris MINERAL WELLS VS. HANDLEY The Mountaineers cpened their conference sea- son by playing Handley Oct. IQ. After holding Handley the first half with a 25-I8 score, the Moun- taineers slowed down in the second half, and Hand- ley scored a touchdown. This tied the game 25 to 25. Two bad punts then cost the Mountaineers the game. The first faulty punt gave Handley a safety. The next punt was blocked and gave Handley an- other touchdown. The score ended 34 to 25 for Hand- ley. MINERAL WELLS VS. BIRDVILLE The Mountaineers tied their second conference game Oct. 26 with the final score 20 to 20. With quarterback Don Mitchell's long passes and the sen- sational catches cf the ends and backs, we held the Buffaloes to a tied ball game. Although the game ended in a tie, this game was counted a win since it was a conference game and we had I5 first downs to their 6. Our penetrations were 3 each. MINERAL WELLS VS. DIAMOND HILL The Mountaineers met the Diamond Hill Eagies on home ground and were defeated 27 to 0. The Eagles received on the opening kick-off and scored in the early part of the game. The Eagles continued on their way with a T.D. in every quarter. This result did not appear so terrifying across the score board because the Eagles had us out matched in size and weight. l MINERAL WELLS VS. ARLINGTON The Mountaineers l95l football season was closed November l6, by the final game between the Min- eral Wells Mountaineers and Arlington Colts. Al- though the Mountaineers were defeated 30 to 7, the I3 seniors displayed their best playing abilities. Don Mitchell hit Price with a spectacular pass, which gained us our only touchdown of the game. That game will be remembered because of the sensational 35 yard field goal made by the Colts.
