The centennial birthday of this event, to be held in Philadelphia -- its birthplace -- is to extend for a full year and will be at its peak at the time of your graduation. Though this centennial celebration marks the most important date along the road of education, there is no greater milestone than your graduation date along the road toward your future education and success in life. I congratulate the Class of 1957 for achieving this milestone at Milton High School. It indicates that quality of optimism and stick-to-itiveness which are so essential for a successful and happy life. I am confident that, with your ability and the training you have received from your loyal, patient and inspiring teachers -- several of whom saw you enter the first grade here, September, 1945, —you will be able to surmount the obstacles of life as the Clipper from which this annual is named was able to mount the high waves at sea. Your Class Motto: “With the ropes of the past. We will ring the bells of the future”, is a challenge. Seniors, I congratulate you and may good fortune, happiness, and the blessings of God be yours as you go forth to achieve greater accomplishments “of the future”. CLASS HISTORY 1953-1954 At last ! Here we were, twenty-seven strong, entering our first day as freshmen in senior high school. Entering high school was like being on the first rung of a long ladder, and beginning a climb which would prepare us for our future years in life. Our class, under the guidance of our homeroom teacher. Miss Mary Pizzadili, embarked upon this journey with great success by being well represented in all activities of high school, such as sports, clubs, music, etc. In our sophomore year, we began to feel more at ease and to take the re- sponsibilities of high school in our stride. Money-making projects were begun to aid in supplying funds for our future years as juniors and seniors. We really felt important because members of our class were on the first string teams in sports, and were taking their places as leaders in all school activities. Just one rung from the top, we as juniors were looking forward to a year filled with fun and excitement, along with hard work. Our Junior Revue”, under the supervision of Mrs. Wilma Chambers and Mr. Lemuel Evans, started the ball of successful events rolling. Although the Revue” required much time and hard work by all, it was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone because it was some- thing different, and we were proud to be the originators of it. The year was happily brought to an end by the long-awaited Junior-Senior Prom. The last- minute decorating, making sure everything was in place, and praying for a perfect night with no mishaps, will be included in the fond memories of our prom. Now we are seniors, impossible though it seems, having reached the last and final rung of the ladder which will lead us each to our destinies and careers of life. The yearbook and “Senior Revue” were the outstanding accomplish- ments of the first half of our year as seniors. After Christmas and the Christmas Dance, we conducted several more money-making projects to increase the funds for our senior trip in the spring. The climax of this hectic and final year will be graduation in June. Twenty- four from a class that once numbered fifty-two wiU receive our diplomas, having completed the first plateau of life, only to face a higher and more difficult one where we must seek our places, and fulfill the ambitions that we have been preparing for during the past twelve years. 1954-1955 1955-1956 1956-1957 SENIORS IN ACTION i W V WILLIAM WAG A MON President WILMETTA BUSHEY Secretary GEORGE MITCHELL Vice-President DAVID BUSHEY JOYCE JOHNSON NANCY DUTTON Treasurer WILLIAM LEGATES NANCY ADAMS LORA WILSON ANNA MAE WILLEY EUGENE MILLMAN JOHN KLINGEL RODNEY WARRINGTON JESSE HARRIS A WORD TO OUR JUNIORS You have now reached the top step of a flight of twelve. Your years thus far spent were to prepare you for this important year. You will always have the.junior prom to remember but you will have two still more important events to look forward to, your senior trip, and graduation night. So is it now, so will it be through the years with still other goals to reach. Therefore, your senior year is just the beginning, with your whole life to look forward to. — . BASKETBALL ’56 - ’57 The Milton Warriors were frequent visitors to the win column this year. Their record to date stands at 4 wins and 5 losses. The Warriors overcame Rehoboth for their first victory of the season. This was the first time Milton has beaten Rehoboth in basketball to the recollection of old timers. Another traditional Warrior Rival, Harrington bowed twice in the '57 campaign. In the second match, Harrington fought hard and held a small lead until the final seconds. Bill Wagamon’s foul shots nabbed the tilt for M. H. S. in the closing sec- onds. Jerry Reynolds, high-scoring center, secured 25 points for the home team in this game. The Warriors with Coach Guest, will face the '58 season minus senior stars, Jerry Reynolds, Richard Howell, Ronald Mitchell, and Richard Millman. As the basketball period continues, the Warriorettes steadily improved and met their opponents with healthy competition. The 11 member team, under the patient guidance of Coach Sauer, has exhibited determination to win in game after game. Phyllis Millman, high-scoring forward, and Donna Betts, fighting guard, co- captained this aggresive aggregation. Forwards Doris Clifton and Ethel Connard were evidence to some good shoot- ing. Guards Barbara Pettyjohn, Wilmetta Bushey, and Nancy Millman did yeoman's duty for the second consecutive year. Milton High's '58 opponents can expect serious competition from Eleanor Clifton, Joyce Goodwin, Lilliam, and Louise Manship as they gain experience. Graduation will remove Donna Betts, Doris Clifton, Phyllis Millman, and Barbara Pettyjohn. Nevertheless, the Milton Warriorettes will face the '57-'58 season with earned confidence and experience.
