H5W, With the inauguration of President M. L. Smith, a new chapter was begun in the history of Millsaps College. As we turn the first page of the new chapter, it is natural that we also look back at the yellowed but still splendid pages of the first chapter, begun almost fifty years ago, in the days when buggies and bicycles-built-for-two sped up muddy State Street to bring a handful of students to the new school. Styles and customs have changed, but the ideals and high standards of those first years are still respected. To pay tribute to those teachers and students who made those early days memorable, and to symbolize the linking of the traditions of the past and the aspirations of the future in the building of a Greater Millsaps, we have chosen as the theme for the 1939 Bobashela the date of founding of Millsaps College-- 1892.
