THE BURRO RdJished by Students Mineral Wells School T H E E S D P I E T A 0 K R S To Mr. J. A. McKinney, our Mr. Mac: For a long term of faithful and cheerful service that few people are ever privileged to give to one institution, the Burro Staff of 1948-49 humbly pauses to pay tribute to one most deserving. Proud, indeed, are the many sons and daughters of Mineral Wells to have gained from one so modest such an enlarged vision of the true worth of loyal service. Twenty-eight years of nothing ever short of his best challenges the best in each of us. Thank you, Mr. Mac! O. H. GRANTHAM RAYMOND BRISTOW President Secretary NOBLE GLENN J. H. We are sincere when we say that it has been fun being your freshmen for one whole year. Your patient counseling and consideration for our many inevitable errors will be ours by which to prosper. On many occasions you have even pretended that you needed our cooperation and feeble efforts, and in this wav we were made to feel that we belonged. But now that our internship is drawing to a dose, we trust that we now merit the approval of every student and faculty member for a higher berth. For the future, we pledge to you our ardent support and deep concern ever for the better- ment of our school. But how elevating to our ego will it be to return next fall as full pledged Sophomores. When belter Sophomores enroll in M.W.H.S., it will be because better Fheshmen have made them so. NORMA JEAN TAYLOR—For your radiance of sweet living, we are truly grateful that you have passed our way. SCOTT BROOKSHIRE—Indicative of all straight thinking, Scott has a way of side-tracking all minor issues and holding true to only the vital ones. HERMAN BOONE—There are many things about him that his extreme modesty cannot hide, and they are such good things that they have a way of coming back to us. ALMA WOODELL—Her unaffected soul is the reason that she is so personally beloved in the hearts of the humblest. CLARENCE BENTON—His alertness and fair sense of justice make each day for him a better time HAROLD BARRETT—He believes in skipping all formalities of flattery and driving straight down the line for his success. BETTY JANE RICHARDS—In her one has ex- perienced the rare and beautiful which she has never refused to share with the less fortunate. PATSY BARBER—She learned early in life to steer the ship rather than pass the watch; so her school life can do naught but net her the most profit. SHIRLEY WOOLDRIDGE—To know her is to hear a powerful argument for all that is good and es- sential in life. JIMMY WALKER—His philosophy for a fruitful career has been going around doing for others what so many people lack the courage to do for themselves. DON MITCHELL—Those who know Donnie best agree that his football record is not the most en- viable thing he has to offer. The Eagles scored in the second quarter, and the Mountaineers came right back to score in five plays. The extra point failed, and penalties put the Mountaineers in a hole at the beginning of ihe third quarter. Johnson punt- ed out, but it was run back to the seven from where Hillsboro scored. An intercepted pass started the Eagles on the next scoring drive. Then the Mountaineers came back to score on Barrett's passes; again the extra point fail- ed. The Eagles scored the last time on a Mountaineer fumble in the fourth quarter. CHAD BOONE End, I year letterman Wt. 180—Ht. 5’11 Veal makes a nice runback against San Angelo. The rest of the first half was spent in a defensive duel. After the half the Mountaineers scored the first time they had the ball. The extra point was good. The next time the Mountaineers got the ball they scored again. After holding the Tigers for downs, they punted to the 10 where Veal took the ball and came all the way back. Mason and Veal scored twice each. The Tigers never got into the Mountaineer territory until late in the 4th quarter when the Mineral Wells reserves were in the game.
