High School Administration MR PAUL FLANZER- Principal MR. ARTHUR HERRFORTH- Assistant Principal MR. DAVID CHURCH- Director of Secondary Education A dozen years from now, when most of you will reach that period of trauma on turning 30, you may retrieve this copy of SIGNET from a remote shelf. What were you like - and how did you perceive your world when you were a high school senior? In all probability, you will not remember the dishar- mony of our times. The sectarian fighting in Lebanon will have been relegated to a musty history book, and the various domestic labor disputes items in a long list of all too familiar human frailties. Will you live in a non-harmonious time when you are 30? A famous author, George Orwell, predicted a dif- ferent kind of harmony in 1984, which happens to be the title of his book. He envisioned an oppressive har- mony created by “Big Brother, an omnipotent over- seer of society, who enforced conformity and obedi- ence to authority that stifled creativity and freedom. This is not the kind of harmony that your SIGNET editors had in mind when they selected it as their theme for this issue. Fortunately, it is our unique brand of American disharmony that allows us to peaceably disagree - even with our leaders - and thus our free- doms are preserved. My hope for you, besides happiness and personal satisfaction, is that you will be able to read this in 1996 and be living in a world of harmony, achieved through peace and understanding. Best wishes for a glorious life ahead. Paul Flanzer MR. ALPHONSE RATTO- Administrative Assistant for Student Activi- ties
