'W DEDICATION The Class of 1986 takes pleasure in dedicating our yearbook to Mr. Bill Dooling. Mr. Dooling has been more than just a teacher and advisor. He has been a friend to all of us. He was always there with an ear to lend or a helping hand. We have been fortunate to know such a caring teacher whom we greatly respect. Thank you, Mr. Dooling! Millis Public Library aw i o ew Auburn Road Millis, Mass. 02054 3 SUPERINTENDENT Mr. Vahan J. Khachadoorian To the Graduates of 1986: Man has accomplished much since he first appeared on earth. He has met the challenge of war many times. He has tasted the sweetness of victory and the bitter disappointment of defeat. Although man has met the challenge of war. he has yet to meet the challenge of peace successfully. This is just one of the many opportunities that has been left to your generation. This is part of the best work that has not yet been done. Another challenge faces your generation. The challenge of space. What will man do with his knowledge of space? Will he build space weapons with which to conquer or enslave other men? Will he build orbiting space stations with bombs on them, which could destroy an entire civilization? Or. will man take his knowledge and use it to develop things to benefit mankind? Will he look for new minerals and elements which might be used in the treatment of dis- ease? Will he search for new sources of energy? Only the years ahead will tell how mankind is meeting the challenge of the space age. What do the years ahead hold for each of you? For one thing, they hold excitement. The excitement of searching for truth and of looking for answers to our many questions. They hold satisfaction that will come when you know that you have completed a task, and that it was well done. They hold the thrill of competition and the promise of inner growth and strength as you learn to meet disappointment as well as success. It is my hope, that your education at Millis High School will help you to grasp opportu- nities with a firm hold. It is my hope that the world will be better, in some small way. because you were in it. I wish for each of you. happiness, security and peace in The Years Ahead. Sincerely yours. Vahan J. Khachadoorian Mrs. D. Beach, Mrs. B. Oschman. Mrs. D. Saccoman SCHOOL COMMITTEE Back Row (l-r): P. McMahon. R. Healy. C. Devlin. Front Row (l-r): V. Khachadoorian. E. Neville. W. Alessi. 4 PRINCIPAL To the Class of 1986: Congratulations to each of you on having successfully completed this phase of your educational pursuits. You have been a truly unique class each with your own as well as collective personality. Each of you has made your impression be it academic, athletic, public or private: you have left an indelible mark upon this school. As a class, you have probably done more to create a feeling of togetherness than any class I can remember. You have worked closely with your parents, the community, your teachers, and the administration to exemplify the respectable qualities that are not generally identified with the perception of teenagers on the whole. I can honestly say that it has been a pleasure to work with you and that you have left me with many pleasant memories of the way adolescents will conduct themselves given the opportunity and expectations. My wishes go with you in the hopes that your future aspirations are attained and your successes bring satisfaction not only to you but also to those who surround you. Sincerely. Paul A. Many students cooked and served with help from volunteers; you’ll notice Mr. Brunelle with a chef's hat on. The parade followed breakfast; it con- sisted of the cheerleaders, the band, and of course, the nominees in Corvettes. The game began and when half-time came, the band did a great half-time show followed by the crowning of the Home- coming Queen: Congratulations Lynda! 74 75 HALLOWEEN The Blues Sisters Jen. on a bad morning. Class Day was held indoors this year; but as we entered, the gym had been transformed! Pruett began by welcoming everyone and then introduced Beth. Lynda, and Tracey who took us back through the last 13 years in school. Kelty, Lisa, and Cori then read our will; they were followed by Berna. Ann-Sofie, and Keiko who shared their thoughts of the past year in Millis. Finally we were treated to a look into our future with the class prophecy which was read by Chris, Amy. Amy, and Diann. 99 GRADUATION 100 101 The night of graduation was a hot and damp one; we were inside again as the weather did not go our way. But nothing could put a damper on our spirits! Many scholarships and awards were given out and we enjoyed hearing the speeches of Jim and Amy. The most important part of the evening was saved for the presenta- tion of our diplomas! We are no longer seniors — we are GRADUATES! 102 103 VALEDICTORIAN Jim Waclawik SALUTATORIAN Amy Condon I wish to leave a few thoughts for the future on this exciting day of graduation. When we first started high school four years ago, as Freshman, the seed of adulthood was planted within us. As the days, weeks, months, and years went on, the seeds sprouted and grew. They were watered and nurtured by our parents, relatives, teachers, coaches, advisors and friends. The sun of encouragement shone on these seedlings and made them grow. Now. after four years, the seeds have become trees, representing our adulthood. Like a tree, our paths will branch out after high school, as we choose the directions of our future lives. Some will continue their studies, formally, at a university. Some have the opportunity for an early start in their vocations, and some will begin a rewarding career in the military. It is a natural stage of life, to move apart, just as a tree's branches spread out so that all of the leaves can receive sunlight. Graduation is not an end, but a transition from one stage of life to another. We should rejoice; we have so much potential. Like the magnificent sequoia tree, each of us should stand at full stature; live up to our poten- tials. Forty-two years from now, we will look back on our lives and trace our roots back to Millis High School, but as always we will be looking ahead, reaching for the sun, reaching for our dreams. Pursue your dreams! Life takes on new meaning when you strive for your dreams and ideals. No matter how silly or simple your dream may seem to others, remember that they are your dreams, and no one can take your dreams away from you. Don’t be afraid to question, to make waves. Some famous trouble makers include Galileo and our country's Abraham Lincoln. Stand your ground firm and tall, like an oak. I would like to thank every person who touched my life and made it possible for me to be here today, but first and foremost I wish to recognize Mr. Stanley Michael Waclawik and Mrs. Vivian Marie Waclawik for nurturing me from infancy through adult- hood. I owe it ail to them. I would like to thank my teachers, who challenged me and showed me that there was more to learning than just books. I wish to thank my family, Jennifer and my friends, who gave me their love and support throughout the year. Thank you for your attention. Good night. Welcome. I will make my talk with you brief, as I realize there is much to follow. Writing this speech was one of the most difficult things I have ever been asked to do. I spent hours trying to think of something profound to tell you. I found that I have no glowing words of wisdom or special messages to relay to my classmates. I can only say some words that have been said before but bear repeating. Always be the best you can be and do the best you can do. In order to truly like yourself, you must never sacrifice morals or standards on any task which bears meaning to you. It is essential to always be true to yourself. Don't ever give up. To get the things you want in life you must be confident, hardwork- ing and proud. Perseverance is a must. Throughout your lives, always remember to appreciate those who love you. The success you achieve means nothing unless you have someone to share it with. These last words of advice, I know, are simple but heart felt. I wish each one of you the best of luck and happi- ness with whatever you choose to do. Youn are all very special people. The last thing I would like to say is a very special thank you to our parents. For always being there with love and support and making our last year at Millis High School so special, thank you. 104 Best Wishes to the Class of 1986 Thanks for the Pleasant memories — Enjoy life Best of wishes.
