BOARD OF EDUCATION The school board repres nts the people of thxs communltyl ln the conduct of the school The superrntendent IS the ex ecutrve of the board who rep resents them The success of, the school very largely depends! upon hrs calculation and devo tron of duty and extent to whrch the board cooperates w1th hlm rn school affarrs All mem bers of the board of educatron except the clerk work wlthout pay to g1ve therr tlme and en ergy every year for the welfare of our school for whlch they recelve only the satlsfactron of provldlng educatron for the chrldren of the commumty n return The clerk of the board IS entrtled by law to a salary ofl ten dollars a year but xery sel dom ID our school dlstrnct does he collect thls small amount The work of the school board IS not a bed of roses Very few people realize the extent of thelr careful plannrng rn this trme of depresslon to make as sets balance ll3bll1I16S Yet people are ready to cr1t1c1ze them for any small mlstake they mrght make and xery few people pralse them for the many helpful thmgs they do A few years ago the state leglslature passed a law makxng all schools operate on a cash basxs Thxs caused even more careful plan 1 nmg on the part of our superm tendent and school board smce the school d1str1 cannot pur chase anythlng on cred1t Th re fore fmances must be planned to such a pomt that there can be no errors or mrstak At the last sess on of the leg1slature a tax l1m1tat1on law was passed whxch cut down the amount of taxes that could be levxed rn our d1str1ct Thrs cut our share of taxes 1n half and the chool IS forced to run on one half the money rt was form rlv run on whlle the enrollment has trlpled rn s1x years Even agamst these odds the board of educatron and our supermtendent have been able to meet all these ex pendrtures and ralse lVl1neral Hugh School from a class C school to a class A school Also thev have gxven us 1 school that rs known throughout the state Every student of Mmeral h1gh school should regard the board of educatlon with a great undyrng honor as men who are content to serve year after year because of the good that they are domg for the children of the communrty The members of the board are Presxdent V V VlcDan nel Treasurer E O Vanors dall Clerk John Flnlay Mac as he rs affectlonately called rs beloved by all our young people because of all that he has been able to do to help boys and girls to recelve an edu catlon Several boys have gone to college because of hrs assrst ance He IS always ready t h lo rn any way posslble The oldes member of the board rn pomt of serv1ce IS Mr Vanorsdall who has untrl thrs year had chxldren of hrs own ln school He has always taken a gr at lnterest ln the actrvxtles of the school Mr Nolan says that 1n a perrod of srx years durmg wmch he has been con nected wlth th school lVlr Vanorsdall has not mnssed a srngle meetxng of the board He was a member of the board when th new audrtorrum was bullt and It IS largely due to hum that such a splendld struc ture graces our educatlonal plant He rs always kmd and soft spoken and earns the ad m1rat1on and respect of all those who come rn contact wrth h1m John Frnlay IS the newes member of the board rn pomt of serv1ce and has always shown a wlllmgness to frght the bat tles of Mrneral Hlgh School no matter where those battles mlght lead hrm He has two chrldren rn school and takes gr at lnterest nn thexr welfare as well as the welfare of all those who are served by the school We feel that every student owes a vote of thanks and grat rtude to these men who are wrll mg to sacrlfnce thelr personal IH terests to serxc us 0 . .h . . v fe ' A ' . . 2 ', .
