Inspiration is the motivating force that encourages us to seek our full potential as it heightens our expectations of life. We are influenced by various aspects of our environment - the people who touch our lives and all that we experience. 5 This influence inspires us to set our goals and strive towards their fulfillment. Whether our efforts culminate in success or failure, 10 I ACULTT District Administration MR. ROBERT RICKEN Superintendent of Schools MR. GEORGE RUSSO Assistant Superintendent for Personnel DR. LOUIS FORMICA Assistant Superintendent of Schools MR. GERARD GRUENFELDER Business Manager Board of Education MR. THOMAS DINAPOLI President I i k MR. MICHAEL PHILBURN Vice-President High School Administration The theme selected by your Signet editors is INSPI- RATION. By definition it is the action or power of mov- ing the intellect or emotions. In practice it is a driving force in each of us that creates ideas and a reason for living. Can you think of someone who has been an inspira- tion to you? Is there a certain person after whom you would like to pattern your life? Has a particular exper- ience influenced you deeply? If you cannot reply yes to any of these, look around as you offer this yearbook for signing to friends, family, and teachers. Think about the times that a friend has shown you kindness, a relative love, and a teacher a new way of looking at things. Each of these experiences provides ideas and substance which make you unique as an individual. Collectively they provide the inspiration for you to do good things with your life. To the Class of 1982,1 wish you much happiness and success in the years ahead. I hope that your brief stay at Mineola High School has given you some inspira- tions towards the attainment of these good wishes. MR. PAUL FLANZER- Principal Paul Flanzer MR. We exper- ienced a change in our relationships with our family, friends, and teachers, and we discovered what would be expected of us throughout our high school years. By the time we reached sophomore year, we were fully adjusted to our new school, and we thus gained greater self-reliance. This confidence gave us the cour- age to accept new responsibilities and to become more involved within the school community. As juniors, we directed our attention towards making the important decisions which would influence our fu- ture. We took a closer look at ourselves and our goals, and we sought guidance from the people whom we respect. Our underclassmen years have provided us with the foundation upon which to build our future plans. We have acquired knowledge and understanding by culti- vating friendships and undergoing new experiences. We have been inspired to strive toward greater en- deavors. 41 Freshmen Ernie Lupinacei. President A major goal of the Freshman Class was to increase the size of its treasury. The members of the class accomplished this through a number of fund-raising activities, such as pen, magazine, light bulb, and Christmas ornament sales. The Class of '85 further demonstrated its spirit and ini- tiative by selling refreshments at sports events. With this ambitious and energetic outlook, the Freshmen look forward to making their remaining years at MHS eventful ones. Michael Lupinacei. Vice-President •Connie Kostacos, Secretary Michael Donohue, Treasurer Ms. Sinisgalli, Advisor Sophomores Pat Ockovic, President The members of the Class of '84 orga- nized many events during the past year. One of the most memorable of these was receiving their school rings. The students also conducted various fundraisers, includ- ing lollipop and spice sales. In addition, the officers planned an exciting roller skating party in conjunction with the Junior Class. The dedicated Sophomores anticipate that their junior year will be as enjoyable and productive as their past two years have been. 48 Mrs. Glucksman. Advisor «MI Juniors The Class of '83 dedicated much of its time to preparing for the Junior- Senior Prom. This memorable event was held at the Woodbury Country Club and was enjoyed by all. The mem- bers of the class raised the funds for the prom by selling refreshments at Open House, the S.O. Variety Show, cheering competitions, and basketball games. The spirited Juniors look for- ward to an exciting senior year. Dale Bryk, President Sharon Adler, Vice-President Kara Tedone, Secretary Liz Roche. Treasurer 52 Ms. P'Simer, Advisor Mr. Domoroski, Advisor Jeanne Lee. President Helena Tenedorio. Vice-President The Class of '82 will always