Kris Walsh Assistant Editor A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU We'd like to utilize this space to give our sincerest thanks to Mrs. Cindy Hunt. Without her dedication and support, there would have been no yearbook this year. Cindy was always be- hind us 100%: cheering us nn. keeping us going when we were discouraged, and jumping in to lend a helping hand when ever we needed her to. which was quite frequently. She has been much more than a yearbook advisor, she has been a friend, tried and true. We thank you whole-heartedly. Cindy, we couldn't have done it without you!!! Mrs. Cindy Hunt Yearbook Advisor DEDICATION This year’s yearbook is dedicated to a teacher who teaches with his heart as well as his mind. William Dooling treats each of his students like mature human beings with their own unique abilities, problems, and personalities. Thus, he is not forced to demand respect, he earns it. His compassion and altruism seem to be limitless and he has done something to help each of us in some way. He does not merely talk; he speaks knowingly. He does not merely hear: he listens in- tently. Mr. Dooling is a teacher we the class of 1982 will not soon forget. He is most deserving of our admiration and deep-felt gratitude. Thank you. Mr. Dooling. APPRECIATION Mrs. Russ and Miss Galvin stepped in when we needed them most. They both saved us from what would have been a hopelessly uneventful senior year. More importantly. Mrs. Russ and Miss Galvin always gave the impression that they wanted us to have fun and enjoy our last year at Millis High. They put up with a lot of bickering and we'd like them to know that in spite of our frequent complaining, we sincerely do appreciate their time, effort, concern, and understanding. Mrs. Russ. Miss Galvin. Thanks!! We'll miss you both. SUPERINTENDENT AND SCHOOL COMMITTEE TO THE CLASS OF 1982: Much is being written today about the issue of a vocation- a) technical education vs. a general libera I education. The demands for specialized training today in the tech- nology field are so strong that the very existence of a liberal education is in jeopardy. Whether one enters the world of higher education or the work force, one must be ever mindful of the qualities of a liberal education which our society must have. At the very foundation of any education is the ability to read, write, speak, and compute effectively. 1 am confident that you have received that foundation in the Millis Public Schools. Use it to the best of your ability, because the knowledge you have gained is essential for resolving life's problems. Mv best wishes are extended to each of you for a happy, successful future. Sincerely yours. William A. Vellante Superintendent of Schools MILLIS HIGH SCHOOL MILLIS. MASSACHUSETTS 02054 l. to R Front Row: R. Healy. Secretary: W. Alessi. Chairman: Standing: D. Mundy; E. Neville: I. Arsenault To The Class of 1982: I congratulate each and even.- one of you on your successful completion of this phase of your educa- tion. A high school diploma, although noteworthy, is only a beginning. It reflects an achievement of those skills necessary to pursue further academic or vocational accomplishments. Not always does it re- flect the qualities needed for future success. Qual- ities such as desire, hard work, perseverance and a willingness to devote the same energies to those tasks which are less appealing as you would to the tasks which you delight in accomplishing are ex- tremely important and will earn. you far in this world. My best wishes go with you for a successful and happy future and may education always remain foremost in your mind as you continue to develop the talents to meet vour individual successes. Sincerelv. PAUL A. BRUNELLE Principal To The Class of 1982: Every graduating class possesses a unique quality that is inherent to that particular class. This quality is expressed both collectively and individually. The Class of 1982 has expressed the qualities of sincerity, cooperation and dedication of purpose. Upon receiving your diploma, it is my sincerest wish that each of you will carry forth fond memories of your years at Millis High School. Sincerelv. JOSEPH . Faculty. Family and Friends — WELCOME EVERYONE, As Salutatorian. I have the honor to welcome you who are here today to help us celebrate this auspicious occasion. I do this with a warm and open heart, My purpose in giving this address is to raise the awareness of a serious choice that each one of us here must make with the beginning of each new day. Being aware of this choice will give each one of us a headstart to success. Relating this to one of my favorite activities, sports, wo can either be a Player or