Led by head Coach Leodies Robinson assisted by Coach Carl Kellehan the squad developed with the addition of many first year players. The highlight of the season was the first homecoming game, accompanied by activities including the crowning of Miss Roberta McCray as Football Queen and a dance in honor of the players after the game. The Falcon games were dotted throughout the state ranging from Snyder to the Ponca Military Academy. Basketball season began in November and ended in February. Coach Jesse Thomason and the team spent many winter afternoons preparing for their tough sched- ule. The team played games as far away as Washington and as close to home as Heritage Hall with as much spirit as a team with professional experience. The most outstanding senior players on the team were Louie Diaz and Charles Evans. Their scoring and re- bounding were essential to the team throughout the season. The team won nine and lost fourteen games through the very difficult season. Coach Thomason expects the team to prosper as the juniors and sophomores gain experience. STANDING from left to right are Coach Thomason, Diaz, Juergens, Mewborn, C. Evans. Benefee. Lesley. KNEELING from left to right are Peoples. J. Cunningham, Hill, Davis, Goodman, D. Ladies Add Style COACH AL JONES The birth of a new High School at Millwood brought with it new ad- ventures in athletics. One such adventure was girls varsity basketball. At the outset, there were 29 girls who reported for practice, but by the time competition began there were 16 girls wearing the red, white, and blue. After losing the first game of the season the Falconettes celebrated their birth by winning the first home game ever played at Millwood. By the completion of the premier season the girls had suffered their growing pains. They finished the season with a record of 4 wins and 16 losses. However there are some bright spots such as 13 returning lettermen for the 72-73 season. This year’s Best Defensive” player, Cassandra Russell, Best Offensive” player. Vickie Hodge, and Most Inspirational,” Janet Evans are among the returnees. Other lettermen are: Mary Ann Moore, Yvonnie McCray, Debra Ponder, Darlene Sherrill, Ava Foreman. Rosetta Mathiews, Gloria Barrientez, Saron Breshers, Angelia Johnson, and Latonya Hutton. TOP ROW from left to right are Maryan Edmonds, Karen Goodman, Mary Ann Moore, Debra Ponders, Yvonnie McCray, Vickie Hodge, Ava Foreman, Sharon Breshers, Angela Johnson, Rosetta Mathews. Coach Cleo McGlory displays an intense expression during a match. Behind the Falcon matmen this year was NCAA and Big Eight Con- ference Champ, Coach Cleo McGlory. Sharing his knowledge with the Falcon men, Millwood came out with a successful wrestling season that the Falcons will always be proud of. Working hard getting its “11 together for the first big match, wrestlers ran five miles a day, worked out on weights and did strenuous exercises to get themselves prepared. It was well worth the effort when the Falcons confronted Choctaw and floored them with a 27-27 tie. Other victories were over Douglass 46-18, Casady 32-12 and Geary 37-21. Outstanding wrestlers for the season were Allen Steele, Keith Russell and Demeitrus Williams. These young men and many others made great contributions to the team with their many victories. John Cottom puts together a pinning combination. Demeitrus Williams (on top) is shown in action just before he pinned a Douglas opponent. Hiram Smith displays his form on the side horse during a rigorous workout. Doyle Amey takes his turn on the side horse. Developing coordination and agility are the primary goals of the Falcon Gymnastics Team. Under the supervision of Coach A1 Jones students from all grades learn these skills. They also learn to be extra careful on the gymnastics equipment that can prove to be very dangerous to the inexperienced. The parallel bars, horizontal bars, side horse and rings are a few of the events that team members compete in with schools from the Oklahoma City area. 26 Freshman Basketball Has Power Taking off into the air is Darryl Jones making two points for Freshmen. Louis Diaz makes two for seniors but not enough to win. This page sponsored by MILLWOOD BOOSTER CLUB Standing are Coach Robinson, Dillahunty, Barrientez, Jones, Hughes, Kabelitz, Cheadle, Carson. Kneeling are Erdoes, Car ruthers, Berger, Peoples, Krone, Bruce, Cunningham. The 9th grade basketball team, coached by Mr. Leodies Robinson had a good season this year. They won 20 of 24 games. During the last two years the team has won 41 of 48 games. “This outstanding goal should be attributed to the length of time the team has been playing together and their willingness to work hard,” said Coach Robinson. The highlight of the season came when the Freshman team soundly defeated a team composed of Millwood Seniors in an intramural game. 27 George Benefee hits a homer during practice. Baseball Malcolm Platt scoops up a grounder during an afternoon workout on the Millwood field. Coach Ron Lowery Jsg Coach Carl Kellehan This page sponsored by COACH RON LOWERY. Malcom Platt. Duane Washington, Jim Cunningham sparks the Falcon infield. 28 Fundamentals Are Still the Key The Millwood Falcon Baseball team began its first season March 3, and went on to play 22 games, 12 of them away. The 20 man team practiced on the Millwood diamond every afternoon under the supervision of Coach Ron Lowery. Head Coach Lowery said, “I think the teams strongest point is their great attitude.” Assistant Coach Kellehan was quick to agree. Being in shape and hanging on to the hot grounder are still the most important parts of the game.” com- mented Coach Kellehan. Rigorous workouts left the team well prepared for a tough schedule. Coach Robinson and student teacher assistant Coach Ray Price felt that experience would bring the field events up to a high standard in the coming years. Working out on the Millwood field the team spent their spring afternoons developing muscle and mind for the grueling events that have made track and field the oldest sport on record.