be remembered as one of the most spirited classes to pass through Mineola High. As a class, we partici- pated in many unforgettable events that will leave an impression on the classes in years to come. As the years go by, we will look back and notice all of the contribu- tions we, as a class, have made for this school. Our participation in Girls' Week has enabled us to voice our school spirit. The refurbish- ing of the Senior Lounge expressed to other classes that as seniors we had accomplished certain goals and privileges. Our famous flow- er sales not only helped to support the class financially but also added a sense of spirit to our school. Taking the fine and happy memories of MHS, we must move on to different and greater tasks. As we enter college or the working world, we will know that behind us, we have left many great impres- sions on the future classes to pass through MHS. As an elected representative of this class, I would like to wish you a future filled with much happiness and prosperity. Jeanne Lee Patricia Mackin, Secretary Valedictorian As we look back on our high school years, we see the many events that have shaped us into what we are today: the loves and hates, the joys and sorrows, the prideful and shameful moments that have all made their mark on us. We also see the people who have shaped us; the friends, parents, and teachers who have all touched our lives. These events and people have each influenced us somehow by giving us memories to refer to or role models to follow when we find ourselves in similar situations. And we would not be the same without any one of these references, for references determine our personalities and our reactions to different environments. Let us look at these references, these events and people who have coloured our lives, and choose those that we believe have given us the best impressions and have had the most positive impact on us. Let us look at these events, and try to recapture the spirit that they brought to us. Let us look at these people, and try to live by the ideals that they lived by. And let us be inspired to improve on the legacy that these events and people have left, so that we can improve the world that we live in and make life just a bit easier for the people for whom we care. Robert Grossman Salutatorian In our lives, we set many goals for ourselves. Those which we achieve are the result of inspiration received from many sources. Inspiration can be defined as any influence that pushes us to do well. The sources of this may be people, things, or experiences. At one point or another, these outside forces act on each of us. Personally, I have been inspired by this school and by you, my peers. I hope that you too have been inspired by the same things. The motivation we received from the spirit at MHS enabled us to persevere during the hard times as well as enjoy the good ones. It has also allowed us to look toward the future by enabling us to set our sights on future goals; for I know that the inspiration I receive today will spark the formation of my plans for the years to come. I hope that all of you reach those goals that you have been inspired to set, both now and in the future. To all the members of the Class of '82, I wish you success, health, good fortune, and happiness in the years to come. Remember that an inspired person can reach his or her highest aspirations. 60 David J. William Harte, our Bill, died too soon, too suddenly, and too tragically on March 14, 1982. A void of immeasur- able size was left in the lives of his dear mother and father, his sister, his two brothers, and his friends. We, the members of his Signet family, who nagged Bill for our pictures always needed yesterday, who begged him for shots of freshmen, who pleaded that he get us candids of a variety of people ... miss him, thank him publicly for putting up with our constant requests, mourn his loss, and yes, weep openly at the fate that was his. As members of his Signet family, we dedicate this yearbook to the memory of the cheer- ful and ever-smiling young man who al- ways will be our Bill, Photography Edi- tor of Signet '82. 