To The Class of 1982: I congratulate each and even.- one of you on your successful completion of this phase of your educa- tion. A high school diploma, although noteworthy, is only a beginning. It reflects an achievement of those skills necessary to pursue further academic or vocational accomplishments. Not always does it re- flect the qualities needed for future success. Qual- ities such as desire, hard work, perseverance and a willingness to devote the same energies to those tasks which are less appealing as you would to the tasks which you delight in accomplishing are ex- tremely important and will earn. you far in this world. The demands for specialized training today in the tech- nology field are so strong that the very existence of a liberal education is in jeopardy. Whether one enters the world of higher education or the work force, one must be ever mindful of the qualities of a liberal education which our society must have. At the very foundation of any education is the ability to read, write, speak, and compute effectively. 1 am confident that you have received that foundation in the Millis Public Schools.
