Dedication Fritz Berens, conductor of the Sacremento Symphony Orchestra, raised his baton and the new gymnasium began to swell with rich, mellow strains of the music of long-ago composers .... but to the teachers and students who sat wrapped in the memories of the years that had brought us to this moment of dedication, an undercurrent of a stronger, more compelling kind of music began to creep in and mingle with the overture. It was a restless , vigorous, jarring kind of music, beginning with the low, insistent complaint of a bulldozer joined by the steady grind of a cement mixer. Slowly the high-pitched wail of a power saw and the spit and hiss of acetylene torches blended into the wild, strange music ...... The music told of a growing California, of a mush- rooming community, of dedicated teachers, and thousands of young people with a thirst of knowledge. This was the Mills Iunior High Overture. May the music we compose in this new building provide the key to the future and enrich the lives of every student who passes through her halls. rx ua Presentation In accepting from architect,William Koblie, the keys to the finished building, Richard Rumsey, Student Body President, recalls the days when the roof for physical education classes was the open sky and a flapping tent was the dres- sing room. Smiling Keith Iacob, Mills Iunior High School Principal, is no doubt remembering the time when he and his office staff supervised school affairs from a smallhouse trailer parked in front of six classrooms. PTA mothers serve as hostesses to the large throng of parents and friends at- tending the dedication. nik 3 I ii-,, :if 7. Q11 ,, 'Mindy' ,ii . -l1ZlM'w a
