Track Team FRONT ROW Bll Baker, Jeffry Derrickson, Eddie Messick, Donald Jones. BACK ROW: Mr. Gladden, Coach Alton Scott Tom Moore, Howard Hudson, Ronald Wootten. The 1959 Track Team made an exceptionally fine showing in the newly formed Henlopen Conference by finishing second in the standings. Bill Baker, half miler, set a new conference and state record by running the half mile in two minutes and twelve seconds at the Harrington meet. He also won the half mile event at Milford, while Eddie Messick finished seventh. Howard Hudson, running in the quarter mile event, finished third at Harrington and fifth at Milford, Ronald Wootten made a real fine showing in the 100 and 220 yard dashes by taking second and first place respectively. At Milford he took second in the hundred yard dash and second in the 220 yard dashL At Seaford he took second in the hundred and third in the 222 yard dash. The 440 yard relay team composed of Ronald Wootten, Tom Moore, Jeff Der- rickson, and Alton Scott, took first place at the Harrington meet. Jeff Derrickson, who ran in J.V. competition in the 100 and 220 yard dashes, took first in both the 100 and 220 yard dashes at Milford. This is an exceptionally fine record for the track' team and with every member a candidate for this year's squad, the prospects look even better for 1960.

BACK ROW: Ronnie Wootten, Mr. Lingo, Mr. Klotz, Mr Jefferson, Chairman, Mr. Burton. The rehabilitation of the athletic program, armed at making Nl.H.S. a maior conference contender in all sports, has been the primary goal of the Athletic Coun- cil this year. A tremendous sum of money has been allocated to provide the best in the way of equipment and uniforms for the various squads. Extension of the intramural program to provide an effective training ground for various sports has been instituted. Wrestling was added as an additional win- ter sport. Plans for the use of the nevv school athletic field and revamping of present athletic facilities are under consideration as the yearbook goes to press. Representing the faculty, coaches, Board, community, student body and ad- ministration, the Athletic Council is more and more becoming the guarding body in improving athletic conditions at M.H.S. 94
