The day for which we had waited patiently was now upon us. Soon we would walk down the aisle and receive our final instructions. Wanting leaders who could successfully cope with any problem during this wonderful year, we elected the following officers: President, Danny Fulk, Vice-President, Fred Lewis, Secretary, Cheryl Watts, and Treasurer, Sylvia West. The Senior officers of the Key Club were President, David Matlock, Vice-President, Darrell Church, Secretary, Danny Fulk, Treasurer, Clifford Venable, Chaplain, Fred Lewis, and Reporter, Fred Miller. The Senior Anchor Club officers were President, Sandra Flynt, Chaplain, Becky Lindsay, and Senior Director, Betty McNeil. Receiving the honors for publications were Bonnie Dills, Editor-in-Chief of the BEACON, Brenda Sparks, Editor-in- Chief of the LARENIM, and Mary Frances Haneline, Editor-in-Chief of the PRELUDE. Invited into the Quill 8 Scroll were Brenda Sparks, Mary Haneline, Lois Shipley, and Sandra Simmons. Elected Co-Chiefs of the cheerleaders were Cheryl Watts and Nancy Cromer. In athletics, Tri-Captains of the football team were Jim Ricci, Rodney Cook, and Byron Henley, Tri-Captains of the boys' basketball team were Calvin Lawson, jim Hudson, and Byron Henley. Leading our girls' basketball team were Dianne Dezarn, Judy Fulp, and Martha Hauser. Heading the track team were Ed Pinson, MickeyAustin, Danny' Fulk, and Richard Lancaster. Receiving honors that year were Clifford Venable, chosen Anchor Club Admiral, Sylvia West, Key Club Sweetheart, and Cheryl Watts, Hi-Y Sweetheart. Inducted into the National Honor Society were David Matlock, Fred Lewis, Tommy Grubbs, Robert Wolfe, Brenda Sparks, Sandra Flynt, Cecil Ann Irvin, Cheryl Watts, Lois Shipley, and Barbara Dyer. Chosen Snow Queen was Carole Trivette, with attendants Sandra Flynt, Becky Lindsay, Connie Kapp, and Nancy Cromer. Bringing honors to our class was Wayne james, who won the Patrick Henry Oratorical Award here at Mineral Springs. He then went on to win the Forsyth County title in the twenty-fifth annual National High School Oratorical Contest. Fred Lewis received first alternate appointment to Annapolis, the highest appointment received by a Mineral Springs student. This was an exciting year for us. We chose our class colors, flower, motto, mascots, elected twenty prominent members of our class to a special lNho's Who section in the LA RENIM, dedicated our yearbook to a faculty favorite, and chose class superlatives for a special Class Day program. We've tried hard this year to make it the best, not only scholastically, but also citizenshipwise. Remembering this, we can now say, Look not mournfully into the Past. It comes not back again. Wisely improve the Present. It is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy Future, without fear, and with a manly heart. Longfellow, Hyperion SAND RA SIMMONS Historian 61
