Presidents ,Message To receive a degree from Mills in l965 has Special meaning. This has been a year with many outcroppings of exciting intellectual and creative adventure. ln part, these outcroppings have been caused by dis- tinguished visitors to our campus. ln larger measure, they are the product of our own curiosity, our deeper probing for new meaning in almost every facet of the world around us. We have also learned this year to see with fresh awareness and appreciation the principles and standards upon which our College community rests. At a time when restlessness pervades our society and our colleges and universities, we at Mills have found it possible to share a profound concern for human well-being wherever that well-being is at issue, whether within our own college community, or in the larger world of which we are a part. We have learned to treat critically whatever complacencies we may harbor about ourselves and our world. We have gained deeper insight into the close relationship between learning and living. Yet we have managed to keep our perspectives and our sense of responsibility. We have maintained a sense of humor concerning ourselves, our College and the world. We have discovered that all three are to be taken seriously, but that seriousness must be lightened with the laughter of understanding.