125 ACTIVITIES Signet Miss Jane Higgins Joanne Wood Amy Polak The task of planning, designing, and pro- ducing Signet '82 was an arduous yet fulfill- ing one for its editors and its chief advisor, Miss Higgins. They devoted afternoons, evenings, and vacations to perfecting the appearance of this yearbook by writing copy, cropping pictures, layout out pages, and carefully checking proofs. Signatures, inspiration, gators, noise, eating, team- work- each of these helped to ease the pressure of time-consuming labor and strict deadlines. All who were involved in Signet hope that their efforts have suc- ceeded in capturing highlights of the school year. 128 Sofia Neofitidis, Pamela Green Sharon Kwestel, David Schnabel Linda Kubat. The season began in August when the group attended Band Camp at Trenton State College. Under the direction of Mr. Earnhart, the instrumentalists, Rockettes, and flag twirlers diligently strove to perfect their music, marching, and maneuvering. They opened their season with a successful appear- ance at the Newsday-Hofstra University Marching Band Festival, an event well attended by enthusiastic MHS fans. The performers were awarded a First Prize Trophy in the Mineola Diamond Jubilee Parade, and they participated in three competitions in the metropolitan area. In October, they hosted the Long Island Marching Band Championships at Denton Avenue Stadium and placed second with a score of 64. Because of this excellent showing, they were invited to compete in the Eastern Seaboard Championships and attained twelfth place out of fifteen groups. The Band also took part in the Winter and Spring Concerts and the NYC Columbus Day Parade, and the drum section won a Percussion Award at the West Babylon Marching Tournament. By far their most outstanding accomplishment was performing at the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville and at Disneyworld, Florida. At the six scheduled meets, the students were challenged with questions spanning a range of topics. Each member contributed to the Math- letes' excellent record. 148 Photography Club Mineola students had the op- portunity to improve their pro- ficiency in taking and develop- ing pictures through their in- volvement in the Photography Club. Advised by Mr. Jaeger, the members worked with cameras, light meters, and lenses, and they learned how to prepare contact sheets and prints. This organization pro- vided practical experience and knowledge to MHS students in- terested in photography. BACK ROW: Mr. Jaeger- Advisor, H. Sutton, J. Muller, J. Sysak, B. Harte-President. G. The 1981 Football Team, coached by Mr. Weidlein, compiled a record of 2 wins, 4 losses, and 2 ties. Despite their undistinguished record, the players demonstrated admirable dedication and teamwork throughout the season. The Mustangs started off their season by tying the first two games against Stonybrook (12-12) and Hampton Bays (6-6). In the next game, they pulled ahead at the half to outscore Roslyn, 20-9. Perhaps the most memorable game of the season was Mineola's 12-6 defeat of the tough Great Neck North team in an evening game at Denton Avenue. Injuries sustained by senior Mike Philburn, junior Bryan Lynch, and sophomore Todd Kennedy caused a major setback to the team’s performance. The squad’s disappointing losses to Mercy-Riverhead, McBurney, Jericho, and Hewlett can be partially attributed to the absence of these valuable players. Although the team lacked experience on the whole, it was comprised of many outstanding indivi- duals. Defensively, the team was led by seniors Kevin Aikman with 115 tackles and Tom Scardino with 72. The offense was equally strong, as proven by junior quarterback Robert Lutz, who passed for a total of 887 yards this season. Junior Dennis Beresheim caught 23 passes, and senior Paul Eising was close behind with a total of 17. Seniors Paul Catalano. Mike Lee, Danny Lettis, Jim Pewarski. and Bill Vesely provided a great deal of spirit and drive, and they will be missed next season. Though they are losing many skilled teammates, the returning players have now gained experience and are determined to make next year’s season successful. Mustangs stop their opponents in their tracks. The Mustangs clear the path for a touchdown. Mineola’s defense makes a tackle. Dennis Beresheim overcomes an interception attempt. The 1981 Volleyball Team, under the guidance of Ms. Messina, once again has a very successful season with an outstanding record of 11-1. The members practiced for many hours in order to improve their bumping, setting, and spiking techniques. Easy victories early in the season made the squad a contender in a three-way deadlock for the division title. The deciding match against the tough Lynbrook team was a close one, but the Mineola girls rallied and eventually prevailed, clinching the first place