The parish fathers outgrew their quarters in the half-century-old courthouse, so now we have Junior this magnificent structure. Isn't it beautiful! And other changes have taken place- the old red school house where many of the school board and city-council members, themselves, went to school and which now serves as the High School is yielding its place on the campus to a modern, up-to-date structure. But the P. T. A. was not willing for the youths of '64 to be ignorant of this progress. The familiar old brick building has been molded in china, and now some 500 plates hang gaily on walls in the homes of students and alumni alike. Because . . . . of the wholesome atmosphere of the homes in Minden, the personalities of the students at M. H. S. are bright and glowing. Since the students spend most of their isne at school, only a very fine line can be drawn between school life and home training. Although only 452 students of the 483 enrolled are formally pictured here, the others, who were absent or have enrolled since photography days are pictured in other places throughout the book. Almost every student longs for the day when he can put aside his books and with diploma in hand, say good-bye to the halls of M. H. S. which for four years have been a pathway to his classes. New fads are constantly cropping up - planter ties, pastel leather jackets, buck and suede loafers, the short, short hair CIIIS, and picture-identification bracelets. Everybody looks forward to the Friday and Saturday night sessions at Hunter's Playhouse, where he can meet all the gang, and have choice of dancing, ping-pong, or just catching up on the latest gossip. H OMECOMING As soon as the Tide squad goes on the football field at the beginning of September, the lasses at Minden High begin to speculate on who will be the choices of the Senior lettermen for homecoming maids. For what girl doesn't dream of being a member of the football Homecoming Court! The gridiron guests for this colorful and elaborate event were the Ruston Bearcats. As the time drew nearer and nearer for that all- important October game, the list of maids was finally completed and the student body nominated and elected classic Marilynn Wat- kins as Queen Regent and Pat Wilson and Betty jean Davis as Princesses. These organizations help to mold the character of the student, enabling him to cope more adequately with the problems of the adult world. Believing that clubs are one rung on the ladder of success, the faculty insists that every student should take advantage of the opportunities offered through the many clubs of Minden High School. Organizations at M. H. S. are more than social outlets. The student who participates in such activities gains knowledge, a sense of responsibility and the ability to work with others. Though the organizations at Minden High are varied in character and purpose, no student is barred from membership in any of them. Urn unior Football The 1955 junior Grid team was composed of a large group of enthusiastic, although inexperienced. boys. These same boys will be the varsity squad in future years. Tribute should be paid to Mr. Miles, whose hard work and excellent coaching has pro- duced many varsity stars in the past. Several players are being counted on for next year's varsity team. Among these are Phillip Ford, Roy Baggett, Richard Yates, Jerry Day, and Bill Slay. Although the team record of 2 wins. 6 losses, and one tie was not too impressive, these boys showed great promise. These games were played against Sibley, Dubberly, Doyline, Springhill, Ruston, junction City, Jonesboro, Quitman, and Jena.