a Spectator. As Spectators standing on the sidelines we eliminate the risk, but also the fun. the growing and the excitement that life has to offer. Be a PLAYER! Don't let life just happen. Be a part of it! Take CHARGE. In the end you benefit yourselves as well as the rest of the world. A sample from Buddha's teachings exemplifies this well: Your actions will be returned — GOOD WITH GOOD. BAD WITH BAD. It’s your decision. Hopefully you'll decide to become a Player. And as a Player there will be weak moments when you'll want to just throw your hands up and say. Is it worth it? When we think of such possibilities as nuclear war and a drying-up Social Security System, it’s not always easy to be strong. But with desire and determination it's very possible. With the knowledge that the world is a reflection of ourselves, we must become even more determined to lx participating and enthusiastic Players, maintenant! I'd like to take a moment to thank a special person who represents my idea of a Player. He's been my friend, my teacher, my staunchest supporter, and the best listener I know. Even when I was overcome with Senloritis a few months ago. I knew he'd still believe in me. The caring and communication that went into each oneof his classes shows in the appreciation of all his students. There’s so much more 1 could say. but 1 know how easily true Irishmen turn red so. Mr. Dooling. Thank You. Also, as it is not everyday that I am able to publicly thank my parents. I would like to do so on behalf of my brothers, my sister and myself. The patience, guidance, and many inspirations you've given us make you deserving of the sincerest gratitude that each one of us hold for you both. Thank you. Mom and Dad. With my purpose hopefully fulfilled. I would like to leave vou with this thought Be happy, be involved, work hard, love and be loved — make every moment important! And in spite of the busy roads we all must follow — Take time to smell the flowers along the way . .. Linda Booth VALEDICTORIAN Patricia Diggins This planet is in trouble. Some may choose to ignore this fact and remain I secure and content but unified action is required if our existance is ever to I be truly secure. The first obstacle to be overcome is apathy. Helen Keller once said. I Science may have found a cure for most evils but it has found no remedy for the worst of them all. the apathy of human beings. This afflication of apathy has obvious symptoms such as the frequent occurence of onlookers who will watch a crime being committed but not help the victim. Equally as injurious are the most subtle symptoms manifested in people’s attitudes concerning broader issues. People feel powerless. They consider themselves one small person in a very large world and all they should concern themselves with are their problems. This attitude has contributed to the continued existance of many of the attrocities in the world today. High on this list of attrocities is the threat of nuclear war. The simple fact that man can now destroy the entire earth with the maximum amount of suffering should be enough to convince any rational human that this must • be stopped, but nuclear proliferation continues. This is one issue however, whose dreadful magnitude has shattered the contentment of many and caused them to rise above their apathy. So many are making themselves heard that there have been major steps taken by the Government towards finding a solution. This demonstrates how very important each individual can be. Many other issues require this sort of attention from the American peo- ple We have lost many of our gains in the fight to save the environment. People are suffering because cuts have been made in programs that help people in order to fund weapons which do nothing but kill and of immedi- ate concern to many here are the cuts in student aid. Hopefully as this class leaves the protected microcosm of high school we will become more aware of the dire circumstances surrounding us and take on some responsibility of seeking solutions to these formidible maladies, j As lohn F, Kennedy said. Our problems are man made, therefore they j may be solved by man. and man can be as big as he wants. No problem of ! human destiny is beyond human beings. 110 AFSSTUDENT Reverend Clergy. Members of the School Committee. Mr. Vellunte, Mr. Brunelle. Mr. Arcudi. Faculty. Parents. Relatives and Friends. 