SEATED: Dr. Raymond Ostrander (Superintendent of Schools), ING: Dr. Thomas Marshall (Administrative Assistant), Mr. John Mr. M. J. Rudner (Assistant Superintendent of Schools), STAND- Seiferth (Director of School-Community Relations). Administration The Administration of the Mineola Public Schools is directly responsible to the Board of Education. It is their duty to see that the policies of the Board are carried out in the proper manner. The Administration has taken a deep interest in our affairs and it is their aim to help the school system and the students as much as they can. Dr. Ostrander and his assistants are men who serve us unfailingly and who strive to give each student an opportunity for educational advancement. The Senior Class of Mineola High School wishes to thank the Administration for its fine leadership through our high school years. 7

Board of Education The Board of Education plans our passage through the school year. The Board, the policy making body of the school system, has the power to determine what courses shall be taught, how, when and where they are taught, and who are to teach them. Our local School Board governs School District 10 as set up by the state. Therefore, the members of our School Board are state, not municipal officials. The Board thus acts for the state in determining educational policies. The Board is the legislative and judicial body of our school system. It plans the school program for the year and judges such matters as may come before it. The Superintendent serves as advisor to the Board and carries out its decisions. There are three officers appointed by the board: a clerk who keeps the meetings,- a treasurer, who is the fiscal officer of the district; a counsel, who is the legal advisor and represents it in any disputes which may arise. Since members of the Board serve without pay, they deserve all the commendation the school and community can give them. SEATED: Dr. Ernest Michaelson, Joseph L. day, Mrs. Frederick A. Kothe, Vice Presi- Besosa, President. STANDING: Cyril Holli- dent; Walter H. Hock. 6

Mr. Levine Mr. Herbert Levine, acting prin- cipal of Mineola for the year 1959 -1960, has done a commendable job of keeping Mineola running smoothly. He is a serious, hard- working man who has given him- self whole heartedly to the better- ment of Mineola's students. Among Mr. Levine's interests are stamp collecting and boating. He enjoys listening to modern jazz al- though he confesses that he does not have too deep a knowledge of it. Mr. Levine is an enthusiastic ad- mirer of colonial restorations, and has spent many vacation days visiting New England towns and monuments. Mr. Knickerbocker Taking over Mr. Levine's former position as assistant principal is Mr. Robert Knickerbocker, once a mem- ber of the Citizenship Education Department and popularly known as Mr. Knick. Mr. Knickerbocker's six feet, three inches of height once made him a high school and col- lege athlete. Today he is an avid baseball and football fan. We who were in Mr. Knick's classes will always remember the stimulators which he devised to increase interest in Citizenship Edu- cation. This year Mr. Knick's main duties rest in the entire school body instead of a few C.E. classes. We feel that we are most fortunate in having Mr. Knick as one of our ad- ministrators. 8
