One glance tells the whole story. Minden is a growing city and the progress can be measured by the develop- ment of the schools. Minden's first public high school, established in 1897, occupied the buildings of the Minden Female College. ln 1907 the school was state-approved, and in 1910 a brick structure was completed, ample for all high school and elementary work. The next mile-stone of progress was the accrediting of the school by the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges in 1921, a standard consistently maintained since that date. The years immediately following consolidation of schools within the parish brought marked increased enrollment and required a new building designed for high school work only. By 1949 the attendance justified the erection of two separate elementary school buildings in different sec- tions of town, and in 1954 this modern high school structure was first occupied. 1954