position. The players suffered their only loss at the hands of South Side, the team which eventually defeated them in the playoffs. The Mineola squad was led by the superb spiking of Kathy Gallagher, the accurate setting of Linda Kubat, and overall ability of Barbara Jesberger and Lisa Lorusso. These players, along with the two other starters Pat Ockovic and Lisa Peterson, united to capture the division championship for the third straight year. The team was rounded out by seniors Eileen Eckhardt, Anne Bartscherer, Karen Kolsch, and Cindy LaRocca, and junior Mary Beth Fenick. The excellent individual play of Kathy Gallagher, Barbara Jesberger, and Lisa Lorusso qualified them to participate on the All-Conference Team. Because eight talented players are graduating, Coach Messina is relying on the expertise of the underclass- men to carry the team next year. Their goal is to defend the division title. 162 Linda Kubat excutes a set. Cindy Dowbak practices her accurate serve. Lisa Peterson awaits the return play. Soccer BACK ROW: Mr. Carboine- Coach. D. The Varsity Soccer Team, under the coaching of Mr. Carboine, had a final record of 6 wins and 12 losses and finished fifth in the competitive Division III B. The players started the season with a 5-2 victory over Wheatley and a 2-1 win against Great Neck South. Their first loss, at the hands of Carey, was indicative of the outcome of many of their remaining games. They were defeated in 9 of the next 12 games, but they snapped this streak by beating Hempstead 2-0. Other victories in 1981 included wins against Lynbrook and Roslyn. Two of the soccer stan- douts this year were All-Division Defensive Back Derrick Parson and two-time All-County Goalie Scott Sasso. These players, along with seniors Robert Sommer, Pat Tamayo, and Dan O'Connor, led the team in its successful efforts. With many returning underclassmen, Mr. Carboine feels that the team will maintain or improve its division standing next season. 164 Cross Country The 1981-82 Cross Country Track Team, under Mr. Malle’s guidance, was a small but strong squad. The boys com- peted in 5 kilometer distances, and the team’s record was held by sophomore Robert Kolsch at 19:19. The squad was led by veteran Captain John Kalabou- kas. Although slowed by injur- ies this year, he still achieved a time of 21 minutes and 33 sec- onds in this event. Many younger runners have shown an interest in Cross Country, and Mr. Malle expects next year’s larger, more exper- ienced squad to attain an even better record. R. Choy, R. Louissaint, J. Kalaboukas. R. Kolsch. Winter Track The Winter Track Team had not yet had an official league meet as Signet went to press. However, the members ran in pre-season scrimmages and gained confidence and valuable exper- ience. The team included several track stars and many diligent workers. Four- year veteran Brian Cox maintained the best overall team record. In the 300 meter run he attained a time of 39.7 seconds, and he was clocked at 1:35 for the 600. Mike McGay was another capable athlete whose record for the 300 meter dash was 43 seconds. He also ran the 600 meter event in 1:40, a commendable speed for a sophomore. The team’s coach, Mr. Malle, looks forward to next season since he trained a young, strong team in 1981- 82. BACK ROW: R. Kolsch. T. DiCiero. M. McGay. B. Cox. S. Mango. R. Choy, Mr. Malle- Coach. As Signet went to press, the Girls' Basketball Team, coached by Mr. Herman, had just gotten its season under way with a league record of 1-0. Although the members were few in number, they had advantages in speed and ball-handling skill. The starting lineup was comprised of center Kathy Gallagher, Lisa Lorusso and Cindy Dowbak as forwards, and Barbara Jesberger and Linda Lorusso in the guard position. Defensively, the team was strong and experienced, and the offense consisted of such precision shooters as Linda Lorusso and Cindy Dowbak. In the only league game of the season thus far, Barbara Jesberger scored 4 points in the last 16 seconds, carrying the Mustangs to victory over New Hyde Park. Ably replacing the starters were second string players senior Eileen Eck- hardt, juniors Veronica Bateman, Lorraine Eckhardt, and Marlena Hen- derson, and sophomore Vanessa Bateman. Since most of the starters are graduating, Coach Herman is looking for new recruits to replace these talented athletes. 