The Junior Classical League is a notional organization composed of local classical clubs in junior and senior hlgh schools throughout the United States and lts territories. These local clubs are known as chapters of the Junior Classical League. The purpose of the Junior Classical League ls to encourage among the young people an in- terest in and appreciation of the civilization, language, literature and art of ancient Greece and Rome, and to give them some understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of classical antiquity. The Junior Classical League was founded in the fall of i936. ln l953, there were l7,4O0 members and 569 chapters. Any local group with 5 or more students who are taking Latin or who have completed all the Latin offered may become a chapter. Upon affiliation, each chapter receives a charter printed in purple and black on parchment paper, and each member then acquires national membership in the J. C. L.
