Through the Years Since recorded factual material concerning the history of our school is apparently unavailable, we have tried to re- cord in this annual all the information we could get from old timers around the community Milton County was laid out in 1856 and was formed from parts of Forsyth Cherokee and Gwinnett Counties 'lhe first school in the com munity was held in a log house back of the pre sent Methodist Church A new building was occupied in 1872 The County Board of Education and the Masons had erected a two story wooden building which would now be ,ust east of Dr Morris Clinic Mr W Gardner father of Misses Lee and Nannre Gardner was the first principal of this Alpha retta Academy 02 Mr NicCullough was principal and had the boys to practice football He had played in college and while l did not organize a team here he created much in terest in this sport The next year 1905 there was an addition to the building making a total of five classrooms The first graduating class of Niilton County High School was in 1922 the year the main build ing of our present plant was completed Two per sons graduated and the faculty consisted of six teachers and Klr VL H Harrison principal We became a member of the Fulton County School system in 1932 when Milton County merged with 1'ulton Nlr H R Adams then principal continued to serve us until his retirement in 1949 Agriculture and Home Economics were added to our program and plant in 1932 The Commercial Department was added in 1948 'Sir Vic Hansard our principal since 1949 has also been involved in many changes in our school Other departments have been added and we now have Art Niusic Band Shop Physical Education and a much wished for athletic pro gram We have undergone several extensive build ing progra s and the present plant while still bursting t the seams compares favorably with the best in serving our needs and interests L it h h s BS SIUtlCflIS V 1 1 1 , . , .... . - 4 . - . . . HANSARD Principal MISS RUTH HIGGINS Assistant Principal Counselor FACULTY To the accompaniment of music by the new band and chorus, the cheers for a newly outfitted championship football team, and the shouts of basketball teams bounding into a new gymnasium, Mr. Hansard and our faculty have given us a smoothly running organization here at Milton High for another year. Each year has brought additional teachers and building changes to our school to care for our expanding curriculum and student body. Yet the wheels still turn smoothly under the capable leadership of our principal, Mr. Hansard. Miss Higgins, as our assistant principal and counselor, helps to grease these wheels with her constant assis- tance to faculty and stu- dents alike. Under this capable com- bination of administra- tion and faculty, the student feels that he is moving - that he is part of a well-organized plan. was '7'f svx