16b Cindy Dowbak takes a foul shot. Barbara Jesberger scores two more points. With the help of their coach, Mr. Schmitt, the boys hoped to improve their unimpressive tally through hard work and practice. The season's opener was an away game against the tough New Hyde Park team. The Mustangs took an early lead but fell behind after the half and couldn’t regain control. Although they lost, 64-77, there was excellent overall play by several members. On the offense, junior Dennis Beresheim was the team's highest scorer, averaging 18 points per game. Other standouts includ- ed seniors Paul Eising, who played point guard, and Laurence Walsh, a versatile team member. Many good JV players are coming up the ranks, and Coach Schmitt expects a number of varsity players to return. Next year their goal is to earn a place in the playoffs. 168 169 Terry Tucker fakes out a Carey defender. Wrestling BACK ROW: J. Pewarski, D. O'Connor. FOURTH ROW: V. DiRusso, F. Inzerillo. B. In the grapplers' match against Hempstead, there were sev- eral individual standouts. Junior Co-captain Jerry Coiro ranked second in his division and placed first in the Hempstead com- petition for the second year in a row. His individual record stood at 9 wins and 1 loss. Another experienced matman, Ron Velez, placed second in the Hempstead Tournament and third at Herricks. Senior Co-captain Dan O'Connor provided further leadership with a 6-2 record and a third place ranking in the division. Good performances also came from seniors Vinny DiRusso, who is in the 177 lb. weight class, Frank Inzerillo at 145 lbs., and Jim Pewarski at 155 lbs. Since the underclass wrestlers have gained considerable experience in maneuvering and planning strategies, Mr. Guido looks forward to a promising season in 1983. 170 Jerry Coiro rides an opponent. The Girls' Bowling Team, under the supervision of Ms. Rush, was midway through its season as Signet went to press. The bowlers' record was 3 wins and 6 losses, putting them in fourth place in their division. In the squad’s best game, against Roslyn, the girls knocked down a total of 2079 pins. Another close and exciting match was the Mustangs' 1952-1945 victory over Great Neck South. Contributing to their successful season were the talents of Captain Lisa Wilczynski and junior Debbie Blakely. These two players were tied for the team high average of 125 points per game. Since the majority of the bowlers are freshmen, Ms. Rush expects that they will come back next year a stronger and more experienced team. 172 Boys’ Bowling BACK ROW: C. Hansen, K. Schmidt-Captain, L. As Signet went to press, the squad accumulated a combined record of 12 wins and 24 losses. Only one member of the team, senior Ken Schmidt, had previously seen varsity action. As captain, Ken led the squad with an average of 170 points per game. The next highest scorer was freshman Helmut Bohringer, averaging 148. Able support came from senior Chris Hansen and sophomores Tom Schmelke and Larry Schmidt. The bowlers' coach, Mr. Carboine, expects a successful season next year since many underclassmen and JV members are returning. Gymnastics Ms. Messina-Coach, J. Smith. C. Kennedy. K. Messner. K. Sabbeth. D. Donatelli, L. Schnitzer. J. Lagerman. D. Sarno. J. Numssen, L. Langer. 1982 was the first season for Mineola’s Girls' Gymnastics Team. The participants competed in four events—vaulting, uneven parallel bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. Each of these required concentration, endurance, flexibility, and dedi- cation. Ms. Messina took on the responsibility of training and coaching the squad which was comprised wholly of under- classmen. The team had just started its season as Signet went to press. The only scrimmage, against Great Neck South, resulted in a losing score, but the girls had strong individual performances. Although plagued by injuries, the squad managed to total 79.10 points overall. Chris Kennedy's high score of 4.0 on the beam and 5.8 in vaulting contributed to this admirable show- ing, as did Diana Sarno’s 4.9 in floor exercise. Linda Schnitzer proved to be a valuable member since she achieved 4.2 points on the uneven bars and attained MHS’ highest individual com- bined score. The valuable experience gained by the Girls' Gymnastics Team has made Coach Messina optimistic about next season. 