In September, 1920, the old school bell, that had rung since '85 brought quiet to the sclhool and twenty-three small and verdant Freshmen niarched into the assembly in full array. They all had a stern look on their faces, determined to nialw every one look to them and they silcccrclvrl, not only because they had unusual talent, but also because they had more pep than any class that had ever entered the Milo High Sc-hool. They headed the school in social activities, organizing their class at the beginning of the year fa very unusual event for Fl'9SIlll16llJ and led all the other classes in the number of parties. 'Dhey brought out their strength in athletics, where six of their members showed skill in baseball, several being on tlhe first team. They had the honor of contributing one of their members, Teddy Wilbur, to the first team as a. star player. The tlrst declamatory contest, held in Milo, had for one of its contestants a member of this class, Lowell Quiggle, who won first in the Orlatorical division. Leaving none behind, they passed into tihe Sophmore year in 1921. But some weakened and fell by the wayside, leaving only fifteen to carry on the record of the class. Again they scored in baseball, giving Milo High a team full of pep, several players being inembers of this class. A melnbei' of this class, Viola Allsup, also carried off honors in track, winning everytihing she took part in. They kept up their record for social activities, bringing organization and social events into the fore- ground. ce ceee THE SKY-ROCKET w ee oe honor of having iirst place taken in Oratorical and second place in Humorous by two of its membexs. Lowell Quiggle again won in the District Declamatory contest leading to the County Contest. 'Ilhe Sophmore year ended in triumph and we again took up the struggle in 1922. We now number only thirteen, several having dropped out and two new members joining us ai. the first of the year, Rosa Glasgow and Loota Carpenter, Leoia leaving us at the beginning of the second semester. The Junior Class is the peppiest class in the school. Out of our number three contestants were furnished for deelamatory work, one of these, Lowell Quiggle, winning the honor of working forward to thc State Contest. Out of the tlhirteen in the class, nine are in the Glee Club and three are in the Hiigh School orchestra., thus exceed- ing all other classes in proportion. Our average grade in school work is higher than either Seniors. Sophmores or Freshmen. Oin Decenrber 22, 1922 we purchased a picture for the assembly room, The Birch Bend, :by Dunning, the famous Iowa artist, thus showing our loyalty to Iowa, a.nd to our school. Four members of the surviving thirteen in the class started their school career in the first grade of Mi.lo High School, namely Raymond Jacobs, Geraldine and Gerald Ferguson, and Hazel Estes. Three of these, Gerald, Geraldine and Hazel having entered every grade to the present one together. We have the honor of having for members the only twins in school, Gerald and Geraldine Ferguson. Although our nu:mber is small, we make up in quality what we lack in quantity. Great oaks from small at-on-ns grow, and future years will see the shield of the class Qf '24 ihanging in the halls of fame if our past record may be regarded as an omen of what we are yet to do. .
