High School Administration Curiosity may have proverbially killed the cat, but it certainly has improved the human condition. Consider the vast amount of knowl- edge we now have about genetics and heredi- tary medicine because a young English natural- ist, Charles Darwin, took a hazardous trip around the South American coast in a small sailing vessel in 1831. While others merely looked at the strange scenery, he was curious enough to notice dif- ferences between the species of animals and plants in the islands and on the continent itself. His observations eventually formed the basis of a theory that was to provoke the greatest controversy of the century ... evolution. It also led to many vital scientific and medical advances. In selecting CURIOSITY as its theme, the edi- tors of Signet focused on the basic quality that stimulates learning. Most of your future educa- tion really consists of satisfying your own curi- osity. Those of you who continue to be inter- ested in what has happened in the past and what is occurring now are the people who will influence tomorrow. They are the informed — the learned. I wish you every success in your future pur- suits with the added wish that you stay curious to the world around you. Paul Flanzer MR. PAUL FLANZER- Principal MR.
