I v ' l.f.,f,Q. ,' ' ' 'l our dlarw In the early days of September 1936 a nervous chattermg group of fresh men began 1ts career at L H S the upper classmen eyed the group 1n terestedly wondermg what the years crop of newcomers would bnng forth the class cons1sted of the usual mrxture of gcuety and sobrrety a grades of mtellrgence and an eagerness to see what th1s new world of school hte held It drd not take them long to become acquamted and get 1nto the customs and umque comradeshrp of Lutheran I-hgh they began thexr days w1th Engl1sh and algebra ended them wlth ar1thmet1c and sclence 1ust as many other classes had before them In the tour years that make up a hrgh school educatron th1s class has set 1ts mark on the pages of L H S hrstory 1t has produced athletes scholars and many frxends worth keepmg as freshmen both the boys and g1IlS won only one game 1n the volleyball senes yet that 1S a notable fact for f1rst year players as sophomores the g1rls won the volleyball Cham p1onsh1p the g1rls held th1s champronshrp undefeated dur1ng therr whole career they placed second 1n basketball as sophomores but nelther boys nor g1rls drd better than was expected 1n fleldball 1n thelr 1un1or year both boys and g1rls were basketball champlons g1rls took the bad mmton and plng pong champ1onsh1ps the runner ups 1n both cases were also from th1s class In the sophomore year three boys and one g1rl were members of the vars1ty th1s year One member of lh1S class was edxtor ln chxef of our school paper 1n her junror year another 1n h1s senror year the class also publrshed and ed1ted th1s 1940 Aurora and 1n the four years of 1ts school lrfe has belonged to many clubs and organ1zat1ons such as the chorus band orchestra archery math and chemrstry clubs and every other such organrzatron open to them The class has taken part 1n act1v1t1es for soc1al enyoyment two slergh nde partres many skat1ng partres and a tradmonal Hallowe en party rn addl t1on to these 1t bade farwell to the class of 39 wrth a program and lunch also showed them a good t1me Wlth a p1cn1c In the classroom they tr1ed the1r sk1ll rn presentlng a Shakespearean drama broadcastmg a rad1o program over a mrcrophone debat1ng wr1t1ng news papers themes and even sonnets Yes the class of 1940 has thoroughly enyoyed 1ts seemmgly br1ef stay at L I-I S 1t shall always remember 1ts school days wrth a lmger1ng regret that they could not have lasted forever the class shall m1ss 1IS fellow students and teachers the bu11d1ng and the grounds on whrch rt stands the trees under wh1ch the students ate therr lunches the tennrs courts whrch were never burlt and the extra penods spent rn the detentron room t4l C Y U 0 0 0 I 1 ' .t . .