1 can not believe that my year in Millis is almost over. 1 guess that like everything I enjoy, my stay here went really fast, and here 1 am now. without even realizing that, in three weeks. I will be leaving Millis to go back to Spain. It was about ten months ago. two days before 1 was going to take the airplane to the United States, when the AFS president in Spain called me to tell me that 1 was going to a small town, somewhere in Massachusetts. The first thing that came to my mind back then, was a little 1 learned about the Pilgrims in school, a lot I heard about the Kennedys, something about Boston, and nothing at all about a little town called Millis. Initially 1 was disappointed because I couldn’t even find Millis on the map. Well, 1 don’t feel that bad now that I know that not many people in Massachusetts know where Millis is. I also know now that, that little point on the map has become a big part of my experience: especially since it helped me to realize that people are the same no matter where you go: — Students worry about their grades and who is having the next party. — Parents worry about their grades and who is having the next party. This has been a great year; a year that won't be easy to forget thanks to the special dedication of many people who made it possible, people such as Mr. Brunelle and each and every one of my teachers and coaches, who taught me much more than English. Calculus. Basketball or Volleyball. 1 want to thank too. the Russos, the Mennes. all my friends, and especially Lau and Maryann; not only because I spent with them the best time of my stay in Millis. but because they gave me the support I needed when I was going through difficult times. Finally. I just want to finish quoting a person who has become very special to me during this year, and who some days ago. gave me the perfect way to say goodbye: Just think of my leaving as a long vacation, from which, you can expect me back soon. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. 117 GRADUATION 118 119 120 121 L - We, the class of 1982 of Millis High School are pleased to share with you our very special class history G — It all started 13 years ago in kindergarten when RANDY BUR- STYN wouldn't drink plain milk, so every day when we had our milk she had to put coffee flavored syrup in it. One day the cap came off and it spilled alt over her. I. - TR1CIA MI.MARTIN had a horrifying experience when on the way home from the bus stop, a bully stepped on her Little Kiddle lunch box and sent her crying home. G — This brings us to the big production of wake up Santa Claus. BETH WHITE had her theatrical debut as a rooster in this play I. — The big thrill of the day was finding a four leaf clover. Many of us honest students were so hungry for victory, we used to tape on an extra leaf just to get a tootsie roll. G— In second grade WAYNE DEVENS started his never ending chase of girls by trying to get all the girls into the closet for a quarter. L — TED CANNON also had a way with the young girls. He had a birthday party consisting of 10 girls and 3 boys! G - TIM GRAHAM didn't have such good luck, he used to cry when his pencils were stolen. This year also brought us all up on stage in a Thanksgiving play. I. — Mrs. Levassour's third grade class made a book containing each one of our future careers. I wonder if PETER WORKS will lx that desired truck driver. ULASS HISTORY class. I guess David -- If at first you don't succeed try. try again. L— Sixth grade's heart-throb KIRK MAHAR disappointed a lot of girls when he picked RITA CONGDON over all of us. G — During our Sixth grado play I sincerely Doubt This Old House is Haunted . SHARON BARRETT and |OE D'ERAMO had their first kiss on stage. I.— During practices LINDA BOOTH was found in the closet with BRIAN SULLIVAN by someone who was looking for props for the play. G — This is the year LORI LAMBIRTH first got her name Limbi, by a teacher who had a funny walk and called his son the kid . L— Seventh grade was the beginning of boy-girl parties. BETH WHITE was the holder of many of these. At one party IEAN LAGOS and GORDY ANGEL were wondering what to do after 1. 2. 3! G — KRIS SYCAMORE had the end of the year bash which found PETER MURPHY PAM GREEN walking in the field together, while many others were playing spin the bottle including TODD GOVE. KENNY SACCOMAN. G - During the |umor National Honor Society induction cere- monies. 