Georgeanna. Diane. Robin. Celeste and Mrs. D. have always been there when we needed them. Many of us have spent the majority of our free time in the PPS wing of the offices getting help, visiting and munching their delicious candy. We would like to thank them for making our senior year a little more special than it already was. Thank-you. The Class of 1988 Celeste Hankey Janet Dunphy 2 Robin Slattory Diane Lowd A FOND FAREWELL Francis Flanagan was a tree of knowledge. This tree was made of Latin roots, Classical myths and English grammar. Flan made every effort to plant a seedling of creativity into every young writer's mind. We wish Mr. Flanagan good luck in Prince Edward Island. For twelve years, Albert Andrews taught students that they could be creative in a different way; teaching that it can be very reward- ing to work with your hands. The school will miss Mr. Andrews and all the carpentry help he has given over the years; many plays and shows could not have gone on without his help. We wish Mr. Andrews good luck with his future plans. 3 4 rtdtnt nistmttorij? 4, J acnltcf Settlors -pjo Underclassmen 5)30 CluTrS y ,3£ 5 SUPERINTENDENT TO THE GRADUATES 1988: You forfeit your chances for life at its fullest when you withhold your best effort in learning. When you give only the minimum to life, you receive only the minimum in return. When you work to your full capacity, you can hope to attain the knowledge and skills that will enable you to create your future and control your destiny. Take hold of your life, apply your gifts and talents, work with dedication and self-discipline. Have high expectations for yourself and convert every challenge into an opportunity. I urge each of you be open to change, be open to new ideas, and during the years ahead don't be afraid to change your per- sonal goals. Go out of your way to meet people who will inspire you to greater achievements. Let me express my sincere congratulations to each of you for a job well done. It is my wholehearted hope that: you will always be proud of your school and the community in which you live, and that you maintain your interest in Millis High School and re- main loyal to your classmates as you seek a life filled with happi- ness and success. Sincerely yours. Vahan J. Khachadoorian Superintendent of Schools Vahan J. Khachadoorian 1988 SCHOOL COMMITTEE Edna Neville — Chairperson Walter Alessi Robert Healy Sheryl Lajoie Daniel Connelly a Secrotarios (l-r): J. Houghton. B. Oschman. M. Cote. PRINCIPAL To the Class of 1988: Education forms the common mind; just as the twig is bent, the tree is inclined. These words by Alexander Pope aptly describe what we have attempted to accomplish these past four years. As the quote suggests, this is not an end but merely a segment in a continuum which spans a lifetime. It is our sincere wish that we have provided you the skills, experience and direction to fulfill your inclinations, and in doing so. you will achieve the personal and professional well-being that accompanies real success. Congratulations to each of you upon graduation and may your future be filled with promise and the determination to translate this promise into a better life for yourselves and those whom you serve. Sincerely. Paul A. Brunelle Paul A. Brunelle 7 Secretaries (l-r): G. Faessler. J. Dunphy, R. Slattery. C. Hankey. D. There were six upperclassmen on the whole team, the rest of the team was made up of under- classmen who had either little or no experience on a varsity team. Practice was one of the few things that carried us through the season. Some unforgettable memories were: Chumley's karate kick. Ryan's goal keeping, extra laps, triangles, volley kicks. Hoppa steps. Top Gun singing, warmups with Ryan, bus rides home, and the Bellingham win. The snow game with the girls and dinner after is one time we'll never forget. Thank God for a coach with a sense of humor, our team was bad. just bad enough to be funny. Most of these memories will only be shared by the team and their loyal fans. All in all it was a fun year. Thanks. 43 VARSITY BACK ROW (l-r): S. Murphy. A. Jones. J. Mertz. M. Simcock. A. Rich. J. Bourgelas. K. Kmq. B. Fraser. Coach Bourgelas. C. Matukaitis. J. McGrath. ► McGrath, J. Ritterbusch. I. As a first year Varsity team, the season began and we played competitively against all the teams in the league. One of the most mem- orable games was losing to Westwood by a bad referee call. The soccer ball went through the side of the net instead of through the front and we lost 0-1 in the last 30 seconds of the game. Another good game was playing Med- way on a rocky field when suddenly a lighten- ing storm arouse in the last 20 minutes caus- ing a delay of the game. Our best memory was ending the season with a win over Norton! Overall it was a great year and Millis Soccer can only improve with their winning attitude and of course Millis Pride. 