The Japanese struck- -they killed--they shattered our very rlives. Tyey' spared nothing and showed no mercy. 2 s After that historic day our chaotic hearts and minds were ,filled with a Kind of revenge--a revenge that would bring. protection and peace--a revenge to destroy--yes, to destroy those heartless creatures. I We all vowed to get revenge. And to get ,it we are all making preparations and sacrifices--we're even giving the Llives of those dear to us. We're Nbuilding more stately mansions' so that when we grad- uate, we will be ready to do our share, to fulfill our obli- gationss' Q ' - what are the foundations of these Wstately mansionsn we are striving to build? They are the extra studying and prep- arations. They are the efforts we are putting forth each day towards high morale in school. 4 . Our schools are offering new courses as preparation for what lies ahead of us. One of these preparatory courses is pre-flight aviationa This course, if you are planning to Join the air-force is' very essential. It gives 'specific training in meteorology, air-regulation, navagation, identi- fication, and other matters related to flying. Pre-induction math is another war time course 'which prepares boys for various fields in the service. Many boys and girls in our many fighting forces today are turned down from special jobs because they do not have the proper train- ing in certain subjects. It might be just one subject or several, but it means much towards the part we may play in this war. s v The United States Nurse Cadet Corps is another valuable opportunity. This isn't given in school, but the preparatory subjects needed to take this course are given. The United States Nurse Cadet Corps offers invaluable training for any

After all, Wall work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.W But we are not living in normal times. Every individual, whether in school or out, should be doing his utmost to help the war effort. Too many of us, here in school, place the blame for occasional indifference to school and the result- ing restlessness upon the war. One after another takes advantage of this excuse--especially students in the class room. Boys being drafted or planning to enlist does cause restlessness among other classmates who are then inclined to think, W0h what's the use?W Take, for instance, that day in school when your teacher gives a longer-than-usual lesson: until that glorious you don't take your book home as the movies are better than average. Thus the book stays in your desk unused.i The next morning you again take your book to the study period, but you really needed more time. You arrive in class and take the test and by some miracle you pass. But this won't hold true .every time.y Your work slowly but surely begins to degrade, and soon you donft care if you bring up your rank or not, ' What if all our fighting boys felt this way, that they didn't care if they lost or not?d But they do care: they feel revengeful if they lose something and want to bring that loss back to a gain. They strive harder and harder goal is theirs. Well that is how we students need to feel if we want to wing wegve got to settle down to more work and less play.