1.1 . GRACEFUL GITT1NS fell down from the stands taking her chair with her. I. - This year was the start of AMY REGER'S annual summer tent parties. Her first one was a memorable one when some certain girls were spotted flying up the hill. G CAROLYN FREESE will always be remembered for the many times she was kicked out of Ms. Francer’s chorus. I. In nineth grade in Mrs. Morrill's advanced biology class. JEAN- NE TRAVERS attempted the daring feat of picking up a pen while still seated. She then gracefully took the desk and her books down with her. G - In tenth grade KRIS HOURIGAN caused some trouble by get- ting kicked out of Mrs. Rainer's Spanish class. In eleventh grade we had some newcomers LISA O'CONNELL and CHUCK ILSLEY. G - It was this year also when RHEE BOSSE found a way to keep cute little BRUCE HECKMAN in his seat. Rhee spilled a whole bottle of Elmers Glue on Bruce's seat. L — In fourth grade one day when the class was building a lerrer- ium. someone put a frog on SHARON BARRETT'S chair, know- ing she hated them more than anything. HOI.LI BOLZANI still has the bruises to prove the abuse she used to get from RICHARD GILBERT L PAULA alias crash DOUGANS earned her name while driv- ing through the center of town with a car load of friends. Well Paula, that was only your first week of driving, what will happen next?? G - Our Junior Talent Show was a success with New York. New York the smash hit . I. and we'll always remember the fun we had messing up!!!!! G — AMY REGER and LAURIE ROBINSON were often found draw- ing creative pictures of the human anatomy. L — Fifth grade started the seven year partnership of GREGG AN- DON1AN and GORDY ANGEL playing with each other in the backfield. G - - KRIS WALSH was so nervous when she was asked out for the first lime — she cried. This did not seem to upset DAVID MEUSE too much, he proceeded to ask out every girl in the G — Now it was time for our luninr Prom at The Hilton Hotel in Natick. The prom was really fun and the bash at PAUL ALBA- N'l'S Manomet beachhouse was even better, unaffected by the stormy weather. I guess we can't have both brains and strength — Gregg!!!! G— On the bus ride home we had some exciting events the girls tried to Fit as many people into the bathroom as possible. L — Our senior year was one of the best ones ever but there are certain qualities that don't belong to any one year: G — IOHN ST. CYR has always had a young girl on his arm. starting with LAURA VOGT. G — STEVE DONAHUE will never forget the Westwood track meet. L PAUL ZONFRELLL alias Johnny Love will forever b re- membered as the lady's man. BILL ANDREWS' and JAN SLEEP- ERS' debating will probably go on forever unless one of them comes up with something they both agree on G — Mrs. Russ' English class will never let SCOTTCOUSLAND live down the close run in that he had with a pine tree in the school drive-way. I'm getting sick and tired of dropping the babies in the wrong crater. — Oh yoh. business is really booming for you due to all those Dicky Dill Pickles that Hagop has been selling to your customers. Right Did you get a chance to see Sharon Barrett? She's a top notch opera singer. She even has her own personal hair dresser, Donna Aulenback. Sharon's favorite song to sing around Christmas time is deck the halls with Holly Bol oni. Fa la la la la la la la la. — I couldn't believe Kathy Broderick and Maureen Smith were singing along with Sahron. it must have been those cookies that Robert Clifford and Mark Sullivan brought to the reunion from their Rasta Pastry Shop. — Don't Norm I.ong and Pat Duiuett have a shop right next to it called the Norm and Pat. Pat and Norm. T-shirt shop for lovers? Norm wus telling me about that terrible day when Kenny Beyer. Scott Cousland. Bill Vaccaro. and Mike Walsh turned his front window into a drive-thru window: due most likely to the four boys' perfected driving skills. — I can't believe some of our classmates are actually making money! I mean, look at David Defanti, he's rolling in the dough. He's president of Dupont. Inc. Hey. and speaking of money. Chuckle Isley made a smart move by buying Konehead Insurance for his car from Roger Konev David Borgesen seemed to be Roger's biggest customer this year. — And look who made it big in the sport's world. It seems |oe D'Bramo made the starting team with Spacely Sprocket playing basketball. Chris Fairfield signed with the Cogswell Cogs' championship team. — Hey Kris, guess who flew in from Guadalahara. Who? — The universally famous No No's, starring I.aurie Robinson. Kim McCandless. Kris Sycamore. Cindy Cronin, and Belinda, no I mean Melinda Thomas. I heard Melinda left the group to start the trio dress shop with Rhee Bosse and Kris Walsh. And Kris Sycamore left. too. to |oin the submarine business with Rita Congdon and lanet Burnett, who are the proud owners of the Hari Kari Sub Shop. But don't ask them to make a sub for you because all they'll say is How you do that? — Storka. I think the No No's are pretty funky, but I though! the Pops' were even better, you know that new band called the Billy Andrews Brothers? They use tools instead of instruments. You should see Peter Works on the welder. Ian Sleeper is the lead singer and Ted Chisolm plays a mean chisle. — I was talking