High School Administration MR. PAUL FLANZER- Principal MR. ARTHUR HERRFORTH- Assistant Principal MR. DAVID CHURCH- Director of Secondary Education While we never read him in an English class, the most widely read American author of the late 19th century was a New Englander named Horatio Alger. He wrote over a hundred dime novels, which basically had the same theme - work hard and you will persevere. This is a subject which would be timely in any era. The person who sets his sights on a goal and pursues it with vigor has the best chance to succeed. In the last century the famous fi- nancier, Andrew Carnegie, was a model for the struggling young worker who dreamed of a rags to riches” destiny for himself. For us today perseverance” is the theme which your Signet editors selected because it is so appro- priate to the relentless competition of our highly technological society. Achieving success in school and acquiring a promising career require constancy of pur- pose. Horatio Alger would have said, “God helps those who help themselves.” That's per- severance!
