For example, the combination of colors in our red, white, and blue flag stirs up many emotions of patriotism. The colors of our school have also come to symbolize ideals much like those symbolized in our flag. The school colors of black and gold over the years have become symbols of our pride in Millington Central, and, therefore, are very important when we “color ourselves Trojans.” In 1932, Miss Harris’ Latin class chose the Trojan to be the official school mascot of MCHS. In addition to the mascot, black and gold became the official school colors in 1948. Before that Trojans time, the colors of Millington were black and orange. Coach Harvey proposed a change of colors, with Mr. Osteen’s blessing, to Vanderbilt’s colors of black and gold. This idea was a good one, because even today, the same ideals of pride are represented in black and gold. Black symbolizes our school strength while gold symbolizes all the best features a school can have. Millington is known for its academic and athletic strengths, as well as for being the best in the area in some specific activities. In a school such as MCHS, where ideals and accomplishments have become one and the same, the black and gold Trojan truly represents the spirit and identity of the school. That is why we reveal our “true colors” when we color ourselves black and gold Trojans. opening
