High School Administration MR. PAUL FLANZER-Principal Has the computer age reduced us to a num- ber? To the various levels of government and to some businesses as well, our identity is a Social Security number. But to our friends and loved ones, we are unique and irreplaceable. When the editors of SIGNET asked me to write this piece on identities, I first thought of Descartes' famous quotation, “I think, there- fore I am. If there is anything to be learned from four years in high school, it is that you are your own person. We may belong to many groups and identify with them, but ultimately we are responsible for our own actions. Yet we owe multiple allegiances in our com- plex existence. Each of us owes tremendous loyalty to our family, our faith, our school, community, and country. Within each of these are other groups with which we identify. In addition to our allegiance to our school, we identify ourselves by our class, by organiza- tions or teams to which we belong, and to a group of personal friends. As you go off to college or to a job, you have one identity in common; you are alumni of Min- eola High School. May this identity always be a source of pride and remembrance to which your thoughts will often return. Paul Flanzer MR. ARTHUR HERRFORTH-Assistant Principal MR. DAVID A.
