The people we knew, the work we did, and the activities we en- joyed will be only pleasant memories. Seeing the campus buildings and walking through the halls for the last time bring back recollections of our four years at LHS. These unforgettable mem- ories are what we wish to present to you in our 1955 Aurora family album. ff ff, if? 1f5f X ! Otto BARRACKS . . . . steam heat DEDICATION We, the Senior Class of 1955, dedicate this Aurora to you, Mr. Block, for the help and guidance you have given us. During the three years that you have been at Lutheran High, you have broadened our knowledge of world history, given us a better insight into our American heritage, and explained to us the problems of our democracy. Also, as our class advisor for two years, you have been at the head of our class activities, aided us when we asked you for help, and given us Christian counsel and advice when we came to you with our problems. We sincerely appreciate your guidance as a teacher, but even more so as a friend and companion. We'll never forget it. May God bless you always. 5 , F4 - ' - W... 'WTR Rad ' PRINCIPAL Mr. Eggold, our principal, has been at Lutheran High for six years. God has richly blessed Lutheran under his guidance. Evi- dences of this are our large enrollment, the generous donations given to our school, and the excellent reputation of our alumni. In his devotions, Mr. Eggold has instructed us according to God's Word. We have been taught to be good stewards and to let our faith be an example to the rest of the world. As we leave the protecting walls of Lutheran High behind us, we will always thank God for giving us leaders like Mr. Eggold. May God bless him in his future efforts. 8 VICE-PRINCIPAL Already in our freshman year we became acquainted with Mr. Ernst, our vice-principal. In his guidance lectures he gave us fatherly advice about our conduct at school and in our daily lives. He helped us choose vocations and encouraged those of us with the ability, to prepare for college. We were welcome to come to him at any time with our prob- lerns, and he listened to us patiently and gave us good counsel. We give him sincere thanks, and it is our prayer that God will con- tinue to give him the wisdom needed for his work. They have a willing ear to bear our problems and a smzle to encourage ux BOARD OF DIRECTORS Slunding: Mr. W. Hameier, Mr. A. Rowold, Mr. L. Siellwagen, Mr. E. Feusfel, Rev. A. Tacke, Mr. C. Individually and as a group you have been a credit to the cause of Christian education. Your daily lives proved the sincerity of your faith in Christ. You have done much to in- crease the school spirit of your alma mater. By word and example you have taught the underclassmen the meaning of loyalty, cheerfulness, cooperation, and faithfulness. We shall miss you very much. Lutheran High School has contributed much to your mental, emotional, physi- cal, social, and spiritual development. Through the school's instructional program you have acquired the knowledge and skills basic to success in our modern world. For these gifts you are sincerely grateful. We hope that the remembrance of these blessings will in the future inspire you to promote and support the vitally important cause of Christian high school education. As we bid farewell to you we do so with the prayer that God would keep you faithful disciples of His Son and crown your lives with His choicest blessings. E. F. The presidents of each class are also members. Each English class sends a representative to the meetings to advise the Student Council of the wishes of the students. The activities of the Student Council include the following: selling tickets for football and basketball games, the Christmas and Spring Concerts, and skating partiesg inspecting lockersg and operating the lost and found department and the student court. The Council also is the official representative of Lutheran High. 4 The Student Council officers are jack Schumacher, presidentg Clarence Hartwig, vice-presi- dentg Barbara Bagin, secretaryg Renee Soliday, treasurer. Bublitz Stay? mixes husiness with pleasure Mr. Sitz approves Aurora subscription taclicx As soon as school started in September, Bernie Propp, editor, began handing out assignments to her staff, and things got rolling on the 1955 Aurora. The theme of the Patron Drive was a circus, and the goal was set at S3,000. As donations came in, the staff also sold I..H.S. bracelets and popcorn to help H11 the coffers. As an additional stunt, the idea of having a Snow Queen was suggested. For each dollar brought in, a senior could have one vote for his favorite candidate. As a result of this drive, pretty Bette Bleich was crowned LHS Snow Queen at the impres- sive ceremony at the Racine-LHS basketball game. With the needed funds now on hand, We struggled to meet the necessary deadlines and the copy was turned in. The layout began to take on a definite pattern as it was built around our theme. The subscription drive, which was held in February, carried out a patriotic Civil War theme. The last pictures were pasted up and the final copy proofread and typed. Everyone heaved a sigh of relief as the last pages were sent to the printer. AVR X 4 All Hail l U The Hu-oe Comefh Aurora, behind the scenes Two beads are better than one COMMENTATOR Advisor: C. H. SITZ Editors glout over finished product. Town Crier Members lend their talents to laying out the front page. Hooray! Commentators today! It's that special day to which everyone looks forward, but few of us realize the work that goes into having the school paper published every month. After the schedule is prepared, assign- ments are handed out and work begins. When the work is completed, the department editors rewrite any parts that require attention. The editor-in-chief sets the articles in columns, and the material is read by Mr. Sitz and Mr. Eggold. The copy is now pasted up and sent to the printer, who returns in within five days. Pictures that appear in the Commentator are taken by staff photographers. A serial was a new feature of the paper this year, and the staff also introduced the daily Noontime Newsf, Members visited the Layton Art Gallery, and a Christmas party was held for the editors. At the annual banquet in the spring, Quill and Scroll awards were presented to the mem- bers who had earned them. 80 Too many cooles don't spoil the hroth in this case Editor-in-Chief . KELLING The History Club under the guidance of its original advisor, Mr. Roland Kelling, once again carried a heavy schedule of activities. Only sen- iors are eligible for membership in this club, the largest organization at Lutheran High School. The second and fourth Monday evenings of each month were again set aside for the meetings. Students saw slides and movies and heard lectures on various historical subjects. Two trips were taken to give all the members an opportunity to travel to historical parts of the country. The fall trip took in Prairie du Chien and a part of Iowa. Washington, D.C. was the destination of the group that took the more in- clusive spring trip. Appearances at various churches, numerous variety shows, the Schoolmasters Club, and Con- cordia College PTA iill out a busy schedule. The fruits of the labors of the band were evident by the high spirits of students and the teams at the football and basketball games. Outweighed and outmanned, our Knights put up a terrific battle against Country Day, but it was not quite enough as we bowed to the co- champs, 13-7. Coming right back the following week, we really put on the steam as we ran over Racine Lutheran, 42-13, to top off our homecoming festivities. Threatening often, but scoring only twice, which was sufficient for our fourth victory, we blanked Northwestern, 12-0. Things looked great as our Knights started out in fine style by winning five of their six non-conference games. In con- ference play, our Knights split even before the Christmas holidays, 1-1. After the holidays and three more games, the record showed two wins and three losses. Victories over Wayland, Racine, and Country Day put us back in the running with a 5-3 record. MUS' fast pace left us with a 5-4 record and a tie for third place. Our Knights defeat- ed the three top teams in the last games of the season. The deciding game against Wayland proved a close fight all the way, giving us the victory, 56-55, and a tie for the championship. Fine teamwork and good sportsman- ship were always evident with our Knights out on the floor. Fast break- ing and sharp shooting gave the close, important games to our Co-Champs. Two outstanding Knights were coaches' choices for the ALL-CON- FERENCE TEAMS. Fritz Ziehm, the only unanimous choice, landed a forward position on the first team, and Earl Dethloff held down another forward berth on the second team.
