We Are the Future The Peninsula League Conference which each semester brings together Peninsula high school student leaders met on March 26 at Mills High School. The theme, We Are the Future suggests the focus of the conference exploring ways in which the initiative and plans of today will be mirrored in the accom plishments of tomorrow. The general chair men for the conference were Leslie Meyers and Ralph Benson: the seven committees were directed by the following: Trish Nielson, re ceptiong Meredith Keyes and Sharon Dietel decoration: Bob Buscho and Mike McNamara assembly, Pat lrber, art: Ian Connor, public ity: Lynn Musso, luncheon, Tyler Wilson and Vicki Danning, program. Attending as dele- gates from Mills, representatives gained ex perience and valuable insight which can be applied to the next school year. I4 Government All candidates for student body off fices at Mills High School must corn- plete a preleadership course dealing with parliamentary procedure and the framework of the Mills Constitu- tion. After the preleadership class members have completed the course and successfully passed the qualify- inq test, they confer with the present holder of the office in which they are interested. This officer acquaints the candidates with the specific problems and duties of the office. After this thorf ouqh orientation in student qovern- ment and the duties of a specific stu- dent office, elected winners are well qualified for their responsibilities as student representatives. l'

Office Workers Teresa Padovano, Tyler Wilson, and Tom Barbee have had the opportunity during the school year to gain on the iob experience by working as secretaries and switchboard operators. Other students in the Business Department ained first hand experience at iobs in the Main Office, Counseling Office, Department Off fices and the Attendance Office. Radio Crew Doug Dawson, Iudy Connor, Ralph Benson, advisor Mr. George Short, and Pat King are pictured Ln the broadcasting station from which the daily news and schedule of events were brought to the students under the call letters of KVIK. a non-profit student run or, ganization designed to serve the school through better communication and to provide practical experience for students in public speaking. Announcing teams were changed every six weeks to provide an oppor- tunity for each student to speak. In the reorganization of student government, these students were chosen by the first semester financial control board which consisted of the class treasurers, student body treasurer, and stu- dent body assistant treasurer. The newly formulated financial control board regulates all financial matters dealing with the student body by considering and approving or disallowing all fund-raising proiects of the school.
