At the executive board meeting in 1908, Silas W. Bond, Presi- dent of Houghton Seminary, was commissioned to visit churches of the western conferences to encourage them to unite in a church- supported school. There had been several small, locally supported schools, but they had closed. Due largely to the efforts of Rev. H. S. Abbott, President of the Kansas Conference, the site at Miltonvale was located. Twenty acres of land for a campus and conference camp ground were offered by the Tootle estate, and the town pledged $12,000 toward the con- struction of the first building. The Administration Building was more or less ready by Septem- ber, 1909. A three-story brick structure, the building had its own water system, pressure supplied by a windmill south-east of the school. The building was lighted by acetylene. Through the next few years many improvements were made. City water and electricity were installed, many trees were planted, including the distinctive cedars. New walks were laid, the remainder of the basement excavated. Abbott Hall, gift of the Kansas Con- ference W.M.S., was built in 1914. Through the years the administration has added to the campus by purchasing houses near the school to be used as dormitories or rentals. During the late 1940 ' s an annex was constructed, housing the music studios, library, and classrooms. The Inn, for snacks and school supplies, quickly became the campus social center. The girls moved into their new dormitory, and the boys into Abbott Hall. In 1952 the gymnasium was ready for use. A large new athletic field, tennis courts, and picnic area were added. Then in 1956 the F.C. Hill Memorial Church was dedicated. A studied program of landscaping and planting, with the healthy growth of grass, trees, and shrubs, has made the campus a beautiful, park-like area. Administration Building, 1909

Ws4k JK0 LA pride and great joy. we proclaim the Fiftieth nniversan I Miltonvale Wesleyan College. As time marches on. these fifty golden years of the history of M. W. C. become more precious to the individuals that have been a part of this great institution. Miltonvale Wesleyan College was founded to provide a Christian education in a Christian atmosphere and to prepare workers for the work of the Lord. At the very core of life at M. W. C. stands Christ, who daily loadeth us with benefits. The spirit of M. W. C. has urged us to look up — up to our Heavenly Father, to values of eternal importance, to a Savior, Guide, and Friend. Woven into the fabric of the school are the threads of consistency, effici- ency, patience, and devotion as found in the lives of our faculty and staff. Numberless are the memories that have made the days at Miltonvale College the best years of our life. We shall never forget the beauty of the campus as it changed with the seasons, the social life with its gaiety, the fun and sometimes frustration, and cramming for exams un- til the wee hours of the morning. Then. too. we remember the people we met. the friendships made, the experiences we shared, the great spiritual victories that were won. all of which made us better persons and prepared us to better meet future problems. Miltonvale College has rendered many services through the years. From her halls have gone three thousand twenty-one voung people. Many of these are serving as denominational officers, college presidents, pastors, teachers, and doctors; others are Christian laymen in var- ious places of service. All of these can point back to M. W. C. and recall that they received the highest in academic preparation with the highest in spiritual attainment. Along with the bar- vest of these services has come the necessity of a new vision, consecrated men and the ded- ication of time and finances. Christ has been our help in ages past; He is the hope of years to come. Let us, by His help, endeavor to continue to accomplish the divinely organized mission as it moves forward in the next half-centur . Students anft iaff