to Martha Stevens. Tricia Diggins. Lisa O'Connel and Liz Gittens who were in a corral wearing really chic Adam’s Apples leans from the famous designer Kathy Adams. The horses seemed to be enjoying the apples more than the girls. David Meuse really went into a neat occupation — cave exploring. We can see Wayne Rawding. Terri Chisolm, and Bruce Heckman digging up some strange crystals. David discovered Amy Reger making fabulous pictures on the walls of the cave. — All of Denise's years of fishing have really paid off: she really made quite a catch of perch. Marrianne Kirby and Beth White are the proud owners of the Purple Kirby Derby Club, where Val Bergen Burger and Hoi Dognazzi's are the specialty of the club. — Teddy Cannon really progressed after college; he became the host of Dance Fever . I guess his past experiences as a dangerous disco-er came in handy. David Borgeson is Ted’s co-host: Boy Dave sure can BOOGIE!! — Speaking of boogying. Peter Hunt and Lynn Coyle were the champions of Dance Fever, this week. N’o matter how much Lynn doesn’t want to get on the dance floor. Peter always finds a way to get her out there; and the funny thing is he always winds up on the injured list. — 1 guess after the dance routines on Dance Fever, all the contestants take the leanne Travers Mark Sullivan For three bills Limo. Service to the Buddy Buddy Bar owned by the four buddies: Gordon Angel. Wavne Devens. Mike Shea, and Peter Turgeon. Karen Thurston and Paula Dougans are the parking attendenls at the Buddy Buddy Bar because they’re such good buddies. But make sure they park your car in the right driveway. The buddies are throwing a wild bash for Scott Gilbert who came back for the class reunion along with Yolanda Chalmeta. We see Neil Ivory and Peter Latosek and Andy McNulty, who are the suppliers to the bash from Canada with Moosehead. — When Scott returned for the reunion, he couldn’t stay with Norman so he decided to stay at the Howard Johnson’s owned and operated by lames Michael lohnston and Paul Howard. Their specialty is their wake-up call service, performed by Darol Bishop and Clinton Keith. Where was that call 10 years ago on the 50 yard line? — Donna Dwyer and Barb Kerosky are exotic dancers at the Buddy Buddy Bar. — Surprisingly. Paul Albani made it as a public defender. He sticks up for the rights of juvenile bashes. Todd Gove. Paul’s gopher, crashed all the parties to retrieve evidence. — Linda Booth seems to be the big cheese at STRAP headquarters. She has the solution to nuclear war; using L.N.G. — Linda’s breakthrough on natural gas was the main topic on the Steve Donahue Show. Paul Zonfrelli was on that same show introducing his new candy bar: the Paulie Zonka Bar. Anna Garcia was the guest singer on that Steve Donahue Show. — I hear the Limo. arrangements for the Steve Donahue Show were made possible by the Rent a wreck Cheap Heaps, owned by liminy Do Angel is. Gary Lamberton and Torn Jessup Boy Kris. I was down the Gape last week and I saw Kris Hourigan, Crissy Manning, and Denise Thibolt w’orking as security guards at the St. Queer Club in Provincetown, owned and operated by |ohn St. Cyr. It seems every time Greenie’s Angels |Pam Green. Julie Leighton. Maureen Somers, and Randy Burstyn) conn- into town, the local cops. Trlcia kilmartin and Lisa Vanthiel. break up all the gay fun. I couldn't believe it when Tim Graham approached Dr. Manny Goes with a bad case of neck sores: Manny is an accomplished Hickeyopractor. The hot and spicy Michelle Goulden Mustard was excellent on those Duo Dela Deli sandwiches provided by Tricia and Mike Delaporta. After |oe! Ingraham marie it big at Harvard, he bought his own Dingey Club culled Ingey’s Dingeys . His first-mate is Chris Doherty. — Jane Olson certainly changer!: she took over the Folgors Crystals Commercials, after she divorced Tarzan. Jean largos. Torri Richards, and Nancy Wenger opened their own trophy shop selling tlioir own trophies. 1 think we should get a trophy for writing this. I’m hungry. Stork. Let’s get an ice cream at the Tasty Freese run by Carolyn Freese. Melissa Grant. Lori Yered and Randy Burstyn are always burstin’ with delight when you buy a cone. I thought it was neat that Lori Lambirth and Lisa Carey, the famous playwrights, came in from Broadway just before their play Rape of the Lock opened at the Gus Russ Memorial Theatre. I heard that Kenny Saccoman was trying to sell his tickets to that show for Si25.00. What a squeal!! — Well, we're almost at the moon. Thanks to Gordon Healy’s reliable EM-50, this trip has been a success. Boy I’m glad we didn't rent a Cheap Heap. BABY PICTURE KEY L to R: Mike and Tricia Delaporta. Kenny Beyer. Darol Bishop.
