Clas s Prophecy A number of years after graduat1on we f1nd on a l1ttle Jaunt around the Un1ted States a number of our old classmates go1ng about the1r everyday l1V6S uncon cerned about the rest of the1r old pals 5tart1ng at one end of th1s vast country we f1nd ourselves 1n Cal1forn1a and of all places at a naval base A few m1nutes r1de from the base we flnd why of course' It's the former Donna Coward bus1ly at work stra1ghten1ng the 2 by 4 a partment for the arrlval of her sa1lor husband S1nce ve ry few people know that Nutts are grow1ng 1n Colorado we w1ll sp1n to a small suburb of Denver and say a breezy H1 to Mrs John C Nutt M D who am1dst all her patlents tr1es to keep tabs on all the l1ttle Nutts around the yard And of course Phyll1s IS plenty busy now Com1ng farther east we stop at a small country school for a few m1nutes and much to our surprlse there 1B a fam1l1ar face beh1nd the teacher's desk We all greet Beverly Baker who has real1zed her amb1t1ons as a teacher and resume our Journey homeward Suddenly there looms up ahead a road block and off to the s1de of the road we see there has been an acc1dent We follow the process1on onward to Omaha and stop on the outsk1rts of that c1ty What's that? 9 Why yes that Slgn says Z1hlman Funeral Home Of course we'll have to stop and g1Ve Frances our best regards Turn1ng our attent1on to warmer cl1mates we are Texas bound' The newest mult1 m1ll1ona1re 1n th1s great South 1S of thmgs' A WOMAN' As we stop at the far stretchmg expanse of h1lls and hollers we see galloplng toward us astr1de one of her pr1ze beaut1es of the horse world Carolee W1nsell After a short stroll around the corrals we take agam to the road and speed through the com1ng dusk We stop at a roads1de d1ner for a b1te and not1ce the huge d1esel traller parked Just outslde the entrance Prlnted across the length of the truck 1n large bold letter are the words YOUNKER'S TRANS CONTINENTAL FREIGHT SPRVICE We enter and encounter Ph1l Younker who f1llS our super hour wlth h1S exc1t1ng ad Veer1ng north once more we enter Tulsa Oklahoma a great o1l town Spy1ng great derr1cks all around we real1ze the s1gn1f1cance but we would never connect lt wlth the name Overstreet But there he s1ts, beh1nd the large desk, 1n a plush UIf1C6 try1ng to flgure out the p1le of myst1fy1ng papers before h1m As he pro v1des for another 500 O00 gallons of o1l to be sent to h1s father 1n law 1n M1ltOH who 1S 1n the heat1ng and plumb1ng bus1ness the great mahogany door Opens and Lou1se Snodgrass enters to present h1m w1th another stack of those terr1ble papers NOt1C1Dg the gas gauge reg1ster1ng shghtly empty we pull 1nto the f1rst gas stat1on we see after leav1ng Tulsa TEXACO' ' Now that r1ngs a bell' ' The name R1chard Hall comes to me Why' There he 1S now wa1t1ng for us to pull 1nto the dr1ve he can f1ll our tank w1th h1s wonderful atom1c gasollne In lll1no1s we f1nd two of our old classmates Wh1le attend1ng one of the lll1no1s Iowa football games Lee Holsapple stands talk1ng w1th George Kayser who 1S now the coach of Il11no1s Lee 1S explamlng why he left Iowa and returned to the state of staunch Democrats Iova was too full of Repubhcans to su1t h1m F1nally as a cl1max to our Journey we d6C1de to v1s1t the Capltal of the Un1ted States where we know we'll f1nd Larry Swann as an F B I agent At the pre sent t1me he 1S out on a case and we cannot reach h1m Wh1le here at Washlngton I shall P1Ck up my d1scharge wh1ch IS now awaltlng me After my last 30 day furlough from the W A F 's I shall return to M1lton where my husband has been keep1ng the home f1res and the washlng mach1ne go1ng Tw ns you know Cheerlo' Vada Younker 12.