174 Rifle BACK ROW: K. Schot, F. Ramos, C. Fernandes. Mr. Samuels- Coach. FRONT ROW: K. Kolsch, M. Merced. NOT PICTURED: C. Lesmeister-Captain. The sharpshooters’ season had just gotten under way as Signet went to press. They compiled a 1-1 record and looked forward to many exciting competitions. In the first match, Mineola outshot Roosevelt by a score of 1218- 793 but later suffered a close 1114-1276 defeat to Manhasset. Leader- ship for the team was provided by its captain, veteran shooter Cliff Lesmeister. The Rifle Team’s coach, Mr. Samuels, expects to do well next year since most of the marksmen are returning. 175 Baseball BACK ROW: J. Arndt, R. Fox, B. Catania, S. Lucke, M. White. L. Lubrano, S. The 1981 Baseball Team, coached by Mr. Terc, finished the year in fourth place with a record of 10 wins, 7 losses, and 1 tie. The first game of the season was a 5-5 tie against New Hyde Park. The Mustangs then lost to the competitive South Side team, 7-8, but they won the next four games in a row. Their successes were due in part to the contributions of All-Conference players Matt Dimakos and Dan O’Connor and All-Countyman Matt White. Other team standouts included Captain Ron Fox and infielder Matt Komorowski. With many good athletes coming up from the JV, Mr. Terc feels confident that Mineola will again be a strong contender in 1982. 176 Louis Lubrano steps up to the plate. Mr. Villani coached the members of the 1981 Softball Team to their first conference championship. The team’s final record was an impressive 16 wins and 3 losses. The first game was a disappointing loss against Roslyn, but the squad recovered and won the next eight consecutive games. During the season, Mineola scored a total of 95 runs, compared to their opponents' 50. The team’s first place finish in its division qualified the members for the playoffs where they competed against Freeport, a very tough team, and played 4 extra innings. In the 11th inning the score was tied, but the girls couldn’t keep Freeport from scoring. This 13-14 loss took Mineola out of the playoffs. The overall success of the team can be partially attributed to the individual accomplishments of four girls who made All-Division: senior Kathy Burns, short stop: senior Phyllis Doig, pitcher; junior Linda Kubat, second baseman; and senior Ellen Torrito, center fielder. With only 5 returning players, Coach Villani expects to rebuild the team in '82. Unda Kubat takes a good cut at the ball. Marianne Hacker makes a close play at third. Phyllis Doig fires another accurate pitch. Lacrosse BACK ROW: D Beresheim, T Braun. R. Lester, T. Scardino, J. Odnoha, R. Young-Coach. MIDDLE ROW: P. Welsh. A. Turley. J. Coiro. B. Stryjewski, R. The squad started off the season with a disappointing 9-12 loss to Freeport, but through a team effort they tightened up their game and routed Syosset, 8-3. The last match of the season was a close one, as the Mustangs regrouped after the half to edge Clarke by a score of 7-6. There were many fine players on the team, including tri-captains John Altoonian, Dan Pitcavage, and Phil Canzoneri. Phil proved to be a valuable team player whose strength as a midfielder contributed to his winning the All-Conference Award. Other standouts included high scoring junior Bob Sommer, senior attackman Joe Odnoha, and rookie Dennis Beresheim. The first doubles team consisted of Lorraine Sanders and Gretchen Viehmann. Their record of 6 wins and 10 losses, though good, was not sufficient to qualify them for the playoffs. Other hardworking members of the team included seniors Lisa Coleman and Sharon Kantrowitz. With most of the girls returning, Mr. Spacie hopes for a better record in the spring of 1982. The coaches attributed this excellent showing to the combined efforts of the many fine athletes on the team. Leading the squad with 62Vi points was senior Kenny Cox. Kenny broke numerous school and division records, and he was selected to compete in the conference and county championships. He attained first place in the high hurdles, qualifying him for the state championships as well. Eddison Bramble also set many school records, tallied up 49 points for the season, and qualified for the state meet by placing first in the 400 meter dash and the 400 meter intermediate hurdles. Another outstanding runner was Mike Wright, who accumulated 51 Vz points, the second best record on the team. Rounding out the squad were seniors Doug Reymann and Scott Holliday, juniors Brian Cox, John Sysak, and Bill Vesely, and sophomore Larry Busching. Since many of these individuals have graduated, Mr. Malle and Dr. Mecerod anticipate that 1982 will be a year for rebuilding the team. Eddison Bramble sprints to the finish. They also demonstrated their school spirit by putting up posters to