44 JUNIOR VARSITY BACK ROW (l-r): E. Smith. K. Kerivan. J. Gillis. A. Rich. K. The Medfield games were quite intense with much athletic competition between the teams. Lisa John- son's spiking ability blew away some teams such as Holnston and Bellingham. Lisa won the Most Improved Player Award; Karalyn Walsh and Co-captains Robyn Kaplan and Jackie Champagne were picked to play in the League All-star game. Karalyn played excep- tionally well. The five seniors wished it had been a better season to end with but they had fun anyway, and wish the team Good Luck. VARSITY BACK ROW (l r): K. Walsh. S. Petorson. S. Gilmartin. J. Andrey. The teams record was 3 wins and 7 losses, but the team showed strength as each win was a shut out. The game that made the season was the Thanksgiving Day shut out of Medway with a final score of 15-0. The varsity was made up of many seniors who will def- initely be missed by the underclassmen taking their places. Rob Flaherty was voted MVP by the team. They were all dressed up In their caps and gowns. The girls were all smiling The bovs had no frownes. They walked down the rows And stepped up the stairs. Then strolled to their seats And said a few prayers. They anxiously awaited Their names to be read. While thoughts of the future Ran through their heads. The ceremony was over And they all filed out. All dancing and screaming And many did shout. But then thoughts of Millis Came back to their heads. All good things that have happened. The times not hard to find. And then one senior realized. That Millis wasn't through. She ran and told her classmates There were things they must do. She rattled off duties To her left and right. They all ran half crazy For they've just begun their fight. She told them all to live In their own style and way. And Millis will always be there To visit some day. As the lights all went out And the seniors went to bed. Most of all I am going to miss my good friends v ho have given me the support l r.av needed. Thanks to my family, including Fred and Mark. I love you ail and I wi treasur the good times. Reverend Clergy. Members of the School Committee. Mr. Khachadoorian. Mr Brunelle, faculty, parents, relatives, friends, and especially members of the Class o‘ 86 — tonight is the night! Tonight each graduate receives his or her diploma acknowledg ing the completion of four years of high school. This diploma does not simply signify c graduation from academics but also a graduation from an era of personal growth arx enrichment. Up until now. we. the Class of '88 have felt secure knowing that no majo change would upset our lives, that Millis High School would be here for us yet anothe year. However, this year, that is not the case. Our thirteen years together are coming tc a close and we must not forget these years but instead use them as a foundation fo what is to come. This night is a culmination of many years of hard work, not only by the students but bj all of the faculty as well. Never enough credit is given to our elementary teachers whc have instilled in us the very basic requirements that are essential to everyday fife. They have turned those funny looking letters on a page into expressions full of meaning They have also taught us that two is more than one and more is. many times, bette! than less, such as with friends and loves ones. Then our high school educators have taken these years of fundamental instruction and put them to the test by applying these concepts to original thoughts and ideas. For these contributions to the journey ahead o us. we thank you. Thank you Millis High, teachers, friends, and staff for all that you have given me and my classmates. Our memories here wfl endure forever. So as not to delay the rest of the night's exciting events any longer. I would like to express my deepest appreciation and love to my parents and my sister who have ultimately enabled me to stand up here on this podium tonight. For without their encouragement, support, and senses of humor. I would not have been able to make it. Finally. I would like to say good luck to the Class of 1988 and best wishes for a happy, healthy and successful life. Thank you.
