Also Mr. Bartlett organizes an antique and custom auto show for the athletic booster club. Other contributors to the athletic program are Mr. Waits. P.J.’s, Eddie’s Feed Store which donates the pocket football schedules, and Millington Laundry which provides a most important service of cleaning the athletic uniforms. Many other supporters work in the concession stands at athletic events. Some of the contributors fit into no specific category, but are very important to the school. First, community businesses offer financial support when placing ads in play programs, football programs, yearbooks, and newspapers. Second. Mrs. H. R. Dobbins, chairperson of the Shelby County Board of Education and an alumna of MCHS, has devoted many extra hours of time to the improvement of the school. She also provided trees for the campus. Third, the City of Millington provides garbage pick-ups, a free water supply, and police protection at school and at extracurricular activities. It would surely be impossible to name every person who contributes to the school in the space we have; however, a thank you is extended to all members of the Millington area, mentioned here or not, for support given to the Trojan student body. opening 9

Color Us . . . Involved Involvement at MCHS extends beyond the student body. People in our community are involved in many of the extracurricular activities held here. Among these activities is a variety of booster clubs that support our larger groups: ROTC. Vocal Music. Band. Athletics. Fine Arts, and the PTA. These organizations are filled with concerned parents of the students; some parents serve as officers. As would be expected, the community is also involved in the academic programs at the school. The Optimist Club honors the outstanding students of MCHS. The community as a whole provides financial support for the leadership conference. Boys’ and Girls’ State, and the Close-Up programs. The community is also involved in presenting many scholarships to deserving students through several organizations: The Association of Naval Observation, the Book Chat Club, Business and Professional Women, Com- munity Day, First United Methodist Church (UMW), Fleet Reserve Auxiliary, Optimist Club, Rotary Club, Traci Leonard Scholarship Fund, VFW No. 7175, and many more. Many people support the athletic groups of this school. For example, the Rotary Club collects tickets at the home football games. Mr. Boswell prepares the field for home games, while Mr. Blair and Mr. deMarigny prepare other athletic areas. This page: Top picture: Mooney Boswell and Bobby Bartlett work on football field.