motivate MHS sports teams to victory. Under the leadership of Captain Lorraine Ratcliffe, Co-captain Pattie Ciavarella, and advisor Ms. Finander, the squad began the long process of learning and perfecting new cheers at the NCA camp this summer. They continued practicing for many hours a week when school began, and their dedication paid off at the Brentwood Competition. The Varsity squad placed fifth out of 20 teams, and the JV girls came in first in their division. The Cheerleaders hosted the Third Annual Nassau Competition here at MHS, and this, along with candy sales, made up a large part of their fundraising activities. The highlight of the season was participating in the All Long Island Cheering Competition. With only three varsity members graduating and many spirited JV girls ready to take their places, the squad should be exceptional next year. Junior Varsity TOP ROW: J. Lagerman MIDDLE ROW: D. The Rockettes are Mineola’s championship kickline, whose energy and vitality have enlivened many of the high school’s events. Under the guidance of their advi- sor, Ms. Esposito, and their captains, Kelly Donovan and Laura Sinitsky, the girls learned and rehearsed dance routines for both marching and kickline appear- ances. The Rockettes attended camp last summer in conjunction with the Mustang Marching Band, and the two groups held practices during the year to prepare for performances at football and basketball games, pep rallies, and local parades. These dedicated stu- dents impressed audiences throughout their busy sea- son, which included a commendable performance at the Newsday Marching Band Festival, an Honorable Mention in the New York City Columbus Day Parade, and record-breaking scores at the Tournament of Bands Competition. On their own, the girls made a memorable showing at the 1981 Long Island Kickline Association Competition, and they hosted a contest here at Mineola as well. The Rockettes generated a great deal of spirit and enthusiasm in all their appear- ances this year. 188 Kelly Donovan- Captain, Laura Sinitsky- Captain. 189 Girls’ Week Girls’ Week, MHS’ annual interclass competition, is a unique blend of creativ- ity, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship. A great deal of artistry and originality goes into designing posters, floats, and costumes, and the girls use their talent in music and choreography in the entrance, song, cheering, and dance seg- ments of the evening. The participants in the Class of '82 consistently improved their scores and standings each year. As Frosh on the Move, they placed a disappointing fourth but gained valuable experience in the competition events. The girls displayed their energy as Sophs in the Wide World of Sports by attaining perfect scores in Entrance and Song and finishing second overall. In 1981, the Juniors in Love captured first place and again scored a perfect 25 in the Entrance and Song categories. As defending champs, the girls of the Class of '82 hope to remain victorious as seniors. r ---- ADVERTISING GREENBERG - BIELLO STUDIO Official Yearbook Photographers Also available for: • Weddings • Special Occasions • Family Group Portraits 31 Newtown Road • Plainview, New York 11803 • (516) 454-8011 Happiness Always and Forever! Zatto 231 Acknowledgements Producing Signet '82 has proven to be a time-consuming and chal- lenging labor, yet one which inspired unparalleled satisfaction in its editors. This book would not be complete without acknowledgements to several people who helped to make Signet a reality. First we, the editors, are especially grateful to our long-suffering advisor, Miss Jane Higgins, whose judicious patience has guided us through every step of the publishing process. Hard work, inspiration, generosity, sacrifice — all these were important aspects of Miss Hig- gins' work as chief advisor of fifteen editions of Signet. Also meriting commendation are Ms. Eliza Fisher and the Signet Business Staff, for soliciting ads and helping to finance this yearbook; Mr. Chet Smiley, our patient representative from the American Yearbook Company; Mr. Dave Greenberg and Mr. Bob Biello of Greenberg and Biello Studios, who fulfilled our photographic needs from supplying film to taking pictures to developing prints; The advertisers, boosters, staff members, and all the others who assisted in the production of this book. As editors of Signet, we sincerely hope that this yearbook will inspire pleasant and lasting memories for our peers in the Class of '82.
